The Dramatic Crown Princess Wants to Poison Me!-Chapter 13: Collision
Huangfu Jingchen asked, "Do you have money?"
Xia Wenjin seemed unconcerned about the issue and said, "Let’s eat first!" Then, truly like a host, he enthusiastically served Huangfu Jingchen wine and food.
Huangfu Jingchen was wary; could this guy be trying to tamper with the food or use an excuse to leave first, leaving him to face the embarrassment of dining and dashing?
This time he won’t succeed!
He squinted at Xia Wenjin and said, "It’s been three days, right?"
Xia Wenjin looked up, confused, and asked, "What three days?"
Pretending!
Huangfu Jingchen reminded him, "Our bet!"
Xia Wenjin glanced at him sidelong, "Isn’t Young Master Huang bad at math? Today hasn’t passed yet, has it? After today, it will be three days!"
Huangfu Jingchen was angry; if he hadn’t tracked this brat down, would he have appeared on his own to repay the silver? And still with a look that seemed to suggest he was looking at an idiot, what was that supposed to mean?
This time there’s no way he’s letting this kid renege on his debt!
When the bet’s time was up, if this kid dared not honor it, then he would resort to drastic measures!
As the two stared each other down, a commotion erupted outside.
Huangfu Jingchen looked out and saw a scattering crowd, chaotic. Xia Wenjin turned his head and asked, "Shopkeeper, what’s going on?"
There weren’t many customers in the shop, so the shopkeeper had time. He waved his hand and said, "Young master, lower your voice. It’s Miss Wang from Lord Wang’s family passing by!"
Xia Wenjin whispered, "Who is Lord Wang?"
The shopkeeper said, "Lord Wang is the Prefectural Governor, the highest official here. His daughter is like a princess; no one dares to offend her!"
Huangfu Jingchen’s expression turned slightly cold; the daughter of a mere Prefectural Governor, what kind of princess is she?
Xia Wenjin didn’t care about that, instead becoming more curious and asking, "So she’s very wealthy, then?"
The shopkeeper said, "Naturally!"
The Governor Mansion is the wealthiest in all of Yuqing County!
The shopkeeper gave Xia Wenjin a look, then glanced at Huangfu Jingchen, suggesting modestly, "Why don’t you two young masters change seats?" Their seats faced the entrance, and Miss Wang’s carriage would certainly see them when passing by. With how the two of them looked, they might run into trouble.
Xia Wenjin asked curiously, "Why change? It’s fine here!"
The shopkeeper hesitated but ultimately didn’t dare to say more and muttered, "Well, enjoy your meal, young masters!"
The shopkeeper thought, with the carriage curtains drawn, perhaps these two young masters won’t be so unlucky! Then he retreated to the kitchen, not disturbing their meal.
Miss Wang’s carriage was quick, and at that moment, a small dog suddenly dashed into the street. A little child chased after it, shouting, "Xiaowang, come back, don’t run!"
The child caught up with the dog, just picking it up, when the carriage was upon them. Whether startled or overawed by the approaching carriage’s imposing momentum, the child stood there with wide eyes, forgetting to run.
There were cries of alarm around, yet the carriage showed no sign of stopping, about to trample over the child when suddenly a man dashed forward, scooping up the child, and both tumbled to the ground.
The horse was spooked, veering off and causing the carriage to lurch, a woman’s shrill screams emanating from inside.
Servants from the Governor Mansion shouted and cursed the man, some even starting to kick and punch him.
The rescuer was the child’s father. He shielded the child, crying out in pain as he was beaten, while onlookers felt sympathy and outrage but no one dared to intervene.
Suddenly, someone shouted, "Get back!"
Two people descended from the carriage, one in emerald green clothing with an unremarkable appearance but clad in gold and silver, exuding opulence—likely the Miss Wang from the Governor Mansion. Beside her was a maid with sharp eyes and harsh expression.
The household servants hurriedly stepped aside.
The air resounded with a ’swish’, as a whip cracked. With a ’snap’, the man screamed, the whip with its barbs tearing his clothes, leaving a bloody stripe.
One lash followed another, beating the man until he rolled, his body crisscrossed with whip marks.
The whip was wielded by Miss Wang.
Filled with rage, her gaze was vicious. One whip missed, and she swung again. Her movements were smooth and practiced—clearly, she was well-versed in this and thoroughly enjoying it!
The maid added to the abuse with harsh curses, "Foolish wretch, daring to collide with our young lady’s carriage! You must have a death wish!"
The Prefectural Governor’s daughter was named Wang Wan’er, though her name suggested gentleness, her temperament was quite opposite. Each time a whip landed on the man, her excitement increased, the cruel pleasure in her eyes more pronounced.
The screams mixed with the child’s cries reached the small tavern.
Just as Wang Wan’er was about to swing her whip again, her wrist suddenly stung, gripped firmly by someone.
Someone dared to stop her? Wang Wan’er struggled, but the hand was like an iron vice, only squeezing tighter. Furious, she turned to see who it was.
Her maid already scolded indignantly, "Impudent! Who do you think you are? Release my lady at once!"
Xia Wenjin flung Wang Wan’er’s hand away aggressively, moving forward to help the father and son up. The man, covered in whip marks, didn’t dare say a word, quickly picking up his child and stumbling into the crowd.
The servants regained their senses and immediately surrounded Xia Wenjin.
They drew their knives and charged at Xia Wenjin. The crowd gasped and scattered.
Seeing this situation, Huangfu Jingchen quickly came forward to stand in front of Xia Wenjin.
Xia Wenjin chuckled, "Brother Huang, standing by me at this moment isn’t the smartest move?"
Huangfu Jingchen retorted coldly, "Shut up!"
"That’s the daughter of the Prefectural Governor, are you insane?"
Huangfu Jingchen glanced at Xia Wenjin, "I wager you can’t repay my silver today anyways. After today, you’ll be mine, and no one will take you away!"
Xia Wenjin smirked, who’s yours? But if Huangfu Jingchen wanted to get involved, she didn’t mind. Though he was a wealthy young master, his skills weren’t bad; dealing with these servants should be no problem.
Their exchange was brief, but the aggressive servants didn’t care who Huangfu Jingchen was, and their knives were about to strike him when Wang Wan’er yelled, "Stop, stand down!"
The servants quickly stepped back.
The maid chimed in, "Miss, this person is so bold, it seems he doesn’t want to live. Miss, do you want to handle this yourself? Yes, whipping them to death would be much more satisfying!"
Wang Wan’er was originally furious, especially after Xia Wenjin grabbed her wrist and painfully so, but when her eyes fell on Xia Wenjin, she was stunned.
