Chapter 93: Ninety-two

"Countess Rafelon!"

Jannah perked from the paperwork she is currently buried into, her bloody red eyes glancing at the person who called for her and wanted her attention.

Only to let out a tired sigh for the nth time, her eyes staring a hole into his face, hoping that it would make him stop bothering her.

"It’s either you’ll keep your pretty mouth shut or I’ll kick you out of the mansion until evening, Count Nige." Jannah said, her voice dripping with exhaustion and frustration.

The white haired pretty man has been bothering her since he came back from helping the knights with the supplies he brought to the town.

He was quite strong, quick, and helpful because he managed to lift a crate or two from the wagon to the town hall, but he was troublesome too because as soon as the Princess, Jeriel, and Duke Eulicies were done, he made a run for it to go see his supposed bride to be.

Which leads to this situation.

Princess Huenazia, Jeriel, and Duke Eulicies watching Count Nige fawn over Jannah as she tries to segregate the papers according to the houses where she will put them.

She was almost done, but due to the Count’s constant call for attention, she couldn’t finish the last bit.

"You think my mouth is pretty?" The Count gasped out of awe before he fluttered his white eyelashes towards her, "Would you like to feel these pretty lips against your soft ones, Countess?"

Apparently, he is aware that he’s good-looking and is using it to his advantage.

Bam!

Someone slammed their hands on the table, alarming everyone inside the dining hall to snap their attention to the person who did it.

"Have you got no shame, Count Nige?" The Princess growled out, her eyes narrowed into a menacing glare.

The Count blinked, not expecting for the crowned princess to create a scene, but then, his lips curled up into a sly smile as he leaned forward, "I’m merely asking my bride if she wants to feel my love."

"By asking her if you can kiss her?" Duke Eulicies asked, chiming in as he shot a glare to the Count.

Jannah took the fight between the three people to finish the remaining work, her eyes scanning and absorbing the information written on the paper like how a sponge absorbs liquid.

"What?" The Count sounded dubious and incredulous, "Now, why would I ask that? I was simply asking if she wanted to kiss these pretty lips of mine!"

"How crude of you, my lord." Kirie said, a forced and icy smile on her lips.

"I am not crude, I am a gentleman." Count Nige corrected the green haired lady with a matter-of-fact tone, "Even my dearest bride thinks so."

"She did not say such a thing." Princess Huenazia hissed, the crease on her eyebrows furrowing further at how displeased she currently is with the noble on the other side of the table.

"She did." The Count insisted with a huff as he placed his hands on his hips, "I’ll let the three of you know right now since you are too stubborn to believe me that she has embraced me quite passionately back in the town hall office."

A collective gasp erupted in the air, their eyes wide in shock and disbelief as they simultaneously shot the Countess a look, a single train of thought running through their head while watching her look through the papers.

Did she really embrace him?

"W.. Why would she embrace an infamous noble like you?" Kirie asked, her respect and composure thrown out of the window after hearing his statement.

The Count smirked, "Because she found me attractive like any other women and men out there?"

"You’re so shameless." Duke Eulicies’s nose scrunched up in disgust and irritation, "I can’t believe that you became my friend. How can you be this shameless to the person who you deem to be your bride?"

Bam!

"Exactly!" Princess Huenazia agreed, slamming her hands on the table and standing up from her chair, too heated and annoyed to keep sitting down, "Gentlemen don’t treat their brides to be like this!"

"I agree to disagree, Your Highness." The Count smiled at her, "I believe that I’m a gentleman so I need to keep our marriage life as entertaining and fascinating as I could to not let my bride divorce me, no?"

"That doesn’t make sense." Kirie whined, the annoyance evident on her face as she continued to frown.

The argument between the four of them continued. Jeriel and Jannah were done with the paperwork, taking the argument an opportunity to slip out of the dining hall unnoticed.

The two of them exited the mansion, their footsteps quick and light as they make their way to the town hall where Clara and Lucienta are currently stationed.

"A lovely afternoon, Countess! To you as well, Lady Jeriel!"

"Good afternoon, pretty lady! And pretty lady’s sister!"

As usual, the people they passed by greeted them with delight and enthusiasm, beaming brightly and said their greetings from the bottom of their hearts.

Jannah and Jeriel could only smile back at them, unable to stop since they are too busy to stop.

They need to sort out the families and let them know about the sleeping arrangements before nighttime. Lucienta, Polo, and Merlot— who woke up from the ruckus outside the mansion— will be the ones to oversee the process of people moving into their new houses.

"Jannah, Jeriel." Merlot raised his head from the stacks of paper on the desk, "Already done? That was fast."

"It wasn’t that bad." Jeriel said as she dropped the stack of papers on the coffee table and promptly plopped herself on the couch, "The dining hall in the mansion was in chaos, we had to leave immediately or else."

"We separated the people that will be going to the houses on the right and left, half of the knights will be occupying the first three houses by the front gates and half of them will be occupying the house by the back gates." Jannah stated, stretching her limbs.

"You already segregated them?" Clara asked, her voice laced with awe and surprise as she lifted the papers, sorting through the stacks to look at the people who will be staying with each other.

"Yes, and I would appreciate it very much if the two of you can start with overseeing right away." Jannah said, walking over to the desk, "I can take over the remaining paperwork."

"Sure." Merlot smiled at his friend and rose from his seat, "It’s just the supplies stored in this building anyways."

"Sounds good." Jannah muttered and took Merlot’s previous spot, sinking onto the soft cushion which made her let out a sigh of relief.

She grabbed the first paper she needed to look through and was about to start skimming through it when she remembered something important.

She perked up, just in time to see Merlot walk towards the door with Clara nowhere in sight, she could guess that the Marquess went out first out of her uncontrollable eagerness to do work.

"Merl." She called out.

Jeriel and the Marques paused on what they were doing, turning their head to look at her at the same time. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"Tell the knights who are doing daytime duty to come here, but don’t let them all go. Split them in half then once I’m done with that half, send the other half here." Jannah said softly, grabbing another paper from the pile on her left.

"Are you going to put them in the social bonds, too?" Jeriel asked, tilting her head.

"Yes." Jannah answered truthfully and went back to the paper in her hand, "We’ll be going back to the capital next week so I’m preparing this town for any scenario that might happen."

"Oh, so we’re going back to—"

Jannah’s words didn’t seem to sink on her little sister’s and friend’s head so she proceeded to skim through the content of the paper, her eyes shifting slowly from up to down.

She waited for them to react the way she expected, which took almost five whole minutes.

"We’re going back to where?!" Jeriel screeched, sitting upright on the couch with her eyes as wide as saucers, "Who is the ’we’ are you talking about?!"

Jannah ignored her little sister’s outburst and waited for Merlot to say his, not wanting to be interrupted mid sentence because he had just finished processing the plan she had in mind.

"What?!" Merlot shrieked out of shock, his reaction was the same exact reaction she had received from her little sister, "Why are you going back to the capital?! There are monsters out there!"

Jannah hummed softly, putting the papers in her hands to the pile on her right and grabbed another two from the pile on her left.

"I received something from the system, I need to check it out to know what kind of feature it is." Jannah answered, not stopping with the paperwork, but still paying attention to them.

"But why— why would you— you know what?" Merlot stopped himself from talking and let out a groan to calm himself, "Let’s talk about this later once we’re done with this task. You better answer every question I have!"

He closed the door behind him, his footsteps echoing in the hall that gradually disappeared from earshot.

"Now, what was that?"
