The Countess Lives Twice in the Apocalypse-Chapter 84: Eighty-three
Count Nige was known for his bad reputation, his notable underground network paving way for him to do his bidding.
Not only that, he was also known for his good looks.
The man walked with grace, his chin held up, proud and tall— having long white hair that fell in waves down to his shoulders, and down to his back in silken waves was one of his eye-catching features.
Its silvery strands contrast against his striking golden eyes, like pools of liquid sunlight. His face was defined by sharp, angular features— his eyebrows slightly furrowed, giving him an intelligent look.
The sharp angles of his high cheekbones were softened by his narrowed eyes, giving him an unapproachable air that was at odds with his windswept locks.
His shoulders were broad and his hands large, betraying his soft facade due to the powerful strength he’s displaying by the sack splayed over his shoulders.
He towers over most knights that he passes by on his way to the town’s hall where Marco is leading him by at least a foot.
He was draped in a flowing coat of the same bright yellow as his eyes, the fabric shimmering in the sunlight like the surface of a pond— though, the grime and dirt on his clothes have covered the intricate designs, it still couldn’t cover the grace of a nobility he have.
"Are you taking me to my bride?" The Count asked, his long legs taking big strides and walked beside the head butler with unspeakable grace and ease, "I came here for her. Tell me if you’re going to lead me to her or someone else."
Marco let out a deep and exhausted sigh through his nose, the carbon dioxide hitting his mustache and made his hair move as he exhaled deeply.
The Count has been asking for his master for the past ten minutes and has been talking about how his master is his bride so he has the right to see the Countess, but his master specifically said that he should lead Count Nige to the office in the town hall.
It has been an hour since he last contacted his master through their mental communication link and hasn’t contacted her since then.
However, he’s very tempted to contact her right now just to get the Count off his back.
I get that my master is an amazing and admirable person, but it gets exhausting to be the one to receive the suitors’ love problems or rant. The head butler thought, forcing his legs to go faster so he can get the Count off his back.
Hearing no response from the butler, Count Nige’s face twisted into a displeased one, his thin, soft lips curling downward into a frown.
The walk towards the town hall was longer than the head butler expected, but the Count beside him was a real head turner, and it was entertaining enough to see women swoon when their eyes landed on him.
However, their swooning was quick to cease when they saw the frown on his face, which looked like it was almost edging to a scowl.
"Butler, tell me if we’re going to her or not." Count Nige sounded like he was whining at this point, and Marco could tell that the Count was getting impatient.
Thankfully, Marco doesn’t have to deal with the Count any longer because he could see the town hall in the distance.
He physically brightened up, his grey eyes shining with hope and life as his pace got faster, almost running and when he was approximately three meters away from the town hall, he made a run for it.
He was getting desperate to get the white haired handsome man behind him off his back and go back to his duty— stacking arrows on the wooden cart specifically set aside for the Countess and her little sister.
Marco opened the door for the Count, letting the nobleman walk inside the building first before him.
"Is she here?" Count Nige asked, his eyebrows furrowed, his fist clenching against the sack on his shoulder as he glanced at the head butler, "Answer me."
Marco merely nodded and lowered his head as he answered with a monotone voice, "Yes, my lord. She’s waiting on the second floor, at the office, so please head there now and don’t let the Countess wait any longer."
The Count’s face reverted back to his earlier expression, excited and happy, then made a beeline towards the staircase, he didn’t think twice and immediately ascended the stairs without saying anything to Marco.
The head butler could only let out a sigh of relief, his shoulders sagging forward as he watched the eager Count smile to himself.
My lady? Marco called out, clearing his mind and focusing his thoughts on the Countess’s train of thoughts, seeking for his master’s mental communication link to be connected.
Thank you for leading him here. The Countess responded almost immediately, her voice ringing in the back of his mind.
I see him approaching the door. Good job, Marco. Thank you for your help. Make sure to take a break now and sleep. Jannah thanked the head butler for his obedience, her eyes trained on the map, following the Count’s dot movements.
It’s my pleasure, my lady. Marco’s voice sounded exhausted, but still has the usual courteous and lighthearted tone.
She didn’t respond, not that she could, a knock on the door had caught her attention and enabled her to respond to Marco and wish him well.
Knock.
Knock.
Knock.
Jannah glanced at the map, her eyes locking on the dot outside the door which made her let out a sigh and tell him to go inside the office.
"Come in." She called out, her voice loud and clear.
As soon as she said the signal to go inside, the door slammed open, making the hinges cry out in protest and make the floorboards creaked beneath the unexpected impact before the Count strutted inside with all his beauty and glory. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
The man had his long white hair that fell in gentle waves around his face, his silvery strands framing features that were both angelic and exotic. His skin was golden and smooth, with no signs of age or weathering, that will make every woman envy him.
His eyes, though, were the most striking feature, and that was what Jannah had first noticed the moment he went inside the room.
The man in front of her was the only eligible marriage partner she had before the outbreak, but of course, that marriage didn’t happen because of the outbreak.
"Countess Rafelon!" Count Nige exclaimed, his golden irises shining with delight and excitement.
"Count Nige." Jannah nodded her head at him, acknowledging his presence and gestured towards the door, "Please close the door. We have something important to discuss."
"Of course, of course~" The Count hummed out, dropping the sack from his shoulder down to the floorboards and making long strides towards the door to close it.
He reached out his right arm and grabbed the door, then he slammed it close— the strength he had used was so much that the impact the door made shook the walls slightly.
"Please be gentle with doors and other things in the town, most of the furniture, structures, and equipment here are old." Jannah narrowed her eyes at him, displeased at the behavior he had shown her, "If you continue to do as you please then I have no choice, but to have my knights escort you out."
At her serious warning, the Count threw his hands in the air in a surrendering manner and puffed out his cheeks, "Do forgive me. I was just excited that I finally got to meet you."
Jannah raised an eyebrow at him and decided to not comment on what he said. Instead, her eyes scanned him from head to toe, before she noticed the dirty and dark sack on the floor.
"What’s inside the sack?" Jannah asked, voice void of emotion and had a blank expression on her face.
Her question seemed to remind him of something, his face brightened up even more and smiled at her, "It’s a gift for you! I didn’t want to come here empty-handed so I visited its territory myself when the capital fell into ruin."
"Territory?" Jannah couldn’t stop the inquiry from leaving her lips, she wasn’t trying to pry into his business, but she just had to open her big mouth, didn’t she?
"Yes." The Count chuckled, dark and ominous, with his golden irises glinting dangerously, "I scavenged a lot of things in its territory and decided to bring everything I could bring with me here."
"And where was that?" Jannah raised an eyebrow once more, "Was that the reason why it took you almost two weeks to reach north?"
"Yes and no." Count said, a teasing glint in his eyes, "It took me a whole week to cross the inner border because of those things.. I found out that they’re more active during the day instead of night so I had to stop during the day."
"I see.. But you didn’t answer my question." Jannah frowned, her eyes shifting towards the dirty sack on the floor, "What’s inside the sack, my lord?"
"Well.. I don’t know if you’ll be happy with me." Count Nige pursed his lips, a false expression of sadness in his face.
"Just answer my question." Jannah sighed out.
"Since you insist.." The Count’s face twisted into a delighted expression once more, "It’s Baron Pangasikan’s head, my lady!"
