Chapter 386: Chapter 386 : Supressed desires (1)

Just as Alex emerged from the heavy door of the meeting room, wiping a faint smirk from his face, Evelyn was standing right in front of it—arms crossed, golden eyes locked on him like a hawk spotting prey.

The hallway light caught her golden hair, making it shimmer like threads of sunlight woven into waves that cascaded past her shoulders, framing a face flushed with determination and worry.

Her golden gown clung elegantly to her figure, the off-shoulder bodice embroidered with delicate filigree patterns that sparkled with every breath, the full skirt pooling slightly around her heels, paired with subtle gold hoop earrings and a thin choker that accentuated her slender neck. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

She looked every bit the noble beauty, fierce and vulnerable all at once.

Seeing Alex, she met his eyes intensely, voice steady but edged with emotion. "We need to talk. Now."

Alex looked toward her, a flicker of resignation crossing his features. He sighed inwardly. ’Just my luck. Can’t even catch a breath.’

After that, he plastered on a bright, disarming smile, leaning casually against the doorframe. "So Evelyn, short time no see. Whatever can I do for you? Banquet not exciting enough?"

Evelyn didn’t smile back. Without a word, she grabbed his wrist firmly—her grip surprisingly strong for her delicate frame—and started dragging him away down the ornate hallway, past tapestries of ancient battles and suits of armor standing sentinel.

She pulled him into a nearby empty side room, a quiet parlor used for private audiences—plush velvet chairs arranged around a low marble table, heavy curtains drawn over tall windows muffling the distant cheers from the banquet, a crystal jug of water and glasses on a sideboard the only occupants.

Alex didn’t resist, letting her lead him inside with an amused raise of his eyebrow, hands in his pockets.

Evelyn slammed the door shut and turned the brass key in the lock with a decisive click, ensuring no interruptions.

Alex opened his mouth. "Hey, why are you locki—"

She whirled on him, putting a single finger to his lips, her touch soft but insistent, silencing him instantly. Her golden eyes bored into his, inches away. "First answer my questions. No dodging. Is it true about us forgetting everything about you?"

Alex’s playful demeanor faded. He sighed heavily, running a hand through his silver hair. "So Aurora told you everything, huh. She sure can’t keep her mouth shut when it matters."

Evelyn’s expression tensed, brows furrowing, lips pressing into a thin line as her grip on his wrist tightened slightly. "So it is true... huh."

Alex nodded slowly, meeting her gaze steadily. "There were consequences for turning back time on such a major scale—a universal backlash, you could say. And now I’m paying for it. Everyone will forget me, like I never existed here."

Evelyn became speechless, golden eyes widening in shock. She released his wrist, stepping back as if slapped, hand covering her mouth. Words failed her, the weight sinking in— the man who’d saved world, now erasing himself.

Alex softened, reaching out to gently tuck a stray golden lock behind her ear. "If you’re worried, don’t be. It’s not gonna stay this way forever. I’m leaving to resolve this issue—find a way to fix this issue. So don’t make that sad face, okay? It doesn’t suit you. I really miss that expressionless face of your today."

Suddenly, completely out of her usual poised character, Evelyn’s face twisted with anger. She lunged forward, grabbing Alex’s collar with both hands, knuckles white, yanking him close enough that their noses almost touched. "You knew it would happen, didn’t you?!" she shouted, voice echoing off the stone walls. "You knew there would be consequences, but you still did it!"

"Why did you do that, huh? Why the hell did you not try to be selfish—just like you always are? Why!"

Tears started flooding her golden eyes, spilling over her lashes and tracing glistening paths down her cheeks.

Suddenly Alex grabbed her hands, prying them free from his collar firmly but not harshly. "I’m now tired of explaining myself to everybody!" he said in a loud voice, frustration boiling over. "First everyone... then Alicia... and now you too!"

"Who do you think I did it all for? I did it for you guys—so all of you would at least have a home to go back to, a world worth living in, alright!"

Evelyn didn’t back down, tears streaming faster, voice cracking. "And who asked you to think about us? Then you alone pay this huge price and act like some tragic hero!"

Alex shot back, eyes flashing. "Then what else? What do you want me to do, huh? Tell me! Tell me!"

