The Countess Lives Twice in the Apocalypse-Chapter 51: Fifty
A large rock whisked past Jannah’s head, barely missing her ear by a centimeter, hitting the man on the head and making him groan out, a trail of blood dripping from his hair.
"You should have died with others!" A woman with short blue hair and baby blue eyes screamed at the man, stomping her way towards them.
She threw another rock, her eyes glossed with tears as she sobbed out, "You’re a trash! Trash like your brother! Like the Baron! Like every men in this trash of a town!"
Jannah could feel the seething anger and despair from the woman. She could only guess that she’s one of the mother’s who lost her child to these men’s cruelty.
She stepped aside, grabbing the mace from the cool furnace and handed it to the woman, who didn’t spare her a glance, but took the mace from her hand.
"I’ll make sure that your remaining hours in this land would be worthwhile." The grieving woman promised the man before she brought the mace down to his knees, hitting his kneecaps.
"AHH!"
The immediate reaction from the man made the other four men cower.
They tried to crawl away, scrambling to go as far as they can from the woman, completely forgetting the fact that they’re tied up in a pole specially made for them by the Duke of the east.
The Countess looked at the knights, "Don’t do anything to them. Let the ladies pour their anger on these men instead, alright?"
"Yes, my lady." Jeremiah lowered his head, answering her for his fellow knights.
"Good." She nodded her head, turning away from them and perked up when she saw a familiar face in the distance.
Jannah saw the remaining ladies approach the blacksmith shop with Jeriel leading them. She waved her hand at her little sister which was returned quite enthusiastically.
She ignored the pained cries and begging behind her, opting to focus her attention on her approaching little sister.
Once they reached her spot, the ladies simultaneously nodded their head at her, bowing their head to show their sincerest gratitude and respect.
"Do whatever you want with them." Jannah smiled at them with a dismissive wave, "The knights will stay here to keep an eye on the men just in case they try to attack one of you. Don’t mind them and focus on what you want to do with them, okay?"
"Yes, Countess Rafelon." A woman with brown hair, emerald eyes, and freckled cheeks, answered her on behalf of her friends.
"You don’t have to address me with my title." Jannah forced a laugh and stepped aside to let the ladies walk past her, "Anyways, don’t let us keep you. I’m sure the men are excited for whatever you have for them."
"You’re crazy!" One of the men screamed out, struggling against his binds, "You’re a monster! You’re a damned witch!"
"You called us scumbags?! You’re a scumbag yourself!" Another man yelled.
Jannah kept the smile on her face, nodding her head towards the ladies as she reached out to grab Jeriel’s arm, "We will be by the watch tower in case you need me or my little sister."
"You’ll pay for this, woman!"
"I’ll ask Lucienta, Lilo, and Marietta to keep an eye out for the children. I won’t let them take a peak on what’s happening here, but make sure to be done with it before three o’clock." She reminded them of what they talked about in the mail house earlier.
One of the terms they agreed with was she’ll let them do whatever they want to the men, but only if they can promise that they’ll be done with them after three hours.
It’s already past noon and they need those extra time to pack their things to go to Philipia.
Also, they can’t leave the dead bodies of the men. The Duke’s people will have to incinerate their bodies by the blacksmith shop once they are done.
"Once we’re satisfied, we will make sure to help them burn the bodies, my lady." A woman with platinum blonde hair assured the Countess, "I have an experience when it comes to burning something."
"I can dissect the bodies if you want, my lady. It was a forbidden act, but I’m quite an expert when it comes to cutting things." Another woman spoke up, a soft smile on her face.
Jannah laughed nervously, a sweat drop on her cheek as her lips twitched, "I see, I see.. I’m glad to know that I will have skillful people under my wings, but for now, focus on what you want to do, okay?"
"Of course, Countess." The woman with freckled cheeks lowered her head.
"We will be done with it before you know it." The woman who has a dissection skill assured her with a smile.
