Chapter 579 -579: The Alliance’s Defeat and Defeating Them One by One

An agreement that was neither cordial nor friendly, but apparently had to be formed, was reached on the Tableland of Hope. At least in the eyes of the Wilderness God, the God of Underworlders was intimidated by the exaggerated depictions and felt compelled to join the alliance.

In the eyes of the Wilderness God and a few other True Deities within the alliance, the average combat power of the Dicavians had already surpassed the Humans, but they lacked their own power system and did not have powerful individuals. They had become a very qualified cannon fodder race, suitable for using to fend off the Heart-stealing Demon God-led Allied Forces.

Lin Xiao, who was very sensible, dispatched an incarnation along with over five hundred thousand elite Dicavian troops to join the Allied Forces, a number greater than the entirety of the alliance itself.

If there was one thing the Cave-dwellers had in abundance, it was numbers. Lin Xiao now had up to a billion Dwarf believers. After King Onard of the Dicavians established the Dicavian Kingdom, he began to form regular legions. Each legion comprised five hundred thousand, with eight front-line battle legions and two main legions in the entire kingdom, and several dozen local defense legions, each numbering around a hundred thousand. All combined, the kingdom’s forces approached ten million.

This was a massive number incomprehensible to other races. Among the many races of the Dark Territory, except for the Zoel and Goblins, no other race boasted such large populations.

Today, there are more than two hundred million of the fourth-generation Cave-dwellers living in the region around the King City at the center of the Tableland of Hope. If needed, the kingdom could mobilize twenty to thirty million militia at any time.

With enough preparation time, it could mobilize hundreds of millions of Dicavians for war, an astonishing exaggeration.

And these numbers were only a part of the entire Dark Territory’s population of Cave-dwellers. Even now, the earliest missionary groups had traveled tens of thousands of kilometers into deeper layers of the second level of the Dark Territory, continuously discovering remote Cave-dwelling tribes and converting them into fourth-generation Cave-dwellers, spreading the faith of the Guardian God throughout these lands.

It is said that there are several billion Cave-dwellers living throughout the Dark Territory.

Some say the total number of Cave-dwellers in the Dark Territory might even reach a hundred billion. Lin Xiao did not know whether this was true or not, but one thing was certain: the area now explored, which was comparable in size to the total area of earth, could fully accommodate several billion Cave-dwellers if developed.

Previously, the Cave-dwelling tribes were so small and scattered, yet there were so many of them. Now, with each tribe expanding and centralizing, it wouldn’t be excessive to accommodate several times their population.

With the addition of the God of Underworlders to this chaotic battle, a five hundred thousand-strong Cave-dweller legion with average combat power joined the fray, gradually turning the tides of the battle in favor of the beleaguered alliance. This was the case on both the mortal battlefield and the True Deity level, and the situation within the Dark Territory once again reached a stalemate.

Yet, the deadlock was soon broken. In the sixth year since Lin Xiao’s entry, the Spider God suddenly perished.

Without the True God’s bindings, over a dozen legendary-level, highly intelligent giant spiders strayed from the battlefield.

On the mortal level, Legends were absolute top-tier combatants, and any single one of them could influence a small to large scale, or even a major battle. Their allied forces were able to resist the opposition because these dozen legendary-level giant spiders had played a crucial role.

Now, as they had left the battlefield, the strength of the Alliance of Gods, led by the Ogres, plummeted.

To add insult to injury, not long after, the Heart-stealing Demon God refined the Divinity of the Spider God and acquired the Godhood of spiders, retrieving this group of legendary arachnids.

The defectors, who were originally their strong assets, caused the battle situation to collapse, leading to a crushing defeat of the allied forces in a decisive battle.

The True God level too, saw a victor. Four incarnations of deities perished on the spot, leaving only Lin Xiao and the Wilderness God’s incarnations to flee.

From that point on, the alliance existed in name only, as its members retreated to defend their own territories.

Following a great victory, the Heart-stealing Demon God reorganized his troops and proceeded towards the first layer of the Dark Territory, heading straight for the Ogre God’s Kingdom, seemingly prepared to eliminate the Ogre God, the strongest and most resistant adversary first.

The Allied Forces broke through with unstoppable momentum into the Ogre Kingdom’s interior, roughly triangulating the location of the Ogre God’s Sanctuary thanks to previously collected clues and the testimonies from some original believers of the Ogre God who had converted faiths.

Like most True Gods without a Divine Realm, the Ogre God too had expended a significant amount of Divine Power to create a Sanctuary suitable for the converted souls of deceased believers to live as Prayers.

In fact, nearly all True Gods without a kingdom have a Sanctuary where the souls of their followers can reside.

Although the Power of Faith provided by Prayers is far less than when they were alive, Prayers are immortal and do not need sustenance, so they can continually pray and provide the Power of Faith. If their numbers are large enough, they can be a substantial source.

Some True Gods who have lived long enough have accumulated so many Prayers that the Divine Power they provide alone might sustain their God Level.

Of course, such circumstances are very rare; true Gods with that many followers shouldn’t be struggling so miserably.

In the Sanctuary of the Reptile God, this True Deity had already awakened, as his Incarnation had perished once the alliance had been defeated. Right now, he lay prostrate on his divine throne, lost in contemplation.

The True Body of the Reptile God was a powerful Poisonous Lizard that had been enshrined into Godhood by the faith of mortals and Lizardmen. His followers included various intelligent reptiles and Lizardmen, as well as a minority of Humans and Other Races. Not only in the Dark Territory, but there was also a vast Lizardman community above ground that worshipped Him.

