Chapter 1084: Genuine

Deep into the night, the cold moonlight shrouded the ruinous crimson palace. Occupying the supreme spot was the throne of pride. Wang Zikai slowly looked up. All six thrones were now occupied. Even Gao Xinxin, who had flown away in a fit, had been compelled to return.

She wore new clothes—a loose black hoodie, straight-leg jeans, and sneakers. Her hood covered half her face, revealing only her tapered chin and two braids. Arms crossed around her legs, she curled into her seat silently, like a runaway seeking refuge on a park bench after a fight with her parents.

“Greed, how did you turn out like this?” Mark asked.

Gone was the senile old man suffering from a stroke. This man was spirited, his eyes fierce. His naked torso rippled with lithe muscles. He wore loose black boxer's shorts and a red cape around his shoulders, his hands wrapped in bloodied white bandages.

Arms spread and legs crossed, he occupied his throne like a returned boxing king in his prime. Half-obscured by shadow, his aged, sunken face was sharp as blades.

Across from Mark, a cadaver occupied the throne of greed—Surnamed Li. With the shroud removed, her body swirled with insidious black mist. Black feathers covered her like a quaint evening gown.

Her pale calves, exposed beneath the dress, were covered in densely packed red vertical eyes, each darting about as if surveying an endless array of curiosities.

Gurgle. Surnamed Li’s forehead cracked, and a vertical eye emerged, glowing faintly red. Then her lower face stiffened, and the neck shifted. The body spoke in a cold voice, “As you can see, such is the price of waking up early.”

Liu Tao laughed hoarsely from the throne of gluttony. Black taichi clothes draped over his bony body. His eyes were a dull gray. “As before, you just have to set out early.”

“I’m being prepared,” said Surnamed Li.

“Giving up your body and hiding in an awakener’s legs as a parasite for so many years? It’s such a hassle just thinking about it.” Wang Shu lay on the throne of sloth with a pillow in her arms. She looked at home—like she was lounging on the sofa in her living room. She only needed a remote control in her hand to complete the picture.

“Not a parasite. I’ve overtaken her body.” Surnamed Li corrected. “I didn’t just occupy her legs, but her everything.”

“Well,” Wang Shu said with a slight smile. “You did take her name as well.”

The moment Greed overtook Surnamed Li, the woman's name ceased to exist. No one found it strange that they had forgotten her real name. It was as if she never had a first name, only her surname, Li.

“A name isn’t just a name. It’s one’s identity, status, fate.” Surnamed Li turned stiffly to look over each of her fellow death monsters. “If not for the summoner prime, you would’ve forgotten your names. Not me. I’d never forget who I am.”

Zhou Jing laughed from the throne of lust. She lounged like Wang Shu, but her body arranged itself in an alluring posture. Her eyes were hazy and seductive, her form entirely naked save for the few dark purple scales covering her private parts. She resembled a succubus from mythology.

“What a fool you are, Greed. I would’ve occupied men, many men, haha...”

Surnamed Li's stiff facial muscles twisted into a sneer. “This woman’s Prophet fits my power, making her a good host for me. And her identity made it easier to stir things up.”

Curling in the throne of envy, Gao Xinxin threw back her hood and glared at Surnamed Li. “You falsely accused my brother of being the Malediction! You made life so difficult for him!”

“I’ve merely been fulfilling my duty.” Surnamed Li cast a sideways glance at the blond young man sitting on the towering throne of pride. “Unfortunately, your brother’s best friend was too powerful and kept foiling my plan, or the Divine Scion would’ve died already.”

Gao Xinxin clicked her tongue. “Only the weak play dirty.”

Mark guffawed. “Nicely said.”

“There are no 'weak,' only losers who have underestimated their opponents,” Surnamed Li said, unfazed.

“The Divine Scion?” Zhou Jing’s eyes brimmed with want. She put a hand on her lips and rubbed her legs together. “I can’t wait—”

“I’m warning you, Lust,” Gao Xinxin snapped. “Gao Yang’s mine. Don’t get any ideas.”

Zhou Jing chuckled coquettishly, waving at her. “Why the jealousy? We can share what’s good.”

“Sorry, I don’t share.” Gao Xinxin’s smile didn’t reach her eyes.

Zhou Jing covered her mouth and laughed again. “What a prude.”

Wang Shu yawned and stretched. “It’s reassuring to see all of you being so motivated. If there’s nothing else, I’ll go home and sleep.”

After a moment of silence, the six death monsters looked up at the blond young man in the throne of pride.

“Pride, why did you summon us? Got a plan?” Mark was ready to make a move.

Wang Zikai scanned the six of them indifferently. “No plan. You’re free to do whatever you want to do. I only summoned you for one order: Do not touch Gao Yang. He is mine.”

“Pride,” Surnamed Li spoke up coolly, “Don’t underestimate the Divine Scion. I’ve tried everything, yet I cannot peek into his fate—”

“Greed,” Wang Zikai interrupted her impatiently, narrowing his eyes and leaning forward, elbows on his thighs. He sneered, “Do you know who you’re talking to?”

Surnamed Li fell silent; she couldn’t speak.

The six death monsters felt a tremendous pressure they had never experienced before. It was as if the whole palace weighed down upon them, forcing their gazes downward and demanding their obedience.

Wang Zikai smirked. “I’ve never underestimated anyone. I’ve always genuinely thought that everyone, including all of you, is trash.”

He leaned back, and the pressure lifted. They could finally raise their heads.

Wang Zikai spread his arms and crossed his legs, regarding them with a bored look.

“That’s it. Get out of my sight.”
