The CEO's Wife Is a Medical Master-Chapter 71: Try Me
Rona Langdon’s chest heaved violently. The look she gave Vera Xavier was so full of hate it was as if she wanted to devour her whole. Yet, her tone softened. "Vera, I’m your mother. Don’t do anything foolish!"
"So now you remember you’re Vera’s mother!" Grandma Dixon said bluntly. "Why didn’t you remember you were her mother when you were stealing Vera’s things, or when you were hitting her?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Rona Langdon was cornered and left speechless.
With that, the truth of the matter was out in the open. Vera Xavier had more or less achieved her desired effect. This little incident wasn’t nearly enough to send Rona Langdon to jail.
With the groundwork laid by these two incidents, she would have the absolute upper hand in any future conflicts that erupted between her and Rona Langdon.
But she couldn’t leave the Preston Family just yet, so she still needed to play the part of an obedient daughter for the time being. She said softly, "Mom, I won’t press charges this time, but please, don’t hit me anymore, and don’t steal my things again. Can you do that?"
Rona Langdon instinctively started to argue, "I didn’t steal your things..."
She stopped mid-sentence when she saw the police officer’s cold glare. She had no choice but to back down. "You’re my daughter. I couldn’t love you enough, so how could I ever hit you?"
Because Vera Xavier wasn’t pressing charges, the matter was considered closed. The police gave Rona Langdon a stern lecture, made her return all of Vera Xavier’s belongings, and had her promise never to do anything similar again before they were finished.
Rona Langdon, who was used to throwing her weight around, was forced to return the clothes and shoes to Vera Xavier under everyone’s watchful eyes. She even had to soften her tone and apologize before the matter was truly dropped.
Only then did the crowd of onlookers in the courtyard disperse. As the "mailman" was leaving, he smiled at Vera Xavier. The secret signal had been exchanged.
As Grandma Dixon reached the door, she sighed, "How can a biological mother be like that! Vera is just so pitiful!"
In truth, this was what many people were thinking.
After the police and the onlookers left, Rona Langdon immediately shut the door, her expression instantly changing. "Vera Xavier, you’ve really grown a spine, haven’t you! You actually dared to report me? Believe it or not, I’ll beat you to death!"
With that, she grabbed the broom on the floor and swung it at Vera Xavier’s face. Vera didn’t dodge. Instead, she snatched a pair of scissors from the table, dodged the broom in Rona Langdon’s hands, and pressed the scissors directly against her neck.
Rona Langdon jumped in fright and started cursing, "Vera Xavier, you’ve got some nerve! You just try and lay a finger on me..."
The scissors in Vera Xavier’s hand poked right into Rona Langdon’s neck. Rona froze, stunned. She turned to meet Vera Xavier’s eyes. The timid girl from moments ago was gone, replaced by someone with a gaze of chilling brilliance.
Vera Xavier looked at Rona Langdon and said, "I tried. Do I need to prove further that I’m willing to hurt you?"
At her core, Rona Langdon was a bully who preyed on the weak and cowered before the strong. She truly never imagined Vera Xavier would actually dare to treat her this way.
She took a deep breath and looked at Vera Xavier. "Vera Xavier, I’m your mother!"
"I know," Vera Xavier said through gritted teeth. "But from the very first day I returned to the Preston Family, you’ve never once treated me like your daughter. If you don’t treat me like your daughter, why should I treat you like my mother?"
Rona Langdon bluffed, "If you dare to hurt me, I’ll have the police arrest you!"