Evelyn’s breath hitched sharply, chest heaving as she opened her mouth, trying desperately to speak—words tumbling silently in her throat, choked by sobs. She couldn’t form them, golden eyes pleading and furious.

Alex deflated, the fight draining from him. He sighed deeply, shoulders slumping, and sat heavily on the nearby four-poster bed with its silk duvet. "I only did what I thought at the moment was right."

"And sure, now I don’t care what happens to me. But now I have a goal, and I’m leaving to achieve it. That’s all there is to it—nothing more and nothing less."

Evelyn stood frozen for a moment, wiping her tears with the back of her hand. Composing herself, she picked up the crystal jug of water from the sideboard, pouring it with slightly trembling hands into a tall glass etched with palace crests. She handed it to him silently, eyes downcast.

Alex took it, drinking deeply, the cool water soothing his throat. "Thanks."

Evelyn sat beside him on the bed, expression downcast, voice barely above a whisper. "So... when are you leaving?"

Alex set the glass down, staring at the floor. "Today."

As evenyn nodded her head in response.

As Evelyn sat beside Alex on the edge of the silk-draped four-poster bed, her golden gown slightly rumpled from their earlier intensity, porcelain fingers twisting nervously in her lap.

The parlor’s heavy velvet curtains blocked the moonlight, casting soft shadows from a single flickering wall sconce that danced across her shimmering golden hair—loose waves framing her heart-shaped face, a few strands clinging to her damp cheeks.

She took a shaky breath, golden eyes still glistening from tears now mixed with resolve. "I have also asked Aurora repeatedly if there’s any way I can keep the memories of you."

She leaned closer, voice dropping to a pained whisper as she recounted the memory. "Aurora pulled me aside earlier today in the castle gardens, her silver hair glowing under the sun. I begged her—’Please, is there a spell, a ritual, anything?’

But she just shook her head sadly, placing a hand on my shoulder. ’Even if the moment you forget and I tell you about Alex again... it will be useless. You’ll forget immediately after, like a dream dissolving at dawn.

The princess will repeat no matter how many times I tell you—the curse rewrites your mind instantly.’ Her words hit like cold steel."

Alex whistled low, leaning back against the carved headboard, silver hair tousled. "Wow, that’s harsh. The universe—or whatever cosmic force is pulling the strings—is really going all in to erase me completely."

Evelyn sighed deeply, her full chest rising and falling under the embroidered bodice, golden eyes locking onto his with raw worry. "That’s why I’m so worried about you, Alex.

This is not some small matter. Becoming a god? Venturing into forbidden realms to challenge fate itself? That will not be easy—even if it’s you with all your power."

Her voice cracked slightly. "So can’t you just stay here? At least you’ll be safe that way, hidden in the palace shadows. Even if no one remembers you, I could maybe if you try... we could find ways."

Alex shook his head firmly, jaw set. "No way. That’s completely out of the question."

"Living like a ghost, wandering these halls unseen and forgotten? That’s never gonna suit someone like me. So don’t even think about it—I’ll go mad in a week."

Evelyn managed a small, bittersweet smile, lips curving softly. "I knew you would say something exactly like that. Stubborn as ever."

Suddenly, Evelyn changed the subject, scooting closer until their knees touched, her perfume—a mix of jasmine and warm amber—wafting subtly. "There is also something else I wanna ask... something that’s been eating at me."

Alex shrugged casually, arms crossed. "Knock yourself out. Shoot."

Evelyn lowered her voice to a husky murmur, golden eyes searching his face intently. "Why didn’t Alicia come today at the banquet? The grand hall was packed with nobles—but she was nowhere."

Alex’s breath hitched sharply, a subtle flinch as his fingers tightened around the empty crystal glass, knuckles paling. His casual facade cracked for a split second.

Evelyn continued softly, probing gently. "After all, it’s your last day here in the kingdom. As far as I know her—fierce, loyal Alicia—she wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world. Not a duel, not a war."

Alex tried to look away, gaze drifting to the locked door, silver hair falling over his eyes. "Maybe she wasn’t feeling well... caught some banquet chill or something."

He forced a hollow laugh, the sound echoing flatly in the quiet room, betraying his unease.
