Chapter 53: Fifty-two

"Sis?"

Jannah looked away from the system and looked at Jeriel when she called her name. Her little sister’s eyes have a look of concern and confusion.

"Are you okay? You stopped talking and spaced out all of a sudden?" Jeriel squeezed her arms, making her realize that her little sister must have grabbed her when she didn’t respond.

"Uhh, yeah, yeah— Yea.. Yeah? I mean, yes. I’m okay." Jannah stammered out, not expecting for the missions to be completed and pop out just like that.

"What happened?" The previous joyful atmosphere is gone, and got replaced with a serious one. Jannah could feel her little sister’s worry just by looking at her.

"Don’t worry." Jannah raised her hands and placed them on Jeriel’s forearms, "It’s the system. It told me that my missions are complete. The ladies must have killed the men just now."

"Is that a good thing?" The worry in Jeriel’s voice was clear as day, it was obvious that she doesn’t believe her sister’s words about her being okay.

"It’s a good thing." Jannah smiled and squeezed her little sister’s arms reassuringly, "It just means that I can earn rewards that will help me protect you and the others more efficiently."

The system proved her statement correct by notifying her about the rewards.

[Ding!]

[Ding!]

[Reward for the mission (Rescue my people) sent to Player Jannah’s mail box!]

[Reward for the side mission (Rescue the captured) sent to Player Jannah’s mail box!]

Jannah pulled her hand away from Jeriel’s arm and pressed the side of her head to open the mailbox.

The familiar sound of the system echoed in her mind before the mailbox revealed itself.

She glanced at the two boxes where the rewards are. She didn’t waste any time and immediately pressed the option on the bottom right corner of the mail box.

[Would you like to receive all the rewards?]

[YES] [NO]

She pressed the first option, lifting her hand in the air and placing her finger on the surface of the system— a sight which made Jeriel looks at her way weirdly, furrowing her eyebrows.

"What are you doing?" Jeriel can feel goosebumps in her arms as she step away from Jannah, if she didn’t move, then Jannah would have touch her nippl—

"Receiving the rewards." Jannah answered simply, not noticing what she almost done.

[You have received new skills! Check your skill window to see the skills and try them out!]

"And it looks like I received more skills as a reward." She continued, smiling on Jeriel’s direction, but focused her eyesight on the system.

Jannah didn’t waste any time to do what the system told her, opening the skill window and looked at the new skills she got.

"What the hell?" Jannah cussed out loud, eyebrows furrowed as she read the name of the new passive skill, "Devil’s Gaze? Do I look like the devil to you, Jeri?"

"That’s the name of what?" Jeriel asked, still staring at her big sister weirdly.

"A passive skill." Jannah answered, huffing and puffing her cheeks out as she crossed her arms, "I have other skills like salvation, punisher, and devotion, but now it gave me a passive skill with the name of the devil attached to it."

Jeriel blinked, listening to her big sister’s rant, and straightened her back, "Actually, that’s fascinating."

"Fascinating?" Jannah sounded offended, eyeing her with slight disdain.

"Yeah—" Jeriel forced out a cough, holding herself back from laughing, "I mean, you told me that you have a healing skill, right? It’s just funny— ahem, fascinating that you’re a healer, yet, have the devil’s gaze with you."

Jannah narrowed her eyes at Jeriel, "Must be funny for you, huh?"

Jeriel lets out a cough, pushing the laugh that wants to break free so bad down to her throat, "Anyways, what does that skill say? It has a description, right?"

"Yeah." Jannah crossed her arms and frowned at Jeriel, "But I’m not in the mood to read it now."

"Oh, come on." Jeriel huffed out, "Read it, please? I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to tease you."

Jannah stayed still, not bothered by Jeriel’s pleading. Seeing this, Jeriel moved to kneel down in front of her big sister, but Jannah stopped her before she could bend her knees.

"Alright, alright, alright." Jannah sighed out and forced Jeriel back to her feet, "I was just teasing you."

Jeriel’s lips twitched, a smirk creeping to her face as she shook her head, "We’re even now."

