Chapter 288: Watching the Test (1)

Merlin and Luna walked together toward the building where Margaret lived.

When they arrived on the fourth floor, Margaret was sitting on the sofa, sipping a cup of tea.

As if sensing their presence, she opened her eyes and looked at Merlin with joy.

However, when her gaze shifted to Luna beside him, her expression immediately turned sour.

"You’re finally here, Merlin," she said as she stood up. "I thought you weren’t coming."

Merlin smiled faintly. "Of course I came."

Margaret seemed satisfied with his answer, then glanced at Luna with a playful look.

"So, you’re Luna Tharot? I didn’t expect you to come. Am I interrupting your time together?" she asked in a slightly teasing tone.

Luna narrowed her eyes, remaining alert. This was her first time meeting Margaret.

She had to admit, the girl was truly beautiful. Her long, wavy golden hair made her stand out effortlessly.

The aura of a noble young lady radiated from her. It was as if money held no value in her eyes.

It had to be said that Luna had finally met a worthy opponent in her battle for Merlin.

Maintaining her composure, she smiled faintly and replied casually, "Yes, I’m Luna Tharot. You must be Margaret Beethoven, right? Nice to meet you."

She extended her right hand.

Margaret glanced at her hand briefly before accepting the handshake. Their hands met, but their eyes burned with hostility.

This was not a simple introduction—it was a declaration of war.

Merlin watched the scene with a helpless expression.

’These two girls really have quite the fighting spirit,’ he whispered with a soft chuckle.

He didn’t mind their rivalry. As long as it stayed within reasonable limits and neither of them got hurt, he was fine with it.

They didn’t really know each other yet. Maybe by competing like this, they might actually grow closer.

"By the way, why did you call me here? Is there something important you want to discuss?" Merlin asked curiously.

He walked over to the sofa and sat down. Luna followed and took a seat beside him.

A servant moved to the corner of the room to prepare tea for them, while Margaret sat across from the two of them.

"Actually, it’s nothing too important. I just want to invite you to watch the test that’s currently underway. Are you interested?" Margaret asked, a playful glint in her eyes. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂

Merlin and Luna were slightly surprised and exchanged glances.

"Watch the entrance test for prospective students?" Merlin murmured, rubbing his chin.

He actually wanted to go. After all, Linda had asked him to keep an eye on Liora.

But he had already planned to spend time with Luna. It would be a shame to cancel it just like that.

After making his decision, he looked up and shook his head.

"Sorry, I won’t be watching the test. I want to go with Luna," Merlin said firmly, clasping Luna’s left hand tightly.

Luna couldn’t hold back her smile. She raised her eyebrows as if to say, See? Merlin prefers me over you.

The cup in Margaret’s hand froze midair. The corners of her lips twitched as irritation and jealousy surged within her.

But she quickly composed herself and took a sip of her tea.

"I understand. It’s fine. But I just want to tell you—if you miss it, you’ll definitely regret it," Margaret said casually.

"Regret it?" Merlin frowned. "What do you mean?"

"Well, actually, I have news you won’t believe, Merlin." Margaret smiled mysteriously. "Did you know? One of the participants in this test is... your sister, Catrine Clay."

Hearing this, Merlin’s eyes widened. His breathing grew uneven, and his heart began to pound.

"Catrine... you said? Is that true?" he asked eagerly.

Margaret nodded with confidence. "Of course. Why would I lie to you?"

Merlin fell silent for a moment, then took a deep breath and slowly exhaled.

"Then I believe you."

He turned to Luna and spoke gently, "Luna, can we postpone our date? I promise we’ll spend the whole day together tomorrow. How about it?"

His violet eyes shimmered with hope.

Luna showed no disappointment or anger. Instead, she smiled softly. "Okay, I understand. Let’s watch the test."

Coincidentally, she was curious about Merlin’s younger sister and truly wanted to meet her.

After all, Catrine had disappeared and never returned, so she had never met her—not even once.

Aunt Livia had also mentioned that if her engagement to Merlin were ever called off, Catrine would become his next fiancée.

Fortunately, she and Merlin had been sent back in time, so the broken relationship between them had disappeared and been replaced with a romantic one.

Still, she couldn’t lower her guard. A girl who had grown up with Merlin was clearly a threat to her—far more threatening than Margaret.

"Good. I knew you would agree," Margaret said enthusiastically.

She had expected Merlin to refuse. She also knew he and Luna had a date planned for later that afternoon.

That was why she had deliberately called him here and mentioned Catrine, ensuring their date would be ruined.

If Merlin knew what she was thinking, he would probably sigh deeply and say in annoyance, "Your plan is perfect."

"Well then, let’s watch the test. How are we going to do that?" Merlin asked impatiently.

He hadn’t seen Catrine in a long time. Of course, he had been monitoring her progress over the past two years through the epic-level camera artifact he had obtained back then.

Even so, he still missed his little sister and wanted to see her in person.

"I’ve prepared the device. Come with me," Margaret replied as she stood up.

Merlin was slightly confused but followed her lead. Together with Luna, he went down the stairs and stopped in front of a door on the third floor.

When Margaret opened the door, the sight inside immediately caught Merlin and Luna’s attention.

It was not a large room, but it was neatly arranged. A holographic screen stretched out before them.

"This... is a monitoring room?" Merlin muttered.

Although the world of The Lost Hero had a medieval theme, the field of magic was actually highly advanced.

Several modern-like devices already existed here, but they did not use electricity—only magic.

Even so, their functions were the same. One of them was the screen in front of them, similar to a monitor in the modern world.

The difference was that it used magic to project a stunning holographic display.

"Wait a minute... are we going to use this screen to monitor the test? Isn’t that forbidden?"

Merlin quickly realized this and looked at Margaret with hesitation.

As far as he remembered, monitoring the test like this was not allowed. The rules were clearly written on the tablet in the room.

"Hehehe..." Margaret let out a sly laugh, placing her index finger against her lips. "It is forbidden—but only for other students. The rule doesn’t apply to me."
