The Eldest Daughter of a Rural Family-Chapter 610: Extravagant Confession (3)_1
Chapter 610: Chapter 610: Extravagant Confession (3)_1
Pei Qian had no interest in playing with them! But, recalling her eldest sister’s words and seeing how her brother Wendong had already begun to gather followers, she didn’t want to end up just getting married, having kids, and cooking at home. She wanted to run a business and earn money, needing her own loyal personnel. Forcing down her displeasure and discomfort, she let them in, taking them out to pick sweet potato leaves and bringing them home to steam or stir-fry the stems.
When Yang Boyan came to bid farewell, he saw her surrounded by a bevy of girls and couldn’t help but laugh, "It seems wealth truly moves people’s hearts, even Little Chili has her admirers!"
Pei Qian was quite irritated when she heard this. Originally, she had thought those people approached their family with ill-intentions, eyeing the benefits. She only socialized with them for the sake of gaining helpers, yet he dared to make such a comment, "Your mouth, if it’s not eating something, should be sewn shut with needle and thread!"
Yang Boyan’s smile shifted, playful, "Then make me something delicious to shut my mouth! After all, I am leaving soon."
"Good riddance!" Pei Qian huffed, "And you have the audacity to ask for a parting gift, have you no shame!?"
"I don’t want a parting gift! I’ve got more silver than I can spend; why would I want to hoard money? Just prepare some mahjong biscuits and snacks for me to take on the road!" Yang Boyan pleaded with her.
Pei Qian thought of the gifts he had given her and pursed her lips, "There are still some mahjong biscuits left at home; I’ll give you a few!"
Yang Boyan gave a bow with a smiling face as a way of thanks.
When the time came for his departure, Pei Qian handed him a bag filled with mahjong biscuits and snacks such as peanuts and melon seeds.
Yang Boyan, holding the bundle, took a whiff, and his smile brightened, "These biscuits really are fragrant! It’s a pity you only sell them here; it would be great if I could eat them wherever I go!"
"Be content with what you have!" Pei Qian said bluntly.
Yang Boyan looked at her with a meaningful gaze, pulling out a small box, "Consider this a farewell gift, chosen with care, especially suitable for you! Open it later!"
Pei Qian was suspicious until she later opened the little box, which surprisingly contained a pair of red coral Little Chili earrings and a red jade Little Chili pendant.
"Quite fitting indeed." Pei Qin turned to Mo Heng and spoke.
Pei Qian’s face turned red, then darkened, and finally turned purple, "Giving me these red chili pieces is like saying I have a bad temper and am not likeable, isn’t it!? Detestable!"
"This gift is actually quite nice! Especially these red coral Little Chili earrings, so lifelike!" Pei Qin laughed heartily.
Pei Qian shouted at her in irritation, telling her not to laugh.
However, after her laughter subsided, Pei Qin turned back to consult with Mo Heng, intending to look into this Yang Boyan’s background and origins.
Before the wheat harvest, Pei Qin went to the county to deliver goods and to take care of other matters. She brought Pei Qian along and went to the trafficker’s, telling her to choose a maid for herself, "Whether you pick one or two, decide for yourself, and make your choice!"
When Pei Yuan got married, Pei Qin gave her two stout maids as helpers, but no young maids were purchased.
Seeing the purpose was for her to select a personal maid, Pei Qian turned to look at her, "Eldest sister..."
"What are you looking at? Hurry up and choose!" Pei Qin stood with her arms crossed, leaning against the doorpost.
Pei Qian’s gaze shifted towards a line of gaunt young girls and started to seriously make her selection.
Pei Qin wasn’t worried about her ability to choose, as this little sister was far more critical than she was.
After a barrage of questions, Pei Qian narrowed down to four candidates. Debating which two to discard, as the remaining two did not seem as suitable, she thought for a moment, then turned to ask Pei Qin, "Eldest sister! Can I buy all four?"
Pei Qin’s mouth twitched, "Aren’t you the one who advocates frugality..." The usually frugal girl was asking for four maids; was she preparing to indulge for once?
"I need them all for their work! I’m buying them for labor!" Pei Qian had weighed her decision; these girls all had calluses on their hands, and they were honest and obedient. With their indentures in her grip, they would have to listen to her, and dare not double-cross her, or else she would show them who’s boss!
