Chapter 29: Not That Kind Of Relationship

Samantha’s eyes grew as wide as the plates on the table, her face turning as white as a sheet. Her mind went completely blank, unable to distinguish between her confusion and the pressing reality. It felt as if she were submerged beneath ice-cold water, unable to breathe. Her heart pounded in her ears while her body stiffened like a rock.

She didn’t know how long she remained in that stupor. At some point, Samantha finally began to see clearly again. As her eyes locked onto Jason’s grinning face, the words left her mouth as if they didn’t belong to her.

"What... What do you mean... it’s in your house?"

The man let out a sinister laugh.

"You could never have expected this to happen, huh? Well, it was incredibly foolish of you to leave that baby with your drunkard boyfriend and hope that nothing would go wrong, Sam."

Seeing how Samantha was rendered speechless again, Jason decided to pour more salt into the wound and started explaining.

"Well, Samantha, let me tell you what happened. After you took my money and ran away from your apartment, leaving your child with that junkie boyfriend who had been leeching off you, you made the mistake of leaving a DNA test result behind.

So, once that imbecile finally realized that you were not coming back to give him more money, he brought that baby to my office along with the papers and demanded more money from me. He threatened that if I didn’t pay, he would go to the press and stir up trouble for William and me.

"I, of course, took care of your idiotic boyfriend, but something urged me to hold onto the kid and wait until you resurfaced. And goodness me––you actually did! If that’s not luck, then I think I have some higher forces watching over me." free𝑤ebnovel.com

Samantha remembered it all as if it had happened only yesterday. Jason didn’t know the full truth about her relationship with his brother. She did like William, and she believed he liked her too. Every time they met, he promised he would take care of her, get her out of debt, get her out of that bar, and give her a chance at a better life.

His promises, however, didn’t mean a thing. Just like any other man in his position, William was telling this to every girl he wanted to sleep with. And his sweet promises would always end the moment the girl’s body no longer gave him the thrill he needed.

She was naive to fall into his trap, but she wasn’t stupid enough to let him get away with his lies.

’He used me as if I were nothing but a mere plaything, a doll without a heart. So I wanted to do that too. I wanted to show him what it feels like to be used. Was I so wrong to let him taste his own medicine? So why... why do I have to be the only one paying for this?’

Mr. Sanson laughed again, his voice booming like thunder and attracting the attention of other diners. It jolted Samantha back to her senses. She wiped the beads of cold sweat from her forehead and asked in a quiet voice, "What the hell are you going to do with that child now?"

"Why do you ask?" Jason leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms. "It’s not like you care about it anyway. You only gave birth to it to blackmail my brother. And yet, see how the tables have turned? I feel like I struck gold because now, I am the one who can blackmail you with it."

Samantha frowned, feeling a mixture of anger and fear.

"Is money the only thing you want from me to keep your dirty mouth shut?"

"How rude! I don’t think you should be talking to me in that tone, my dear Sam. Think about it—if William were to acknowledge that child, we would become family. Doesn’t that sound fantastic?"

Samantha clenched her fists on top of the table and hissed, "Is money the only thing you want from me, Mr. Sanson?"

Jason nodded. "The money I paid for your abortion and the money I paid you to get out of our lives. Combined, it was quite a big sum."

It had been a substantial amount, but with the debt she had, she had to say goodbye to that money the same day she received it. Moreover, the so-called "junkie boyfriend" whom Jason had just mentioned was actually sent to Samantha by William himself to watch over her and make sure she didn’t do anything rash. She had no choice but to give most of her money to him too, to pay for his booze and drugs.

Her body tensed even more.

"I don’t have that kind of money now."

"I don’t care. You lied, which means I paid for nothing. I need that money back as soon as possible, or else."

"How the hell am I supposed to get that kind of money?"

Jason placed his hands on the table, grabbed a steak knife, and twisted it between his fingers as if giving the woman a warning. His lips curled into a smirk.

"Don’t you have a sugar daddy now? Richard Clark is a very wealthy man. Ask him for money; I’m sure he won’t be able to resist your charms."

Samantha felt a surge of offense at his words. It was true that she had approached Richard on purpose, knowing he secretly liked her when they met at university. But what she wanted from him was not the same thing she had wanted from William Sanson. Now that she had learned her lesson, she wanted more.

"This is not that kind of relationship," she retorted.

Jason burst into laughter once again. "There’s no way it’s not that kind of relationship, Sam. All your relationships are ’that kind.’ You’re just working harder because you want to replace his wife. That’s why he must be enough of a moron to give you whatever you want."

Samantha decided to try another approach.

"It is precisely because Richard is in love with me that you should be careful, Mr. Sanson. He has more than enough connections to protect me from you."

Jason finally grew tired of her games. He leaned over the table, narrowed his eyes, and lowered his voice, sending chills down Samantha’s spine as he replied, "Know your place, Samantha. If you want to become his wife, you need to be careful. I’m giving you a week to think this over. If I don’t get a satisfactory answer from you by then, you’re finished."
