The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 69: Caught Red-Handed
Grandma Dixon’s question immediately rekindled everyone’s gossipy nature.
Someone said, "Since you claim you bought the clothes, why don’t you just show everyone the invoice or receipt?"
"Yeah, yeah, show us the receipt!" 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"What a coincidence. Vera loses her clothes, and then her mom turns around wearing an identical outfit. Heh, so very coincidental!"
Rona Langdon didn’t have a good reputation in the residential compound, so as soon as they heard this theory, everyone gathered to watch the drama unfold.
Rona Langdon’s expression was furious. "Don’t you all have anything better to do? Get out, get out, get out! Get out of my house! My family’s business is none of your concern!"
With that, she started shoving people, but the more she pushed, the more they refused to leave. "Now, now, we’re all neighbors. We’re just concerned since something happened to your family!"
"Exactly! I want to know who the thief is, too!"
"That’s right! We have to catch this thief. We can’t let them be so brazen!"
Rona Langdon was about to lose her mind. If it was confirmed that she had stolen Vera Xavier’s clothes, she would be utterly humiliated. But with these people refusing to leave, there was nothing she could do.
She turned and viciously cursed at Vera Xavier. "Filing a police report over a few stupid rags? What a joke! I order you to go and withdraw the report right now! You useless thing! You’re always dead last in your class, and now you’re just making a scene over nothing!"
Vera Xavier said, wiping away tears, "Mom, they weren’t just rags. My cousin sent them from Vardenburg. The cheapest item cost several hundred, and with the shoes, it all adds up to several thousand!"
Grandma Dixon couldn’t listen anymore. "The girl’s things went missing, so she thought there was a burglar. What’s wrong with calling the police? Rona Langdon, since you can’t produce a receipt for the clothes, don’t tell me you’re the one who stole them?"
"Why would I steal her clothes?" Rona Langdon retorted stubbornly. "I bought this outfit myself. So what if I lost the receipt? You old hag, why are you always meddling in my family’s business! Get out!"
Grandma Dixon was furious. She slammed her hand on the table and said, "I don’t want to get involved in your family’s affairs! I just want to catch the thief so they don’t end up stealing from my house next!"
Seeing that the time was right, Vera Xavier said to the police, "My mom said she didn’t steal my clothes, so she definitely didn’t. But our home was definitely burglarized today. I wonder if anything was stolen from the other rooms. Mom, why don’t you go check your room and take inventory?"
"There’s no need. Nothing was stolen from the house," Rona Langdon said, panicking. "Just hurry up and withdraw the report!"
The police officer couldn’t stand by any longer and stepped forward. "When we came in, there were clear signs of a search. A case has been officially filed, so it cannot be withdrawn."
Just then, one of the onlookers somehow managed to knock open the door to Rona Langdon’s room on the second floor and shouted in amazement, "Heavens, look at all these new clothes!"
Vera Xavier turned her head and saw the "postman" who had delivered the clothes to her last time. Because she knew the items were from Nathaniel Nathan, Vera knew this man worked for him.
Her gaze deepened. ’I tampered with that door, intending to find a chance to open it and reveal what was inside. I didn’t expect the "postman" to do it for me. I give him full marks for the assist, though his shout was a little over the top.’