"Whatever." Jannah rolled her eyes at her little sister and pressed the plus sign on the system’s surface.

[ Devil’s Gaze:

• This is a fearsome passive skill that allows a player to eliminate an enemy with a single glance whenever the player feels threatened.

• This would make the skill incredibly potent and nearly unbeatable as the player would have the ability to defend themselves without even having to actively use the skill.

• However, it would also mean that the user would not have any control over when the skill activates which could potentially create unintended consequences or collateral damage in certain situations.

• The skill is swift, ruthless, and utterly deadly which is highly recommended for the player to stay levelheaded and confident all times.]

".. Holy moly." Jeriel breathed out, eyes wide in shock and fright as she stared at her big sister, "So that means you can kill people without the need to touch them?"

"Sounds like it." Jannah nodded her head, reading the description of the passive skill once more.

"Why do you sound so calm? It literally just said that you can kill people who feels like a threat to you without you needing to touch them!" Jeriel exclaimed exasperatedly, grabbing her arms and shaking her violently.

"I know!" Jannah retorted back, dragging the letter o to match her little sister’s dramatic antics.

"You sound so nonchalant!" Jeriel cried out, shaking her faster which made Jannah get dizzier as the seconds pass by, "This is dangerous for you!"

"Why the hell would it be dangerous for me?" Jannah hissed towards her little sister, dizzy as she can be, but not stopping Jeriel from shaking her violently.

"What if you feel threatened by yourself? You might kill yours— ack!"

Jannah shook her little sister off and smacked her on the arm, hard. The sudden movement had stopped Jeriel from continuing her statement.

"Ow! I was just joking!" Jeriel cried out, covering her arms to protect herself from the incoming assault.

"You have the guts to joke at a time like this?"

Smack!

Smack!

"Ow! Ow!"

"I thought you’re worried about our people, but you were scared that I might kill myself?"

Smack!

Smack!

"Ow! Ow! Ow!"

Smack!

Jannah smacked her a couple more times before she pulled her hand back, and turned to the system, staring at the surface of the skill window, eyeing the new skill— [Starlight].

"I don’t know what that system thing did to you, but holy moly, you packed a punch there. I felt like my arms were being mauled by a hammer. Your fists and punches have grown stronger and firmer compared two days ago! I feel like you’re turning into a green ogre—"

Wordlessly, Jannah pressed the plus sign beside the new skill. She figured that Jeriel will continue in her ramblings whether she listens or not, might as well start on getting to know her skills.

[Starlight:

• This is a formidable skill that creates a powerful gravitational vortex capable of pulling in and crushing a large number of enemies.

• It would manifest as a swirling pool of darkness that quickly expands in size, sucking in anything unfortunate enough to be caught in its vicinity. It has the ability to absorb all light in the area, creating an intense, pitch-black void that renders any living being within it absolutely blind.

• The gravitational pull would increase exponentially, making it impossible for anything to escape once caught in the vortex. ]

"Damn." Jannah blinked rapidly, quite shocked at how dangerous the [Starlight] skill sounds.

"What? What is it?" Jeriel asked, leaning her head on Jannah’s shoulder, peaking on where the system should be.

"This one skill sucks anything and everything in it’s vicinity. Escape? That would be just another word you wished you didn’t learn." Jannah chuckled out, relieved that she’s the one who gets skills like that and no one else.

"Does it suck allies, too?" Jeriel tilted her head, "You told me that some of the skills can expand to your members, right? What if we’re not safe from this one?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Jannah blinked and turned her head to look at her little sister, "You’re making me doubt my confidence in myself. What if I don’t use this skill even if we’re losing? All because of the unknown."

[Ding!]

Jannah turned her attention back to the system, reading the text that popped up.

"I’m just saying." Jeriel shrugged her shoulders, "I just want to know. For all we know, you might get suck in, too—"

"Hold that thought." Jannah said and cut Jeriel off, "Apparently, if I invited people to my party and officially made them my people, they will be safe from my skills.".

"How the hell did you know?"

Jannah simply pointed at the screen, smiling teasingly towards her little sister, "It told me."
