The Chef Rules the Last Days-Chapter 109 - 106: Preparing to Climb the Wall
Chapter 109: Chapter 106: Preparing to Climb the Wall
"Baozi!" Jianxiong, who was also standing outside, got excited again as he smacked his lips a few times, his mind was already fantasizing about the delicious taste with the juice splashing around as he took a bite.
Zhao Changsheng couldn’t stand it and kicked him on the butt, his fox-like eyes barely hiding his disdain, "Don’t exhaust Momo."
Su Mo’s height was a real disadvantage; even the steamers inside the overhead cabinets were out of her reach, and so was Su Niang, who was almost the same height as Su Mo, barely over five feet tall, unable to reach as well.
Seeing this, Lu Chen strode into the kitchen. His long legs got him there quickly, and he reached under Su Mo’s armpits to lift her up, "What do you need to take out?"
Su Mo was lifted up unexpectedly; the cold, large palms tightly clasping her ribs, which left her stunned for a moment.
She thought this posture seemed like something one would use only when playing with children...
At the very least... you could have held me by the waist.
Lu Chen was unaware of her myriad internal scripts, he lifted her a bit higher again, "What exactly do you need?"
"The pot... the pot," Su Mo replied with a trembling voice, hastily grabbing the steamer out.
He then put her back on the ground and turned to leave.
Su Mo stood there holding the pot in silence for a moment until Su Niang waved her hand in front of her eyes to snap her out of it.
The weather had cooled down, and the meat wasn’t breaking down easily, so she took out a bag of flour from the System Bag, a whopping fifty kilos, which she had stocked up on during her last visit to a supermarket warehouse, and it finally proved useful.
She had never made baozi nor knew how to roll the dough, so she watched how Su Niang mixed the dough.
Su Niang had just begun when she ran into a snag, "Do you have baking powder?"
Su Mo shook her head, her collected seasonings were all basic, she hadn’t delved into baking powder, "No, can we use something else to help the dough rise?"
After pondering for a while, Su Niang said, "Alcohol works, adding some white sugar to rice wine can also do the trick."
Alcohol... Su Mo summoned the panel and opened the System Bag, back when Zhao Changsheng got drunk in prison she had confiscated quite a lot of alcohol, she pushed aside the seasoning in the kitchen and took out all the alcohol.
"These, which one do you think will work?"
After rummaging through a pile of bottles, Su Niang picked out a green small bottle and then resumed her dough activity.
Su Mo was ready to learn earnestly when the cry of despair from Ling Ye came from outside their room.
"Su Niang, keep at it, I’m going to check outside," she instructed, walking out of the kitchen.
At the entrance, Jianxiong was peering through the peephole on the door: "That kid’s grandma seems to have died."
"Can you use spiritual power?" Lu Chen asked Li Qian.
He shook his head and explained, "No, acting carelessly now would expose us, and they have a Level 2 superpower user guarding them."
If he used his superpower now, it would immediately be detected and repelled unless his level was stronger, he couldn’t do much.
Zhao Changsheng leaned against the entrance, his charming eyes flicking with impatience, "If I had a say, we might as well just snatch the oil and leave."
"If only it were that simple," Su Mo replied.
Ling Ye’s cries were soon quieted. Two young men wrapped the deceased old woman in a bedsheet and carried her into the elevator, Ling Fang covered his mouth, glanced at the opposite door, and took his son into the elevator.
Soon, there was no activity outside, and Jianxiong opened the door.
Su Mo walked to the elevator, watching the numbers descend one by one, finally stopping at basement one.
"What are they taking corpses to the basement for?" Jianxiong asked, looking at the indicator light that flickered to minus one.
"The button for the minus one floor is locked, and there’s surveillance in the elevator," Lu Chen said coldly.
Su Mo had also noticed when she first entered the elevator and had seen that metal box. She frowned and asked, "What do you think is on floor minus one?"
"Nothing good, that’s for sure," Zhao Changsheng said, leaning against the door.
If they went to such lengths to cover it up, it couldn’t be anything good.
"At worst, we can take the stairwell to check it out, there it is," Jianxiong said as he pulled open the large door of the stairwell next to the elevator. As soon as he opened it, he froze.
The other side of the door wasn’t an empty corridor, but a dark gray wall that blocked the entire doorway.
"A wall?" Su Mo walked over and placed her palm on it. It was made of concrete.
Jianxiong tried pushing it, but it didn’t budge at all. "There must be solid stuff behind this," he said.
Otherwise, with the strength he and Crucian Carp brought, there was no way they wouldn’t be able to push it.
It was possible that the entire door was blocked with cement.
"Could it be they all use the elevator and have sealed off the doors?" Su Mo said.
"We are also being watched in a way," Li Qian said as he stood next to the wall. His voice was gentle, yet carried a chill. "As soon as we go out, they’ll know."
"They won’t," Lu Chen spoke up, spreading his palm. The dense thorns aligned with his gesture and stood erect, sharp and pointed. With a cold voice, he said, "Our only goal is to take the oil and leave."
Everyone understood him at once.
"We can go out tonight and search; I refuse to believe we can’t find it in such a large county town where all the oil has been collected," Su Mo said with a smile, her bright eyes glistening as she looked at Lu Chen.
"Hmm," the man gulped, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he faced her cute appearance.
They stood outside for a while longer before heading back inside the house.
That night, there was no electricity in the house. Lu Chen lit the existing candles for light. No one came to disturb them. Su Niang’s flour had risen enough, and she had rolled the dough and chopped the meat filling. Everyone except for Lu Chen and a few others gathered around the dining table, eagerly helping to make dumplings.
Su Mo had never made dumplings before. Following Su Niang step by step, hers turned out exceptionally ugly. On the other hand, Jianxiong, with his rough and dark palms, made delicate and adorable dumplings.
It was surprising that such a burly man could be so skillful with his hands.
She went to the kitchen instead, catching all the remaining shrimp from the pond and placing them in the sink. After processing the shrimp and putting them in a basin, she also fished out the remaining three Crucian Carps, cleaned them thoroughly, and returned them to the pond.
After restocking, her progress bar also receded. Half of it was held by Crucian Carp while the shrimp, though not small, were limited to 100 in the pond. Upgrading the pond would make it more worthwhile to focus on fish.
She skillfully prepared three dishes of fish and one of shrimp. The remaining potato shreds and Bok Choy were also served on five or six plates. She asked Lu Chen to store them in "Space".
Except for the items Su Niang needed outside, she packed up everything she took out from the System Bag and put them back, sweating profusely in the process.
She also felt a bit hot.
"Tired?" Lu Chen reached out and wiped the sweat from her forehead, his eyes filled with affection.
The cool touch made Su Mo pull his hand to her face to cool down.
"If I get tired this easily, how will I climb the wall later?" she teased him with a glance and a smile.
