The Evil Lord's Wife Has Spirit Blood-Chapter 297
Mare’s gaze locked on Alexander was obvious. Naturally, he noticed. But he remained passive, just watching what was about to happen.
Would the Soundless Beasts come or not?
Michelle also noticed Mare’s gaze on Alexander, but she didn’t want him to intervene. The desire to see the Soundless Beasts was only growing within her, especially after she saw how worried Mare and the rest were.
But for a long while, nothing happened, leaving her disappointed. Her wound closed up, and life returned to the forest as the sweet smell of her blood disappeared.
Disappointed, Michelle sat down on the ground, poking her finger into the dirt.
Her beasts and Tenether returned to her side, calming down.
It seemed the alarm was a false one.
Closing her eyes, Michelle leaned back until she lost balance and fell down, ending up lying on the ground. After being riled up only to be let down, she didn’t feel like doing anything.
And since there was nothing much for her to do at the moment, she decided to just laze around for a while.
With a wave of her hand, she sent Tenether and the rest into her space, leaving only Nyxaroth behind. He turned into a small black speck and retreated into her body.
Lying on the ground, Michelle started feeling drowsy. It was most probably a side effect from when the wave of infrasound hit her.
Yawning a bit, Michelle massaged her temples lazily, her gaze moving over the trees around her.
And then, she noticed something.
She didn’t move, but her right eye started showing a tint of red. She was getting excited.
Something moved behind the trees, clearly observing her, as if it was waiting for her to completely let her guard down.
Was that one of the Silent Bastards?
Most probably yes.
So Mare and the rest were right when they thought the Silent Bastards would appear. They just didn’t know how they would appear.
But Michelle finally understood.
If what she was seeing was really a Silent Bastard, the way the creatures operated was highly intelligent.
They waited for their victim to get tired and let their guard down before getting closer. Then, they would show themselves when the victim was no longer in a state to retaliate before striking.
But this time, the Silent Bastards had miscalculated.
Though Michelle looked like she was in no state to protect herself, and Alexander, Noctis, and Unlucien were hiding in the shadows so the Soundless Beasts didn’t notice them, in reality, Michelle was perfectly capable of protecting herself.
First, she could take on the shadow rabbit form and disappear.
Second, she could coat herself in void, and anything that touched her would get infected by Void Plague.
Third, she could use shadow essence to manipulate the shadow the creatures were hiding in to trap them.
And of course, since lying down, she had spread a sensing net of her soul energy all under the ground, so she could feel anything moving toward her.
The creature behind the tree was just outside the range, so Michelle couldn’t sense it, but she could feel something moving through the ground.
Sitting up, her eyes locked on the creature in the distance.
Instantly, the movement in the ground stopped, and the creature behind the tree froze.
If Michelle hadn’t been staring at it since earlier, she would have overlooked it. It had barely any aura, and it perfectly blended in with its surroundings, even though its color didn’t fit. It was using some kind of disguise skill.
But Michelle wouldn’t let herself be fooled.
Summoning her shadow essence, she made sure the creature didn’t see as she stretched a thin shadow from herself to the tree it was under. The shadow connected with the tree’s shadow, allowing her to get a hold of it.
The creature sensed that something was wrong and jumped out of the shadow.
That was when Michelle saw it in its full glory.
Like a human, it was standing on two feet and had two hand-like limbs, but it was taller than any human. It was at least three meters tall.
Another thing that set it apart from any human was its skin.
Unlike the smooth skin of humans, the creature’s skin was rough, with ridges all over. It looked like remnants of scales, like it used to have scales, but over time, they grew into skin, leaving some imperfections behind here and there.
And the color of the creature was clearly not human.
No matter how sick a human was, their skin would have some color. The skin of the creature was completely white, like it didn’t have any pigment.
Michelle glanced at the creature’s face. A wide open mouth filled with fangs, a hole instead of a nose, and a singular red eye above it.
If seen from a distance, someone could mistake it for a red Life Stone.
The creature didn’t have any hair, but the shadow it was casting seemed to have some. That was because the top of the creature’s head wasn’t smooth. It looked a bit like a mountain range, with sharp peaks and deep ridges.
That created the illusion in the shadow that the creature was a human.
Seeing it, Michelle was reminded of albinos, but only for a moment.
Then, she moved on to observing how the creature was acting.
After jumping out of the shadow, having sensed Michelle’s upcoming attack, it locked its gaze on her.
Just like Michelle was observing it, it was observing her.
Compared to the creature, she was small.
But there were also some similarities.
Her long silver hair was basically the same color as the creature’s rough skin. Her right eye was the same color as the creature’s eye.
And that seemed to capture its attention.
Seeing that, Michelle could reach a simple conclusion: the creature was aware of its own appearance, but it wasn’t sure what to do with someone with similar features. It must have never met another one of its kind.
And that led to another conclusion. If it was really one of the Silent Bastards, the only way for it to have not met a Silent Bastard similar to itself was if it was the leader creature, and the leader creature looked significantly different compared to other Silent Bastards.
Also, it seemed that groups with different leaders never interacted.
Seeing the momentary hesitation in the creature, Michelle let her shadow essence surge into the thin shadow she had created.
Quickly, she pushed it to the shadow behind the creature and had it stretch all the way to it.
When it was just enough, she quickly turned the shadow into Liquid Shadow.
Instantly, it coiled around the creature.
The creature lowered its head to look at the black coils restraining it before looking back up at Michelle.
Then, it didn’t do anything else.
At least, that was what it looked like to human eyes.
But Michelle had her sensing net spread out all across the ground, so she could feel what was really going on.
The creature commanded its minions in the ground to act.
With a smile, Michelle dragged her foot across the ground, leaving a trail of ice behind.
Turning around, she had it connect into a circle.
From there, she added more spirit energy into the ice circle, making it spread around her.
Usually, she could make the ice spread within a matter of seconds. Her control over her spirit energy was more than enough for that.
But Michelle chose not to.
She still didn’t know exactly how absorbing two Life Stones changed her. She already knew about some changes in her blood, but what about her spirit energy? It was highly unlikely that no changes had occurred.
Before absorbing the Life Stones, Michelle had to be careful about using her spirit energy, because people from the middle and higher realms could recognize her Spirit Soul Blood from it.
Then, what about after the change?
Would they no longer be able to recognize it? Or would the change be quite the opposite, allowing them to notice it even from far away?
She decided to be careful until she found out.
The creature fidgeted a bit in Michelle’s coils, clearly not liking how she had spread the ice all across the ground.
So it seemed its minions were unable to break through something like that to come out.
Or maybe the creature was unable to communicate with them through such a restriction.
Whichever was the case, the creature was clearly unhappy.
If someone looked at the situation from the outside, the creature seemed helpless against Michelle, but she wasn’t planning on letting her guard down. There was no knowing what a creature clad in mystery like the one in front of her could do.
Maybe it was pretending its helplessness so it could strike when Michelle wasn’t paying attention.
Knowing the situation could change at any moment, Michelle decided not to wait for the first strike.
Summoning her soul energy, she coiled it around her shadow essence connecting to the Liquid Shadow and had it spread across it until it reached the creature.
The creature could clearly feel the soul energy approaching it, and it instantly started struggling against the coils.
Its fanged mouth went wide as it tried to bite down on them.
But Michelle didn’t let it. She sped up the spreading process.
She knew the creature could just as well be acting, whether because it wanted to get in contact with her soul energy, wanted to exhaust her, or wanted to see the full extent of her powers, but that wouldn’t make her hesitate.
She would strike down hard.
