Chapter 335: Live Show

Before either of them could reply her, Shikera heard a low whisper of her name from behind her.

"Miss Anderson? Oh my god! You are looking so good!"

While Maxwell and Skyler collectively sighed out loud, Shikera turned abruptly to see who it was that had called her, so she could guess why the person’s presence was affecting her companions.

But seeing who it was not only increased her confusion, but also increased her curiosity. The woman who had called out to her, and was now walking towards her with a wide grin on the face, was Team leader Sterling, the team leader of the finance department when she and Cyprian joined months ago.

The woman had never answered her greeting with a smile on her face, not to talk of approaching her first. And with a wide grin?? Why was everyone acting strange today?

"Team leader," she greeted with a small bow just like she used to do, pasting a formal smile on her face.

"Oh, you don’t have to, Miss Anderson! Ever since you left the finance department, this could pass as the first time I’m seeing you without any obstacles to prevent our meetup. I truly felt you absence!"

Shikera blinked, completely speechless. Not only did everything proceeding from the mouth of the woman before her sound like a lie, they also sounded like pure flattery. And...

"Wait, she just addressed me as Miss Anderson," Shikera.wonderef out loud, worry etched on her brows. She turned to Skyler, and from the look on the latter’s face, realization slowly dawned on her.

Ethan glanced at his watch and out the car simultaneously, his eyes growing a tad bit duller whenever he saw someone approaching and the person ended up not being Shikera.

’There’s still five minutes left,’ he whispered.

"Exactly, Wizard. Why did you not tell me?"

He turned to see Shikera staring at him through the window of the passenger seat, her lips curled up in petulance.

"You are here. Thank goodness I didn’t leave yet," he said, his voice bearing a teasing lilt.

Shikera scoffed, pulling the door open to get into the car. She clasped her seatbelt and turned, "Why didn’t you tell me everyone found out who I am?"

"What?" Ethan arched a brow, feigning ignorance. "What do you mean by everyone found out who you are when as far as I know, they have known who you are right from the beginning? You used to be Shikera Anderson and now you’re still Shikera Anderson, though not for long."

Shikera let out a loud sigh, rolling her eyes with as much sass as she could muster. "Thanks for making that clear. What I meant to ask, Mr. DeLoach, is why didn’t you tell me that everyone now know who my father is?"

Ethan shrugged.

"What do you think? Maybe it’s because I wanted you to experience what it feels like to have reporters hounding you," he teased, his eyes raking over her body as if searching for something. He raised his head to meet her gaze, "Doesn’t look like my plan was successful though. Don’t tell me the reporters were partial because you’re one of them."

Casting a mock glare at him, Shikera held back from answering his question. Contrary to what he thought, the reporters wouldn’t have been partial. That is; if they had seen her earlier. She had only been able to prevent that by telling Maxwell and Skyler she had no prior knowledge that her family’s identity was now exposed, while the two joined hands in helping her escape Team leader Sterling.

The meeting she had expected to be held in a conference room ended up being held in the garage, just a few metres away from Ethan’s car. They also had to conclude it all within ten minutes.

"I’m sorry," Ethan’s voice broke into her reverie, "I had no idea it would create problems for you."

"Nah, it’s alright. Not like alright alright but..." Shikera sighed, "You not telling me was a huge shock but was still funny. I didn’t know there’d be a day Team leader Sterling would attempt to flatter me. But on the other hand, the fact that everyone now knows who my father is, isn’t funny in any way."

Ethan turned the key in the ignition, starting the car as it pulled out the driveway.

"We couldn’t stop the reporters," he muttered apologetically, even though he knew Shikera would understand. After all, she had uncovered many faces and delivered countless news, and knew she couldn’t take back what the public already saw and heard, no matter how much money and time she invested into it. But he still felt the need to explain, "Your ID card had your name, and when scanned, it revealed your family register. Your emergency contact was your father too."

"What goes around comes around. That’s the idiomatic representation of what I’m going through right now." She paused for a while, contemplating inwardly whether to speak out the words at the tip of her tongue or not. Few seconds later, she decided on the latter, "Elovien’s production team has been receiving a lot of calls on their hotline from viewers. They want the next one to be a live show and for that, it has to be postponed so the team can get enough time to prepare. I can’t uncover your mask tomorrow."

Ethan raised his brows at that, "When is it then?"

"In ten days," she replied, and when she saw the frown starting to form on Ethan’s face, immediately added with a softer voice, "Just a day before the surgery. It will take just an hour or two."

"Why does it have to be a live show?"

Shikera raised her hand, taking down her fingers one after the other as she outlined the reasons, "One, because the viewers want it and two... the company will gain lot from that. Three, I agreed because if the live show goes well, I might have the opportunity to hand the show over to another anchor. Isn’t that perfect?"
