The Delicate Darling with Her Rough Man-Chapter 108 - 107: In One Ear and Out the Other
Gu Jiaojiao said nothing.
’I’ll need medicinal herbs for many things in the future. There’s no way I can stop going up the mountain.’
Her clear defiance made Leng Yuan’s temples throb.
’His young wife usually seemed so sweet and obedient, but she was actually quite stubborn.’
However, Leng Yuan didn’t argue the point with her. With her still on his back, he walked over to the wild boar.
As Leng Yuan approached, he deliberately aimed the light away from the boar. When Gu Jiaojiao looked toward it, all she saw was darkness.
Leng Yuan squatted down, grabbed a pig’s leg, and began dragging the animal down the mountain with Gu Jiaojiao still on his back.
Lying on Leng Yuan’s broad back, Gu Jiaojiao finally relaxed. She felt utterly exhausted and starved. She glared at the wild boar beside them and spoke viciously.
"When we get back, I want it chopped into pieces. We’ll strip the meat from the bone and eat it. That’s the only way I’ll feel avenged."
Leng Yuan couldn’t help but chuckle.
’There was probably some hatred there, but it was more likely that she was just ravenous.’
Still, he knew to let his wife save face.
"Alright. We’ll butcher it as soon as we get back."
When the two of them reached the foot of the mountain, several figures suddenly darted out. Gu Jiaojiao jumped in fright again, but thankfully, Leng Yuan remained calm, recognizing them as people.
A closer look revealed Chen JianShe, Zhao Tiezhu, and Xu Chongshan.
Seeing the couple come down, the three men breathed a sigh of relief. They rushed forward, all talking at once as they checked on them. They only relaxed after seeing that both were unharmed.
Chen JianShe was the careless type and wasn’t watching where he was going. Just as he was about to approach Brother Leng to help carry something, he tripped.
Chen JianShe went sprawling.
Luckily, the wild boar broke his fall, so Chen JianShe wasn’t hurt. But as he felt what was underneath him, he stared in shock for a moment before opening his mouth to scream.
Anticipating this, Leng Yuan dropped the boar’s leg and clamped a hand over Chen JianShe’s mouth.
"Don’t make a sound."
’There might be other people around at this hour.’
Chen JianShe nodded vigorously, swallowing his scream.
Xu Chongshan and Zhao Tiezhu looked over. By the light of the moon, they too saw the thing on the ground, and both gasped in unison.
’Oh my god, a huge wild boar!’
’This...?’
’What are we going to do with this?’
Xu Chongshan spoke first. "JianShe, you go scout ahead and see if anyone’s around. Tie Zhu and I will follow behind and haul the boar back under the cover of darkness."
Fortunately, Leng Yuan’s house was right at the foot of the mountain, so it was close and wouldn’t attract too much attention.
At these words, Chen JianShe immediately shot off.
Urged on by the other two, Leng Yuan carried Gu Jiaojiao on his back and headed home first.
Once they got the all-clear from Chen JianShe, the remaining two men began dragging the boar home.
This massive boar, weighing over two hundred pounds, had the two men red-faced with exertion as they tried to carry it. In the end, they decided it was better for each of them to just grab a leg and drag it home.
They were truly in awe of Leng Yuan.
Dragging a boar of over two hundred pounds down the mountain with one hand... and the crucial part was, he was carrying someone on his back at the same time.
’If only the boar weren’t dead, it would have loved to tell them that Leng Yuan had killed it by swinging it through the air and slamming it to the ground. Just dragging it was nothing!’
When Gu Jiaojiao got home, she saw the cold pots and stove but insisted on getting up to cook.
Leng Yuan offered to cook, but Gu Jiaojiao refused.
While the four men discussed the wild boar outside, Gu Jiaojiao lit a kerosene lamp and started cooking in the kitchen.
By the time the meal was ready, Chen JianShe and the other two had left.
She looked at Leng Yuan.
Leng Yuan explained.
"It’s getting late, so they all went home. They’ll come over tomorrow morning to butcher the pig."
He had originally planned to split it evenly, but the three of them refused to take any. In the end, he settled on giving each of them ten pounds of meat.
Zhao Tiezhu and Chen JianShe were fine with that, but Xu Chongshan didn’t want the meat, so Leng Yuan gave him its value in cash instead.
Calculated at a rate of one yuan per pound, he gave him ten yuan.
That was about the same as the black market price.
Gu Jiaojiao didn’t concern herself with these matters, leaving them for Leng Yuan to handle.
After dinner, they both washed up and went to bed.
That night, Gu Jiaojiao slept restlessly. Leng Yuan stayed by her side, soothing her, until Gu Jiaojiao couldn’t help but snuggle deeper into his arms and finally fall into a peaceful sleep.
