Chapter 2269: Chapter 2269: So, Does This Mean It Has to Be You?

"This sword is suppressing me, I can’t leave. Can you try to move the sword and let me out?"

Carson Flores widened his eyes in shock: "Senior, you’re overestimating me. With my strength, how could I possibly move this sword even an inch?"

Crimson Mad said, "Who told you to move this sword? If you could, do you think it would still be able to suppress me?"

Carson asked in confusion, "So what should I do?"

Crimson Mad explained, "There’s a Sword Talisman left by that person on this sword, and that’s what drives the sword. If you can unlock the Sword Talisman, without its power, I could break free from the suppression myself."

Carson’s expression turned a bit peculiar. This plot seemed somewhat familiar.

An impressive individual under suppression, with a talisman stuck on the suppressing object. All it takes is to unlock the talisman, and the impressive individual can break out of suppression and regain their unruly powers.

"Where is the Sword Talisman?"

"It’s on the blade,"

Crimson Mad replied, "Usually, this Sword Talisman doesn’t appear, but whenever I struggle, it emerges to drive the sword and suppress me. I’ll move a bit, so you can see it."

Carson didn’t rush to act but asked instead, "The sword’s owner is so powerful, how could I, a mere Heavenly Immortal, unlock his Sword Talisman? If I even attempt to approach it, it might destroy me."

Crimson Mad explained, "He only intended to suppress me, not kill me. Otherwise, he would have killed me outright at the start. As for the Sword Talisman, according to him, those who can understand it can unlock it. Those who can’t, simply cannot. Go try and see if you can unlock it."

Carson nodded, but still didn’t move: "Senior, I could try to rescue you, but what’s in it for me? And if I accidentally unlock the Sword Talisman, and you break free, only to repay kindness with enmity by slapping me dead, what should I do then?"

Crimson Mad, frustrated by Carson’s cautiousness, said angrily, "I can slap you to death right now, believe it or not?"

"I believe," 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Carson replied with a smile, "But if you kill me now, no one will help you solve the Sword Talisman. Of course, there are three others above, and they might bring more people, but it’s another story whether they intend to solve the Sword Talisman or solve you."

Crimson Mad laughed in anger: "So you’re saying it’s you or no one?"

Carson laughed, "I have pretty good luck generally, who can say for sure?"

Crimson Mad snorted, "Alright, what do you want?"

Carson justified, "How about we make a contract, not a master-servant contract, but a friendship contract where you can’t harm me. Also, for rescuing you, you should give me some benefits, right?"

Crimson Mad laughed heartily, "And you want to sign a friendship contract with me?"

Carson chuckled, "Are you saying I’m not worthy? Ah, senior, you’re superficial. Friendship is about sincerity, not status or power. Besides, I’m just ensuring you won’t harm me by accident. Given my weakness, and the fact that we didn’t know each other before today, isn’t it reasonable for me to be cautious?"

Crimson Mad fell silent, unsure if he was exasperated or amused by Carson’s words.

Perhaps this was the first time in his life a Heavenly Immortal so bluntly threatened him to sign a friendship contract.

"Get out! Bring those people outside in here!"

Carson’s expression unchanged, turned and walked away: "Alright, wait a moment, I’ll call them in now."

Just as Carson flew upwards, a massive suction force appeared in the surrounding space, dragging him wrapped in the Water-Repelling Pearl back to the seabed.

"I could make a contract with you, but if you can’t unlock the Sword Talisman, won’t I be at a loss?"

Carson exclaimed, "How is it a loss? What do I gain from you? Even if I can’t unlock the Sword Talisman, you’ll still be here under suppression, just as before, without suffering more pain or hardship. If anything, I’m the one at a loss. My effort without compensation is indeed unfair, isn’t it?"

"Plus, even if I manage to pull you out, I gain nothing. A friendship contract only ensures we don’t harm each other, it doesn’t require you to do anything. So really, I’m at a loss. How about you pay some advance compensation, just as a deposit? When hiring people, even if they don’t pay upfront, they at least give a down payment."

Crimson Mad found himself exasperated by Carson’s relentless bargaining, demanding compensation even before seeing the Sword Talisman, having done no work, yet seemingly justified in doing so.

He couldn’t refute him!

Crimson Mad took a few breaths before speaking: "Tell me, what do you want? I must inform you, as a Starry Sky Magical Beast, my body is my greatest asset and fighting strength, unlike you Human Cultivators, who like to collect various treasures..."
