The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 14: No Need to Apologize
Jeremy Kane forced a smile. "Vera, don’t blame Mrs. Archer for this. She’s always been blunt. I just want to ask, where did this photo come from?"
Rona Langdon sneered, "Why does it matter where the photo came from! You just need to tell us if the person in the picture is your son!"
The question left them completely speechless.
For a moment, Daisy Archer and Jeremy Kane had no idea what Wesley Kane had actually done. But ultimately, they were in the wrong, so they offered a few placating words: "This must be a misunderstanding. We’ll go back and ask him properly."
"Vera, don’t be angry. If it really is Wesley’s fault, I’ll have him come over and apologize in person."
"He still cares for you. We all like you very much and have always looked forward to you becoming our daughter-in-law."
Vera Xavier stood up and said, "Mr. Kane, Mrs. Archer, thank you for liking me. But I’m from the countryside and I’m stubborn about certain principles. My mother told me you must never marry a man of poor character. So, there’s no need for you to have Wesley Kane come and apologize..."
She took a deep breath before continuing, "This is the end for him and me!"
’Yes, whether in her past life or this one, it was over between her and Wesley Kane. From now on, they would go their separate ways. She would never waste another thought on him.’ 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Her tone was more resolute than ever. Zachary Preston said coldly, "The facts are clear. My family may be poor, but we won’t allow anyone to trample on us!"
A warmth spread through Vera Xavier’s heart when she heard him.
Daisy Archer and Jeremy Kane exchanged a look. They knew Zachary Preston was a man of his word and they wouldn’t get anywhere today. They could only force a smile and leave in disgrace.
After the two left, Jeremy Kane shot her a glare. "How do you normally manage Wesley? How could he go to that kind of place!"
"How should I know!" Daisy Archer snapped. "You’re his father and even you can’t control him. How am I supposed to!"
Jeremy Kane was seething. "I told you to speak nicely when we came over today, not to burn our bridges! I’m still waiting for Zachary Preston to approve that mining permit. Now that things have gotten this ugly, how am I supposed to bring it up with him!"
Still not satisfied, he raised his hand and slapped Daisy Archer across the face. "You ruinous woman!"
Clutching her face, her eyes red, Daisy Archer didn’t dare to talk back or retaliate. She changed the subject. "Kane, don’t you find it strange? How did Vera Xavier get her hands on that photo?"
"If your son hadn’t done something like that, she wouldn’t have the photo in the first place!" Jeremy Kane snapped. "That Vera Xavier always seemed so meek, but I never thought she’d be this insidious. She held onto the photo all this time, only to bring it out in front of everyone today. She was obviously trying to humiliate us!"
He then added viciously, "After she humiliated us like this, there’s no way we can ask Preston for help anymore. That wretched girl is nothing but trouble! I’ll have to teach her a lesson one of these days!"
After the Kane couple left, Rona Langdon’s eyes lit up. Because the Kane family needed a favor from Zachary Preston, they had offered a considerable bride price to show how much they valued Vera Xavier.
Yesterday, she thought they would have to return it, and the thought was physically painful. Now that this scene had played out, they didn’t have to return the bride price. Her opinion of Vera Xavier improved considerably, but her tone was still unkind. "You’re just a troublemaker!"
Zachary Preston said to Rona Langdon in a cold voice, "Go make breakfast."
Rona Langdon was in a good mood and, for once, was obedient. She shot Vera Xavier a glare and disappeared into the kitchen.
