The Countess Lives Twice in the Apocalypse-Chapter 48: Forty-seven
The child’s hands and feet suddenly went cold, chills went down his spine as he looked up to Jannah, her blood red eyes squinting with a small smile on her face.
"Tico?"
Jannah looked up from the boy to the woman who called out. The children turned their attention away from the Countess and looked behind them, jumping when a woman is standing there, her hands on her hips.
"What are you children doing here?" The woman, who Jannah healed earlier, raised an eyebrow to the kids.
She looked up, past through the door where she saw her son who was standing in front of Jannah. Her eyes widened, and rushed towards him, "Tico!"
Jannah watched the interaction with a straight face, the previous smile, smirk, and condescending look are gone.
"Are you causing trouble again? I told you to not do it! She helped me!" The mother hissed under her breath, pulling the boy’s arm and dragged him inside the mail house.
"While you’re at it." Jannah spoke up which stopped the woman from dragging her child, "Don’t let the kids out of this house. I don’t think it would be a pretty sight for them to see the mess I made."
The Countess tilted her head to the side, closing her eyes and sent the woman a smile, "Don’t let anyone out, okay?"
The look on Jannah’s face was terrifying, the smile, the words that came out of her mouth, combined with the underlying warning tone was enough for the woman to connect the dots together.
"Su.. Sure! Sure, sure, sure!" The woman stammered out nervously as she pulled kids by the collars of their dirty shirts, "We won’t go out unless you come here to fetch us yourself, my lady!"
If the woman was thinking the right thing, then what the Countess meant was she have made a mess.
A bloody mess.
She heard from her friends down in the basement that the same woman in front of her had killed their abuser in cold blood, that she appeared out of nowhere, treated her, and told the predator to guard the basement door.
No human would be able to do the things she have done unless..
Jannah opened her eyes and kept the smile on her face, "Great. If I can’t come here myself then I’ll send one of my people."
The woman nodded her head frantically and reached forward to close the door. Jannah heard the lock turn and clicked before she hummed, walk away from the mail house to go back where she made a mess.
The first person she saw was Duke Eulicies. He was picking up some severed hands and placing them on the wooden cart.
Jeriel was by the watch tower, shooting arrows on the zombies on the other side of the wall.
Kirie was holding a map, pushing it on a bucket and spinning it to get rid of the blood before pulling it out of the water and drop it on the blood stained ground.
Looks like she wasn’t kidding about cleaning the stains. Jannah thought to herself and stepped away from the crime scene to go to the town’s hall, still creeped out by what she felt when she saw the maid earlier.
She glanced at the map, observing the way the people inside the town’s hall move around.
Five red dots were stationed on the corner and several blue dots surroundings the red dots. It looked like they were straight on guarding them until she gets there.
She looked away, her eyes landing on Lucienta who was standing in front of the door, a large and happy smile on her face.
"My lady!"
The head maid called out to her, waving an arm in the air with so much enthusiasm.
Jannah smiled softly, approaching the door with quick and easy steps, nodding her head to Lucienta who stepped aside to let her through the door.
"The Countess is here!" Jeremiah announced her arrival which made the people inside the room look at her way.
The five men she left alive looked at her, their face losing their color.
"Is everyone having fun?" She asked with teasing tone and mocking smile, pointing towards the five town’s men.
"Quite so, my lady." Alejandro and Marco answered simultaneously.
She raised an eyebrow at them while the two men exchanged a bewildered glance, not expecting for them to be in sync.
"Well, it’s good that you two are getting along just fine." Jannah smiled at them before she turned to Marco as she point her finger at the town’s men, "I want these men to be dragged out in front of the mail house. Tie them against a plank with their arms spread out, will you?"
"Pardon?" Marco blinked at her.
"I left them alive for the women they locked up." Jannah brushed his confusion off with a dismissive wave of her hand, "So, I want them tied up tightly."
"Understood, my lady." Marco nodded his head and gave her a bow, "Would it be alright to bring Haile, Dreidel, and Jeremiah with me for the task?"
"Bring anyone you want. I don’t really care— oh, don’t let Duke Zacharias’s men help you, okay?" Jannah shot a discreet glance on Kean and Diazo, observing the way they clenched their fists and cast a glare on the floorboards.
"Yes, my lady." Marco answered without questioning her orders.
She watched her people walk out. Her guess is that they’ll look for planks and ropes to use for the five men beside her.
"Aran." She called out to her head chef and looked at him.
His body visibly straightened up when he got called, a smile appearing on his lips, "Yes, Countess?"
"Cook something to eat. I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday and I’m starving." Jannah placed a hand on her stomach to put emphasis in her words, "I don’t want to eat anything else other than your cooking."
Happy that the Countess complimented his skill in the kitchen, he brightened up significantly and let a grin grace his face, "Of course, my lady. I’ll start cooking right away."
"Great." Jannah smiled at him, "Make sure that it will feed at least fifty people, alright?" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
The happy expression on the man’s face changed, his grin turned upside down and the look of horror crossed his eyes, "Pardon?"
"We have twenty women and thirteen children locked up in the basement." Jannah hummed and shrugged her shoulders, "We have to feed the Duke’s people, and our people need to be fed as well."
"But, my lady—"
"I saw something that you can cook next to the blacksmith shop." Jannah cuts him off before he could utter any words of objection, "It should be good enough for all of us."
Aran opened his mouth to say something and raised a hand, but he was quick to close his lips, deciding against it.
"Understood, my lady." The head chef dejectedly accepted his fate.
Jannah chuckled at him, shaking her head. She crossed her arms, watching Aran talk to Lilo, Lucienta, Marietta, and Anthony.
They talked for a while before they simultaneously nodded their heads, walking towards the door, but then, Jannah remembered something which made her stop them from walking out.
"Oh, almost forgot." Jannah called out and made them stop in their tracks.
She pointed her finger to the five men beside her with a straight face, "Don’t cook something for these bastard, alright? They’ll die before we leave for Philipia anyways so there’s no need to cook for these scumbags."
"We’re not scumba— ack!"
The man was telling them that they are not bad, but Alejandro kicked him in the knees. They are kneeling on the floor with their arms tied behind them, just like how they tied up Jannah’s people.
"Sure, you’re not." Jannah rolled her eyes at them and walked towards the door, "Keep an eye out. I’ll come back later once we’re done cleaning the mess I made."
"Yes, my lady." Arthur nodded his head, voice calm and neutral as he keep his body straight.
"Good." Jannah smiled at him and turned around to walk out the door with Aran and the others, but she remembered something which made her stop abruptly in the doorway.
She turned her head to look at the men inside the room, "Where are the leopard cubs?"
"They’re sleeping upstairs with Loren, my lady." Alejandro answered, "Should I call him and bring the cubs down?"
"Yes, I need to bring them to their mother." Jannah agreed to his suggestion without much thought, and watched as Alejandro made a beeline towards the staircase.
She turned to Aran and the maids, "It’s alright. Go ahead and prepare our breakfast."
"Please excuse us." Lilo lowered her head with the others following her action and left the town’s hall to go to the house beside the blacksmith shop.
"My lady!" Loren’s voice caught Jannah’s attention, making her look back inside the town’s hall.
Two cubs are running towards her while Loren is carrying the injured one. She gave the cubs a soft smile, holding her arms out to take the cub from Loren’s arms.
"Thank you for taking care of them." Jannah expressed her gratitude as she took the baby leopard into her arms, "I was occupied to the point I failed to check on them before I left."
"It’s okay, my lady."
Jannah nodded her head and walked out of the town’s hall completely, letting the cubs follow her to the mail house, where their mother is waiting.
