Chapter 332: Two Weeks Left

Every single person in the room turned to her, but Shikera didn’t flinch, her eyes alternating from one person’s face to another until she had looked in the eyes of everyone present.

"Will anyone answer me?" she questioned, "If I’m right... this might end with y’all trying to make a decision on my behalf; apparently I can’t. But if I were to, you know what my answer will be."

Jordan nodded, his face void of any form of emotion, "Yes, this will end with them having to chose who to prioritize. You...or the babies?"

"That was..." Shikera trailed off, her eyes widening as realization dawned on her concerning Jordan’s last few words. Or the babies? She whipped her head around to face Ethan. "We’re having babies? Not one but...?"

"Two," Ethan replied, "During the ultrasound scan yesterday, two heartbeats were detected instead of one."

Shikera’s jaws slacked in stupefaction. Lifting her hands to cup them over her mouth as if to stop herself from screaming, she was silent for minutes.

"I..." she sounded short of breath, when she finally regained her composure and voice, "This is two against one here. Ethan, you know what to chose, right? The logical... decision to take."

"There’s no logical decision here," Ethan disagreed, forcing her hand down from her mouth. Before she could argue with him, he pulled her up and turned to Jordan, "If I have to chose, then you’ll have to chose too. Your only biological daughter...or the woman you used to love, and apparently still love since you regard her as family."

His dark eyes sweeping around the lobby one last time, his hand tightened around Shikera’s as he led the way back to her private room. Their absence from the room had given the nurses the chance to clear off all gadgets and equipments Shikera won’t be needing anymore.

As they stepped into the room now, the monitor beside the bed was the only thing that could differentiate the space from a VIP hotel room.

"Ethan," Shikera called, as soon as the door slammed behind them.

"If it’s about what I told Jordan just now, then don’t ask. I don’t give a fuck what I’ll have to do, as long as you and our babies are kept safe, so don’t worry that I’ll be stranded trying to chose between you and them."

Shikera went silent. If he sorted everything out already, then what was she to do? Just wait?

"If that’s settled," she started, "How much time do I have left...until the surgery?"

"About that—"

The sound of the door opening interrupted Ethan, and he turned to the door to see Liam come in.

"We decided," he said.

"Decided on what?" Ethan asked, his brows arched in question.

"Two weeks. They diagnosed that’s the latest she can go without the surgery," Liam replied, "And she’ll have to stay here until then."

"I can’t leave? At all?!" Shikera exclaimed.

"We will find a way to get you out even if it’s for a short while," Ethan assured her, caressing the back of her head like one trying to soothe a restless kid.

His instant support of her leaving the hospital roused questions in both Shikera and Liam’s heart, but only the former had the courage to ask, "Why? Do you have something to show me outside here?"

"No!" Ethan’s reply was rather abrupt, "I just thought you’d be frustrated staying in the hospital for two weeks. There are also a lot of things I’ll have to sort out in the short time until then and I can’t leave you in here alone. It goes without saying that..."

"I’ll have to come with you," Shikera concluded, her lips stretching into a smile, "I guess I can manage with that."

"You have to."

Liam cleared his throat, drawing the attention back to himself once more.

"I just thought I should tell you that. I should eh...leave now," he said. His eyes softening, he turned to Shikera, "I’ll be back later to see you, Princess."

"See you!" Shikera beamed, stepping forward to hug him goodbye.

Crossing her hands behind her back, she waited until the door closed behind Liam before spinning on her heels to face Ethan.

"Now, where’s Esther? She was telling me an interesting story earlier before you interrupted us. Not like I’m not happy you did but...I can’t let that gossip pass me by just like that," she said.

Ethan shrugged, "Expected nothing less of a gossip show anchor, but you can only meet Esther when you’ve rested enough. I’ll have to talk to Jordan some more and get the exact details of the surgery."

"Perfect!" Shikera agreed, "We can plan our schedules according to what he says too. Know when I’m allowed to go out and how much time I’m allowed to stay out."

Tilting his head slightly sideways, Ethan’s eyes shrouded with indecipherable feelings as he stared at Shikera.

"What?" she asked with furrowed brows.

"Nothing," Ethan’ shrugged, "It’s just suspicious that you are being this obedient and I don’t know if I should be worried. Or...was my wife swapped out while you were unconscious?"

Shikera scoffed, "Your wife? As far as I know, we are divorced. And the 72 hours I laid claim on are expired now. We should have nothing to do with each other... right?" she asked, teasingly.

"Oh really?" Ethan’s gaze darkened, obviously not seeing anything funny in Shikera’s words. He stepped closer to her, slipping his arms around her waist to pull her towards him, "You don’t want to repeat that."

"Why not?" Shikera dared in a challenging tone, "I am not your—"

"Stop it," he interrupted her, his voice gradually turning icy. "Except..." he pulled her against his chest and leaned closer to her ear, fanning her lobes with his hot breath as he continued, "Except you want me reminding you what we did that sealed our deals as husband and wife. You are pregnant already anyway...the worse that could happen already did."
