Chapter 319: 72 Hrs (4) Leaving With Him

Shikera waltzed out of the elevator into the secretaries hallway, taken aback by the quiet and empty place she met.

"Did I get off on the wrong floor?" she muttered beneath her breath, prepared to turn back and retrace her steps when a familiar voice reached her ears.

"If she had said she’s here for me, he would not be able to stop her from coming up. You think I should call her and ask her to do that?"

It was Ruth’s, and that was enough for Shikera to confirm Ethan was on the same floor. She walked down the hallway and when she got to the door, didn’t hesitate to push it open.

"Surprise!"

Ruth was the first to escape her seat and approach her. "Shikera?! I was just thinking to call you. How did you get up here?"

"Used my identity," Shikera replied, flashing a mischievous wink at her. She waved at Raymond and Enoch who had a serious expression on his face for the first time. He was probably working on something complex, she guessed. "Is anyone in there with him?"

"Who would be?" Ruthlyn replied. "You can go in but I beg of you, don’t leave him angry and let us bear the brunt."

Shikera shook her head, "Rest assured, Ruth. Angry or not, I won’t be leaving him. We are instead leaving here together."

"Good luck with that!"

"Thank you!"

The smile falling from her lips, Shikera continued on her way to the lone door at the other side of the room. When she was safe and completely out of Ruthlyn and the men’s view, she halted in her steps and looked down at herself.

Wearing ripped denim shorts and a white shirt which she tied at the waist, exposing her slightly visible baby bump, she was scared he would not even look her way the whole time. Forcing him to sleep with her the previous night had been a seduction strategy to get him to touch her but no, the man had just let her snuggle against him instead. And by the time she woke up this morning, he was long out of bed judging by the lack of warmth in the sheets beside her.

After the stunt last night, if he didn’t find her desirable in this clothes she was wearing, then she would give up.

She stepped forward, knocking on the door twice before pushing it open.

Ethan kept his gaze fixed on the chart before him, refusing to allow the new entrance into the room break his attention.

Thinking it was one of his assistants, he waited for the person to speak up but heard nothing.

"If there’s nothing to report, shouldn’t you be back at your desk working on the shares transfer process?" he asked, still without looking up.

"If it’s about the shares transfer to my dad, keep it on hold. It won’t be good to stress your employees for nothing," Shikera replied. She watched him slowly raise his head up to look at her, his brows raised in question.

"What are you doing here?"

"Picking up my runaway slave," Shikera deadpanned. Kicking off her heels—an action which did not go unnoticed by Ethan— she walked across the room to stand on the other side of the desk from him.

"Dressed like that?"

"Like what?" she blinked, feigning confusion.

"Don’t bother," Ethan stated. He stood up from the chair and walked around the desk to stand before her, "How were you able to get here?"

"I did something I have always wanted to do. Using the black card’s power against you," she replied, her gaze wandering around the office to settle on the chart he had been reading."That looks familiar, Ethan. What’s it?"

Without waiting for a reply, she reached over to pick it up, recognizing it immediately.

"What were you doing with my medical history charts, Mr ex-husband?" she asked, as she turned the pages slowly to read the new additions to the charts. She had never seen those pages previously but staring at it now, she could guess who it was from.

"Krystal and the doctors you hired, did they make this out from my present condition?" she asked.

"Obviously," Ethan replied. "It’s the exact reason why—"

Shikera sighed, running her hair through her perfectly styled hair. She could no longer bother to keep up her best look in front of him; it would turn out vain anyway.

"Please, Ethan. It was hard enough refusing you all these times, I don’t think I’d be able to do that one more time so please, do not ask me to get rid of our baby again."

"Exactly! That’s our baby, Shikera, not yours alone and not mine alone. You don’t get to decide—"

"I think I do," Shikera cut him off, taking a step backwards. "The baby is almost 16 weeks old and you never visited the hospital with me not even once! I do admit I made mistakes of not telling you soon enough but still...you know how scared I was when I decided to keep this baby? Everyone, including Krystal, told me to watch out for myself instead of the baby, but I held out! Want to know what was in my mind while I did that?"

"Shikera—"

"I was assuring myself; Keep it up, Kera, when you finally tell Ethan, you’ll be able to rest. He would readily shoulder those burdens for you but...well, it grew heavier after I told you. Krystal told me how scary and painful everything will be without filtering her words and you have no idea how scared I was. I rushed home to meet your comfort but every fucking time, I am met with your cold eyes and..." she paused to catch her breath, avoiding his eyes as she continued, "You wouldn’t even look at me. Your voice was so cold and I grew even more scared. I thought I could manage but then boom, you signed those divorce papers again and..."

"Calm down, Kera. I signed them because—"

"You could finally let me go, is that not it? I was anxious, almost pulling my hair out over the fear that you would find me unattractive when my belly gets too big but then, you went beyond my expectations."

"In what way?" Ethan asked.
