Chapter 126: 126

With the vines flying at her, Michelle sneered coldly and whipped her chains around her, blocking every single vine that tried to graze her. At the same time, she turned her gaze to the plant body, gripping the handle of her sickle.

"I knew you would play dirty..." she hummed as she lifted the sickle high above her and slashed it towards one of the plant’s wounds, stabbing it right into it, going even deeper than when she first made the wound.

The corrosive liquid continued splattering around, but she had her soul energy to protect her, so except for the wound on her back, she remained untouched as she pushed the blade of the sickle deeper and deeper into the plant’s body.

Soon, not even caring if the plant was pretending or not, Michelle stood above it. It looked like it was about to wither, its vines lying weakly on the ground.

Michelle closed her eyes for a split second before swinging her sickle at the plant for one of the last times, severing most of its vines. And the last swing went under the plant, severing it from its roots.

That was the first time Michelle had encountered a plant-based beast, so she didn’t know whether it had something like a brain. But from the knowledge she had about plants from her past life, if the part of the plant above the ground was severed from the roots, that part would die. As for the roots, depending on the type of plant, they might regrow a new plant, or they might die. That also depended on how damaged the roots were when severed from the rest of the plant.

But with plant beasts, Michelle was clueless. The times when she went through Rivenaar’s memories, she hadn’t focused on the beasts he had fought, so she didn’t even know if he had ever fought a plant beast. But given his long life and the fact that plant beasts weren’t rare, he must have encountered some.

With a sigh, Michelle watched the plant body fall to the side. She had already cut off all its vines and roots, so she didn’t see anything it could attack her with, but she didn’t rule out the possibility that the whole plant was controlled by a part that was underground, which meant she still had to be careful about any attacks from below.

Closing her eyes, she decided to do something she had never tried before. She was going to create the net to sense her surroundings, but not with spirit energy, since she couldn’t use it because of the poison, but with her soul energy. She wanted to see the state of the roots underground.

So, she slowly started moving her soul energy to her palms as she squatted down and placed her hands on the ground. When the soul energy was right under her skin, she extended it into thin, nearly translucent threads and let them burrow into the ground. She had to fully concentrate as the thin threads moved deeper and deeper into the soil, also moving towards the place where she had cut the plant off from its roots.

Once there, the threads started tracing along each root, trying to look for something that could be controlling the plant.

Just when Michelle found something, a deafening roar caused her concentration to slip. She instantly retracted the soul energy and stood up, her purple eyes opening. She turned around and saw what she had been expecting.

"Anastasia, take them as far as possible!" she shouted as she summoned her sickle and a dagger.

Monsters and beasts had sensed the smell of her blood and were rushing at them in a frenzy. Michelle wasn’t worried about her safety. She knew she could survive, but she was worried about her unconscious friends. What if the beasts and monsters trampled them?

In an instant, she summoned Nyxaroth and Cold Flame from the contract space.

"Don’t use your spirit energy, and help Anastasia!" she ordered, and they quickly scrambled over to help.

Soon, Michelle was alone between the horde of monsters, all rushing at her. She had to constantly dodge, rolling on the ground in the mud. Without being able to use her spirit energy, she felt like she was missing a limb, because though she could block most attacks, some beasts still struck her on her wounded back, aggravating the injury inflicted by the plant. That caused more of her blood to spill, sending the monsters and beasts into an even bigger frenzy.

Rolling on the ground, Michelle dodged the jaws of a tiger-like beast, but she landed next to the paw of a huge vulture. The vulture raised its leg to scratch her, but she reacted quickly and stabbed into its paw, making it screech in pain. But she couldn’t rest, as the monsters around her were constantly jumping at her.

Because mud got into her wound, it wasn’t closing properly even though she had exceptional healing abilities, so her whole back hurt, making her grit her teeth, and the blood kept dripping down, constantly stimulating the monsters and beasts.

With her eyes turning such a dark shade of red that they looked black, Michelle jumped and summoned her Binding Chains, whipping them around herself chaotically, looking like an enraged lunatic.

The chains whipped around her so quickly that, for a while, the creatures couldn’t get close to her, so she quickly started treating the wounds on her back.

Well, treating.

From her spatial ring, she took out a bottle of water and a small bottle of disinfectant she had made in her spare time. She poured the water over her back, using her soul energy to speed up its flow so it would wash away all the mud in her wounds. Then, she created something like a cloth with her soul energy and poured the disinfectant on it. Finally, she moved the cloth to the wounds and let it wrap around them.

For a while, she left the cloth on the wounds before letting it disappear as she created a new cloth. She let that one wrap around her back and torso like a big bandage so it would somehow block out the smell of blood the monsters and beasts smelled, so they would slowly calm down.

With mud no longer in the wound, Michelle’s healing abilities could start working properly, and her wound started closing under the cloth very quickly. But the smell of blood still lingered, though it was getting thinner.

When the beasts and monsters woke up from their frenzy after the smell of blood got so thin they could barely smell it, the smaller ones wanted to flee, but the huge ones were enraged and started fighting.

Michelle realized the situation was dangerous and quickly ran to a nearby tree. She quickly climbed it, and when she no longer smelled the scent of the plant beast’s poison, she summoned her spirit energy and formed a small ice bridge in front of herself so she could go find her friends. She used ice that would quickly melt so the monsters and beasts couldn’t follow her.

But some were still able to do so. As she ran over the bridges she formed, some nimble monsters were able to keep up with her, attacking her from behind. Also, some flying beasts noticed her too and started flying after her. They were no longer after the scent of her blood. They were just enraged and wanted to take it out on her since she was clearly the cause of the chaos. They still remembered the sweet scent that drove them crazy.

But that was what the more intelligent creatures thought. The dumb ones just remembered that she had a sweet scent, and they wanted to smell it again, so they just rushed at her haphazardly.

Only the biggest monsters remained on the ground, fighting against each other, not caring about Michelle escaping. They were smart enough to know that though she was the cause of the frenzy, if they went after her and harmed her, another wave of chaos would come, and they didn’t like the feeling of being unable to control themselves.

With monsters after her, Michelle gritted her teeth and formed an ice slide, getting off the trees. On the ground, she formed an ice field all around her and took up a fighting stance, summoning ice spears all around her.

Soon, except for the flying creatures, all the beasts and monsters after her stepped onto the ice field, making her eyes gleam coldly.

She was enraged.

Her back was still stinging and aching, annoying her to the limit, and the fact that she wasn’t able to check the roots of the plant beast she had fought before the monsters appeared just made her even angrier. All that, coupled with her lunacy for fighting, turned her into an enraged being with nearly black eyes, bloodlust all around her.

When the creatures were on the ice field, she pushed her spirit energy to its limit, and spikes started forming beneath the monsters at a tremendous speed, stabbing through most of them. But the fast ones were able to dodge, letting Michelle see with which she would have problems. Since she relied on speed herself, facing a group of fast creatures put her at a disadvantage. She didn’t like it, but she had to deal with it.

Also, she still had the flying beasts above her. They were smart enough not to come down when they saw her sliding down on her slide, which showed that they had some strategic thinking. And the fact that they were up in the air made it so Michelle would have it difficult if she decided to fight them. And avoiding the fight wasn’t an option.