Jannah nodded her head at them, pulling Jeriel away from the blacksmith shop to go to the watch tower, a chill run down her spine from the ladies’ statements.
"Well, aren’t they reliable?" Jeriel mused towards Jannah, amusement dancing in her ocean blue eyes.
"They are." Jannah chuckled lowly with a shake of her head, "I’m just glad we’re not the ones getting those special treatment from the ladies. It would have been a big trouble for us."
"I don’t mind if I get special treatment." Jeriel hummed out, making Jannah freeze and stop in her tracks.
"What?" Jannah blinked owlishly towards her.
"What?" Jeriel blinked back at her, tilting her head innocently.
"What does that mean?" Jannah narrowed her eyes towards her little sister, feeling clueless about what she’s implying.
Jeriel merely answered her by shrugging her shoulders, "Beats me— oh, by the way, did you know that the kids are afraid of you?"
Jannah’s eyebrows furrowed and opened her mouth, but she closed it, not sure what to say about the fact that her little sister redirected the conversation elsewhere.
She’ll tell me once she’s ready. Jannah assured herself and started walking towards the watchtower again.
When they reached the watchtower, they saw the Duke of the east shooting on arrows on the zombies on the other side of the wall. He was focused and fixated on aiming his bow on the undead that he didn’t notice them ascending the stairs.
Jeriel nudged Jannah on the arm, pointing at the Duke with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Jannah could only shake her head, slipping her bow off and pulling the nock against the bowstring.
She walked beside the Duke and opened her mouth, but was startled when Duke Eulicies suddenly turned to her, his purple eyes as wide as saucers, stumbling back out of shock.
"Sis!" Jeriel screamed, reaching a hand out, watching with wide eyes as her big sister lunged forward to catch the man.
The Duke jumped in his spot out of shock and almost fell backward— out of the wall, where several hands are waiting to grab him, but the Countess’s quick reflexes kicked in and she caught him just in time.
Her strong arms wrapped around his waist, pulling him back against her as she pulled him off from the wall and steadied him on his feet. Duke Eulicies’s fingers gripped her shoulder tightly, his breath coming in short gasps as he regained his footing.
Jannah’s face was a mix of concern and relief, her red eyes scanning his face to make sure that he’s mentally okay.
Her own heart was still racing from the adrenaline rush of catching him. She didn’t expect him to almost fall towards the zombies just because she had startled him.
"Are you okay? Goodness, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you." Jannah apologized almost immediately, her eyebrows furrowed as she kept her grip on his waist firm.
However, she didn’t hear any response from him and could only watch as the Duke lets out shaky breaths.
Despite being taller than her, her eyes caught the sight of small drops of sweat that had formed on the Duke’s forehead, and she could feel the slight tremble in his limbs as he steadied himself.
She tightened her grip on his waist, holding him firmly against her as she waited for him to get his bearings.
The unexpected intimacy of the moment, her firm hands holding his waist tightly and his body pressed against hers, sent a jolt of desire through him that he had not anticipated.
Jannah watched closely as the Duke’s eyes blinked at her, a warm flush spreading across his cheeks.
"Duke Zacharias?" Jannah called out, the frown on her face deepened when the man she catched still haven’t responded to her.
"Are you okay?!" Jeriel’s question made Jannah turned to look at her, "Why did you catch him? What would you do if you fell out of the wall with him?!"
Jannah’s lips twitches downwards slightly, gripping Duke Zacharias’s waist to stop herself from spouting words that might agitate her little sister further.
"I’m sorry." She apologized quickly, "I accidentally scared him. He would have fall to his death if I didn’t catch him."
Jeriel’s lips formed a straight line, a displeased look on her face, but she couldn’t say anything because the Duke raised a hand in the air, catching the sisters’ attention.
"Please don’t sneak up on me next time." Duke Eulicies frowned at them, placing his hand on the bottom of his face as his eyebrows furrowed, "It wasn’t a pleasant experience to almost die by falling into a horde of those things."
Jannah squinted her eyes towards him, noticing the tips of his ears turning red.
