The Faceless Billionaire Celebrity Wife-Chapter 306: Precautions...
Music Rec: Diamond Heart — Alan Walker ft Sophia Somajo.
"You won’t ask what the expensive joke I heard was?" he asked as he stepped onto the kitchen threshold. Seeing the candle lit table filled with food, his brows furrowed in confusion but he didn’t bother asking any questions.
Shikera approached him and linked her arms with his, pulling him over to the table as she talked, "That’s because you said it was nothing. What is it by the way?"
"That you are pregnant," he dropped the bombshell, feeling her arms which were wrapped around his, stiffen. He continued, "To say the truth, I almost believed it but I was quick to get a hold on myself—"
"Ethan..." Shikera interrupted him, her voice extremely low as different thoughts ran through her mind. Was she hearing things? It might be because she had imagined telling Ethan about her pregnancy countless times that was making her hear things? 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
"Yeah. You are shocked too, right? My wife can’t be pregnant and I would have to hear from a pair of busybodies," he replied. His gaze was fixed on her as he talked, examining her every reaction to his words.
"Ethan..." Shikera called again. She could not bring herself to say anything else. Or rather, she had no idea what to say.
"Yes? You don’t have to be that shocked by the joke," he said without a smile and slipped his arm out of hers. "Let’s just eat and get to sleep. You look tired and...I missed you so don’t let the joke pressure you."
He pulled one of the chairs back and was about to sit down, when her voice echoed behind him.
"It is not a joke, Ethan."
He paused for a second, a smirk starting to form on his lips as he straightened himself. How could he sit?
"You win, Kera," he deadpanned as he turned to face her. "You make the joke seem more realistic than the others did and I will give it to you for—"
"I said it’s not a joke, Ethan!" Shikera cut him off, "I...I really am pregnant."
The silence that accompanied her declaration was deafening, with either of them staring straight into the other’s eyes as if they were trying to determine what the other person was thinking.
Ethan broke it, demanding with a calm voice, "Tell me that was the reason you went to the hospital today, Shikera. Please...tell me you only just found out today and I’m the first person you are telling."
Shikera was quiet. All the rehearsals she had were proving to be useless at this point, so she decided to go with the flow and just answer his questions as it came.
"It’s 13 weeks, Ethan. I found out the week I left..." she trailed off, noticing how cold his eyes had become. "I could not tell you because I was trying to cut communication with everyone then."
Apart from his eyes which grew colder as the seconds flew by, Ethan gave no other reaction, thereby giving Shikera the opportunity to explain.
"I wanted to tell you when you came to the island but you said then that you don’t want babies. I barely managed to persuade you then, so I could not dump the news on you just like that. Then things kept happening and I had to stall telling you until now," she elaborated, her words coming out in a rush. Still receiving no reply from him, she turned around to pick up the contract she made him sign at the hotel room, convinced that he would understand her when she showed him that.
When she turned back, she saw him straightening out a crumpled paper.
"Eth—"
He cut her off with a question, totally unrelated to what she expected, "Did you know anything about this?"
Shikera raised her hand to take the barely straightened paper from him, her mind itching with curiosity. She only had to read the first two lines to know it was the contract she had heard her father and Chris talking about in the latter’s study room.
Glancing up at him, she asked, "Is this what was worrying you, Ethan?" A relieved smile was on her face, which gradually widened to a blinding one, confusing Ethan.
He hoped she wanted to tell him what was in the contract was a joke; that her doctor had lied to scare him; that she wouldn’t suffer any of those symptoms Krystal mentioned; and finally, that his efforts in trying to get doctors that could take up her case, would not go to waste.
Shikera beamed at the obvious confusion on his face, scurrying closer to him as she raised up the contract she had been holding.
"Here, I took precautions for that," she said, in a proud tone. "And that’s part of the reason I didn’t tell you I was pregnant earlier. I didn’t think you would find out about the contract they signed this early."
Ethan took the paper from her and read through it, his anger increasing as he read each sentence after the other. He exploded, seeing his signature at the lower end of the contract.
"What the fuck is this, Shikera? When did I sign this?!" he questioned.
Startled, the smile on Shikera’s face disappeared.
"What’s wrong...? You signed it at the hotel, remember? And you aren’t allowed to get angry since it’s my prize—"
"Are you seriously talking about that now, Shikera?! I asked what the hell you made me sign. I got you pregnant in return for your father’s share?!"
Shikera shook her head as fast as she could, denying his words.
"That would only be in the contract, Ethan. And this isn’t supposed to be valid, it’s just to nullify the one our fathers signed," she tried to explain, thinking that was what was angering Ethan. She added, "With this, my dad won’t be able to ask for yours or your father’s share."
Ethan chuckled mirthlessly, his hand combing through his already disheveled hair.
"Am I supposed to appreciate this, Shikera?" he asked seriously.
"No," she shook her head. "It’s my fault that I got pregnant after all, so i should take care of this in a way that wouldn’t affect you in the least bit."
"Really?" Ethan scoffed. Staring straight into Shikera’s hopeful eyes, he positioned his hands at the end of the contract and tore it into shreds.
Her eyes widening in shock at his action, Shikera lunged forward to snatch the contract from his hand, but the pieces were all that fell onto her hand.
