Chapter 64: Come With Me

"Oh my! It's a grand welcome," Krisha murmured to Dani from behind. "I wonder if we'll be able to see Niran and Laura around."

Currently, the three of them were standing near the rails of the ship's deck as they neared the dock of Valcrez. It was supposed to be daylight still, but since the kingdom was located further north than the rest of the world, sunlight was nowhere to be found.

Looking around, there were so many citizens currently waiting by the dock. They could also see the grand and luxurious decorations adorning the welcoming party for the King and Queen of Valcrez.

"Welcome, miladies, to Valcrez, where you will only witness the rising sun once or twice every season." Vassal Gregory, who suddenly appeared behind them, commented with a chuckle.

"Right, those are the Midnight Suns," Zaila recalled with a smile.

"Indeed," Gregory hummed in agreement. "And it usually lasts for the whole twenty-four hours of the day, milady."

"I guess my skin will get lighter by staying here," Zaila remarked with a grin.

Dani shook her head as she suppressed a burst of laughter from escaping her lips. Zaila had a darker skin tone while preferring to have a lighter color, so she would often use potions to whiten her skin.

"But you already have very lovely skin, milady," Gregory praised Zaila with those sparkling eyes of his. "The tan color of your skin suits you perfectly. It's alluring and eye-catching."

Dani and Krisha unknowingly turned to each other and shared a meaningful glance. It looked like their presence was no longer needed. Giving each other a nod, they both quietly left the premises, leaving Zaila on her lonesome to enjoy the vassal's company.

"I wonder when Her Majesty will arrive," Krisha hummed as they walked back inside the ship.

"I'm sure they'll arrive soon," Dani commented. "Gregory said that we'll drift near the dock until His Majesty and Her Majesty arrive. Until then, let's just wait.

Krisha nodded. From there, they simply lazed about as they watched their fellow shadow maiden talk and flirt with Gregory. It seemed like there was something happening between the two of them, and they couldn't help but chuckle at their comrade's expense.

"Looks like Zaila is smitten with Lord Gregory," Krisha noted with a smirk. "Do you think Marquess Thibault will allow her to be in a relationship with a vampire?"

If they recalled correctly, Zaila's father was one of the few people who, alongside Dani's big brother, Atlas who was also the Great Constable of Ebodia, were against marrying off the Princess of Ebodia to the Kingdom of Valcrez. Her father George, however, who was also the Duke of Avani located in the eastern part of Ebodia, was a very supportive father to both her and Atlas.

"It's not like Zaila was listening to her father from the start," Dani reminded.

"Right. The five of us don't listen well to our families," Krisha chuckled with a snort. "We're old enough to make our own decisions anyway. And besides, we're helping our kingdom this way, and we've already given great contributions to Ebodia for years before we even left."

Krisha then sighed as she added, "Our Queen has always been vocal about us being able to leave her at any time. She wants us to have our own families as well, but for some reason, I really can't picture myself leaving her side."

Dani was about to comment when she stopped herself. She noticed something, so she stopped walking to focus on what exactly it was that piqued her attention.

"What is it?" Krisha asked.

"You go on ahead and double-check if everything's ready for Her Majesty's arrival," Dani remarked. "I'll just look at something."

Krisha nodded in understanding before quickly walking ahead of her. Meanwhile, Dani cast a spell around herself as she quietly followed Rosela who had just appeared in front of her somehow.

Ever since they had transferred to another ship, Dani never saw Rosela coming out to the main deck of the ship. This was the first time she saw her going out, and for some reason, she had the urge to find out what exactly the woman had been up to all this time.

Following the woman around, she frowned when Rosela stopped by the door of the Chancelor's cabin. Dani simply stood as she watched Rosela stand there for a long while, acting as if she was contemplating whether or not she should enter the room.

'She could just travel in her mist form, so why not do that and simply invade his privacy?' she inwardly wondered.

Dani had been suspicious enough about this arrangement even before this happened. And after asking around, no one seemed to be suspecting that the Chancellor and Rosela were in a romantic relationship. Everyone was saying that Lady Rosela was more or less the King's mistress, and it looked like she was the only one who had that thought.

Keeping an eye on her target, Dani's brows lifted up when Rosela walked ahead and away from the Chancellor's door. She shook her head. Was she just overthinking things? But what was that she saw that dawn?

Unconvinced, Dani walked forward and stopped just in front of Abel's door. "Why do I feel like I have to dig deeper into this?"

Inevitably, however, she turned to leave, staring at the ground instead as she walked while in deep thought. She wondered if she should pursue her gut feeling.

What if she was right and that those two were indeed involved in a discreet romantic relationship? But again, such news would surely not cause harm to their Queen, right? It should be a good thing since that meant Rosela wouldn't bother the King.

"Ouch!"

She hissed as she bumped up against a sturdy chest. Raising her head, she frowned as she saw who exactly it was that she bumped into.

"My apologies, milady, but I believe it is you who wasn't looking properly while walking."

It was Chancellor Abel. She wasn't a tall woman, so despite herself, she was just barely reaching the height of his shoulders. She reluctantly had to tilt her head up just to look at his face.

"My apologies, Chancellor," she apologized with a forced smile. "I was in deep thought."

"I see… But I wonder how you ended up in this wing of the ship when your cabin is away in a different direction," Abel pointed out with snapped brows. "Do you somehow need me for something to stand here right in front of my door?"

Dani gave him an awkward smile and said, "Oh, no... The ship is quite big, and I thought it would be nice to look around in my spare time while waiting for Her Highness to arrive."

"Well, since you're already here, why don't you come inside with me then, Lady Dani?" Abel offered with a faint smile.

"Oh no, there's no need, milord," Dani insisted. "I'll be going back now to wait for Her Majesty's arrival."

"Come with me inside," Abel commanded and Dani felt her body stiffened.
