Chapter 39: The Demon Sweeps the Mortal Realm(2/2)

"Ahh! Everyone run!"

"Oh heavens! There’s a killer!"

Panic surged through the village like fire through dry grass.

Jiang Chen retrieved a colorless gourd from his storage bag.

The Blood Devouring Gourd was a low grade treasure used by alchemists and demonic cultivators alike. He had brought it from the market for 150 spirit stones.

He uncorked it.

With a single thought, blood essence surged upward. Red mist poured from the corpse and vanished into the gourd. Within breaths, the old body shriveled into a dry husk.

Jiang Chen turned to the village.

Then the massacre began.

He moved like a phantom of slaughter.

A single punch shattered a man’s skull, bone fragments spraying like gravel. A backhand sent another flying into a wall, his spine snapping with a sound like breaking chopsticks.

Jiang Chen’s fingers suddenly closed around a woman’s throat, lifting her screaming body before crushing her neck with a flick of his wrist.

"Die! All of you die for me! Today, let the earth drink its fill and turn red!" Jiang Chen laughed without restraint and flung the corpse aside as he stepped forward to claim more lives.

A group of villagers crowded together, pushing and trampling one another in panic.

"Move!"

"Don’t push me!"

Jiang Chen kicked the side of a nearby house.

The wall burst apart as if struck by a siege hammer. Beams snapped midair, tiles shattered, and the roof collapsed, burying more than ten people beneath it. Blood seeped out between broken planks as muffled screams quickly went silent.

A man crawled out, half crushed, intestines dragging behind him.

"Help me... please..."

Jiang Chen expressionlessly stepped on the man’s spine. The pressure burst his organs through his mouth in a gush of blood and filth.

"Curse you, curse you demon, even as a ghost I will not forgive you!"

"Protect the children, take them away first, block him!"

"Why, why has this happened to us? Heavens are blind, heavens are truly blind!"

People ran aimlessly, tripping over corpses, crying for heavens which never answered.

Jiang Chen laughed coldly and drew his sword.

Three heads flew into the air together, faces still frozen in terror. Blood sprayed upward like rain, splattering across walls and bodies. The headless corpses stood for a breath before collapsing in different directions.

"I beg you. I beg you." A pregnant woman knelt, begging incoherently.

Jiang Chen snorted and crushed her skull underfoot.

Children ran.

But not far enough.

He seized one by the head and slammed it into a wall until it became pulp.

Another child screamed once before Jiang Chen drove his sword straight through his mouth, the tip bursting from the back of the skull. He kicked the corpse aside and cut down two more children in a single sweeping arc, their small bodies splitting apart at the waist.

None were spared.

Jiang Chen used no technique or spiritual essence, just pure brute force.

Blood tainted the ground.

Bodies piled up.

It was a situation of pure despair. Some prayed, others cursed. Most were simply frozen in terror. There were even a few who tried to resist.

"Just fucking die!" A miner raised his pickaxe.

Jiang Chen casually swung his sword and the man was bisected in an instant.

A sealed cultivator tried to resist. Jiang Chen grabbed his jaw and tore downward. Flesh ripped like paper. The scream cut off into a wet gurgle as the man collapsed, throat hanging open.

Jiang Chen laughed loudly as he whipped up a storm of flesh and blood, the Myriad Strength Tiger Bone Essence roaring within him. To the pitiful mortals, he was an incarnation of nightmare, a blood god walking among them.

Dark clouds of concealment hid his face, only making him more terrifying.

They could not see his expression, but they could feel the inevitability of his presence.

In less than an hour, the village was dead.

A thousand families.

Gone.

Corpses lay scattered like pebbles, blood pooling into shallow rivers. Jiang Chen opened the Blood Devouring Gourd once more, calmly drawing blood essence from corpse after corpse.

’Hm. This should be enough to refine a blood token. But is it enough to enter the black market. Should I kill some more..?’

His eyes flickered thoughtfully.

’There are still two weeks left. I need not rush.’

The solution to the inability to sell his resources had finally presented itself.

The black market.

What better place to sell than this.

Jiang Chen had known of the black market for years. It was a place controlled by demonic cultivators and rogue cultivators, where all transactions that could not be conducted openly found their place.

Though he had long been tempted by it, his inadequate strength and limited influence at the time had prevented him from learning much. Now times had changed, and so had he. With the power he possessed and the connections he had cultivated within the sect, it took only a little digging before he understood that entry to the black market required a blood token.

The creation of a blood token was not particularly difficult. One required a Blood Sucking Jade, some fresh blood, and a blood-sealing talisman, which was not hard to obtain.

This refinement method was fairly common knowledge among cultivators. As whenever righteous disciples slew demonic cultivators, they would almost always find a blood token upon the body. Jiang Chen now finally understood the reason to this.

He willed his clones.

At the four formation nodes, they struck simultaneously, destroying the stone slabs. The formation dome shattered with a thunderous crack.

The wolf horde surged in.

They fell upon the corpses, tearing flesh, howling in frenzy. Jiang Chen waited until they were drunk on blood.

Then he dashed through the beasts like a wisp of ink, killing a dozen or so in passing before vanishing into the mountains.

No trace was left.

Only a massacre blamed on demonic beasts.

He was careful. He used a concealment talisman on himself and scattered several disordering scent materials. He took no resources from the village that might arouse suspicion.

He had even placed a clone in the sect market earlier, ensuring a solid alibi.

When the sect investigated, they would find only a ruined village and the aftermath of a beast horde.

Nothing more.