The sprawling Sanctuary was filled with all sorts of reptiles and Lizardmen Prayers. Limited by the intellect of a Poisonous Lizard, even upon Divine Enthronement, his intelligence did not extend far. He had no particular plan for his Sanctuary, and the living conditions for his followers were extremely chaotic, often resulting in conflicts among Lizardmen and other followers.

Usually, the Reptile God delighted in watching the bloody strife among his followers, but today, He was not doing so.

At this moment, the dire situation made the God of Reptiles contemplate whether to abandon everything in the Dark Territory and return to the surface.

Although relinquishing the worship of the Dark Territory would certainly cause a drop in his God Level, it was still better than death.

Just then, the God of Reptiles, who had been lost in thought in the center of the Sanctuary, suddenly looked up at the Void. Swiftly, a ripple spread across the Dome of the Sanctuary, forming a portal of light through which a figure shrouded in intense divine light emerged.

“God of the Underworlders? What are you here for?”

The God of Reptiles asked in surprise.

But in less than a second, his expression changed drastically and he clamored to his feet:

“Your strength? You….”

At this moment, Lin Xiao made no attempt to conceal the fact that this Incarnation of his had reached the Fifth Level, higher even than the True Body of the God of Reptiles. Anyone with a normal brain would know that this meant his True Body’s Divinity surpassed Level Ten, qualifying him as a being with Medium Divine Power.

The astonishment in the heart of the God of Reptiles was indescribable, but even more overwhelming was fear.

Even if his true form was a lizard with limited intelligence, he knew that an Incarnation with Medium Divine Power forcing its way into his Sanctuary was definitely not a good sign.

Indeed, Lin Xiao had not gone through all this trouble to find the Reptile God’s Divine Realm just for a casual visit—he was here to kill Him.

Realizing this, the God of Reptiles opened his mouth and a beam of divine light shot towards the central divine throne. An invisible wave of rules spread out quickly from the throne, and Lin Xiao felt a pressure bearing down on him. He swayed slightly but continued to stand firm in the air.

“Is this all?”

The suppression from the rules was pitifully weak; he didn’t even need to expend Divine Power to analyze them and could simply withstand it on his own.

But that was to be expected, considering His opponent was merely an animal that had been Divinely Enthroned, with low intelligence, and this was only a Sanctuary, not a Divine Realm. The woven rules couldn’t be that strong and probably included only basic rules like forbidding flight, slowing movement, teleportation bans, flight restrictions, banishment, and imprisonment— nothing high-end.

With this in mind, Lin Xiao felt at ease. He stretched out his hands and reached into the void, causing ripples as his fingers clashed with the Sanctuary Rules, sparking a bright display.

As he unleashed a Burst of Divine Power, he tore a massive rift in the space itself. Armored Dwarf warriors poured in, clashing in a tumultuous melee with the Lizardmen Prayers converging from all directions.

While he wasn’t afraid of these Prayers, he couldn’t afford to be careless.

Prayers within a Sanctuary or Divine Realm can resurrect indefinitely. Though they are much weaker after being transformed by the Sanctuary or Divine Realm, they carry traits of the Divine Realm, so even the weakest among them can have an effect on a True God with their attacks.

Every True God’s Sanctuary or Divine Realm amasses a vast number of Prayers. Without minions to hold them off, an endless, relentless stream of Prayers could gradually wear down an Incarnation of a True God.

Prayers are not only a source of Divine Power for a True God but also a major defensive barrier within the Divine Realm. Unless there’s a massive disparity in strength, any attack on the Divine Realm of an enemy deity must involve a substantial amount of cannon fodder.

As the ceaseless Dwarf army invaded the Sanctuary to fend off the Prayers, Lin Xiao looked up at the God of Reptiles guarding the center of the Sanctuary and smiled slightly. He took a step forward.

Soon, thunderous roars and the infuriated bellows of the God of Reptiles echoed throughout the Sanctuary.

Yet, such a scene was not unique to the Sanctuary of the God of Reptiles. At the same time, the Sanctuaries of the Bull-headed Man God, the Slime Monster God, the Dark Shadow God, and the Subterranean God were also simultaneously invaded by an Incarnation of Lin Xiao and a vast army of Dwarfs.

At this moment, Lin Xiao seized the opportunity when the Heart-stealing Demon God, leading the Incarnations of his subordinate deities, attacked the Sanctuary of the Weaker Divine Power Ogre God. He took the risk to dispatch five Incarnations to assault their True Bodies.

This was the prime moment; if he allowed the Heart-stealing Demon God to defeat the Ogre God, His power would rapidly swell, and with the additional strength from the subordinate gods and inheritance of the Lord of Darkness’s Divine Realm, Lin Xiao would face a troubling adversary.

These subordinate gods were of Weak Divine Power, their Incarnations either damaged or sent forth with the Heart-stealing Demon God’s campaign. Now, their Sanctuaries were left only with their True Bodies, which Lin Xiao affirmed were no match even for his single Incarnation.

After all, he had now advanced to a being of Medium Divine Power; his Incarnation was stronger than their True Bodies. Coupled with the boost from the Ancient God’s Divinity, even though he had only just ascended to Medium Divine Power, many who had long held that rank could not defeat him.

However, his opponents did not perceive things the same way. Confirming that only one Incarnation had invaded his Sanctuary, the Bull-headed Man God drew a Demigod Artifact axe and raised it high, bellowing furiously:

“Come then, taste the mighty axe of Almafa!”
