Chapter 160: The Bloodline Within Alex

Alex stood up, his eyes alert and darting around as he searched for the source of the fear that had gripped his heart. Then his gaze lifted to the sky.

Nerzalia’s eyes met his—golden, slit pupils locking with his deep purple ones. She smiled.

Alex stumbled back, muttering, "What the hell? Did she see me?"

Back on the battlefield...

As the White Wyvern fell, the monsters froze. Fear gripped their hearts. They hesitated, wavering.

Above, two more White Wyverns hovered in the sky, their blue eyes darting around in panic as they searched for the one responsible for their brethren’s death.

Bit by bit, the White Wyverns backed away from the wall.

The entire battlefield seemed to freeze—soldiers mid-swing, monsters mid-jump, everything suspended in stillness.

"ATTACK! NOW IS OUR CHANCE!"

Marshal Sebeth’s voice boomed from the watchtower, snapping the soldiers out of their daze.

"Ahhhhh!"

With a thunderous war cry, the soldiers surged forward, cutting down the stunned monsters still atop the wall.Yelps and growls erupted, breaking the silence of the battlefield.

Hans and Hook, who had been hiding in a hut, came out.

Hook screamed, "Ahhhhhhh!"Hans followed, "Ehhhhhh!"

Spears in hand, they charged toward a nearby Frost Wolf together. The Frost Wolf growled, backing away.

"GRRR!"

Its icy horns shot up like a porcupine’s quills, launching toward them—but both men dodged nimbly.Hans’s eyes trembled. He hesitated for a moment. But Hook kept charging, mad with adrenaline.

He thrust his spear—

Slash!Squelch!

The spear pierced true, stabbing into the Frost Wolf’s back.

"Grrrrrrr..."

A pained growl escaped its mouth. Its aura flared like fire, freezing the ground beneath it. The spear itself froze inside its flesh.Hook tried to yank the weapon free—but it was stuck.

He backed away, leaving the spear behind. The Frost Wolf, now enraged, turned to him with a ferocious glare.

Crunch...

It stepped forward slowly, its sharp claws cracking the thin ice beneath.Hook backed away, eyes wide with terror, sweat dripping from his face.

He could see it—his death—in the monster’s eyes. His heart pounded, gripped by fear.

The Frost Wolf advanced, cold breath fogging from its mouth.Hook stopped—his back pressed against the cold barricade wall.

He gulped. His trembling gaze returned to the monster now only a few feet away.Death was coming.

He could feel it crawling closer. The Frost Wolf growled, pleased by the fear radiating from its prey. It didn’t stop.

Everything else—the cries, the battle—faded away as it relished the terror.

It opened its mouth—and lunged.

Hook screamed, eyes squeezed shut.

Slash!Thud!

The Frost Wolf’s head rolled across the ice.Its body dropped like a sack of meat.

Hans stood nearby, panting heavily, both hands gripping a bloodied sword.

"Eh... Hook... Let’s... hide... eh..."

Still trembling, Hook nodded, finally taking a small, shaky breath of relief.

On the other side of the battlefield...

Fear gripped Alex’s heart as he tightly clutched the cold handle of his spear.Nerzalia’s gaze never left him. He felt like a cornered mouse being toyed with by a predator.

But to his relief, the tide of battle had already turned in their favor. The White Wyverns still hovered in hesitation, and Nerzalia—thankfully—seemed too focused on him to give them any orders.

Above, the Dragon Queen licked her lips and murmured to herself,"I have to confirm it... I need to get close to him to be sure."

On the watchtower...

Marshal Sebeth stood tall, her pale blue eyes glowing under the soft moonlight. Her frost-covered sword gleamed in her hand, and her blue armor shimmered like ice under the stars.

Though the battlefield roared beneath her, she hadn’t stepped in. She was watching everything—the skirmish below, the hesitation in the sky, and most of all, Nerzalia, the Dragon Queen.

Just behind her stood Selene, her face marred by anxiety. But she held firm—her posture straight, her emotions tightly locked behind a veil of discipline. She would not show weakness.

Marshal Sebeth narrowed her eyes. She had noticed something.

Nerzalia wasn’t watching the battlefield at all.She was staring—fixedly—at one point on the wall.

Sebeth scanned the line of soldiers, muttering to herself,"She’s not even commanding the army she brought? How arrogant is she?"

Then her eyes widened. They locked on to Alex.

She turned sharply—first to Nerzalia, then back to Alex.Realization dawned on her—Marshal Sebeth’s eyes widened. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

She whispered,"No... that can’t be."

Whoosh!

A gust of wind rushed past Alex.He instinctively shut his eyes.

When he opened them—Two golden, slit pupils filled his entire vision.

Nerzalia.

Her face was inches from his, staring into him with predatory focus.Alex staggered back in shock.

"Alexander!"

Marshal Sebeth leapt from the watchtower, her voice sharp with urgency."Alex!"

Selene followed, pouring all her might into the sprint, panic painted across her face.

Nerzalia didn’t even flinch. She smiled at Alex and whispered, her voice a sultry purr,

"I was right... You carry the fresh scent of my ancestor. His blood flows through your veins."

Suddenly, the air thickened.

Alex couldn’t move—not even a finger. It felt like invisible ropes had wrapped around his entire body, binding him from head to toe. Only his eyes were free.

Sweat trickled down his brow.

What is going on? What is she babbling about? His mind became a battlefield of questions and panic.

Nerzalia smiled wider, hearing the rapid thud of his heartbeat echoing in her ears like a war drum. Then—her pale hand wrapped around his neck.Gently but firmly, she pulled him closer.

Marshal Sebeth landed hard, only feet away—But the space around her suddenly congealed, like wet cement solidifying in an instant.

She froze, unable to move. She felt it.

Marshal Sebeth couldn’t even move her fingers. She muttered under her breath,

"Is this... the power of a Sage? She’s controlling the laws... But monsters shouldn’t have that kind of comprehension..."

Nerzalia slowly turned her pale, flawless face toward Sebeth and smiled.

That smile—those jagged, sharp teeth—sent a cold shiver down Sebeth’s spine.

A soft, sultry voice answered her thought aloud:

"You’re wrong. Our comprehension is slow... but it comes. And when it does, it lasts."

Sebeth’s eyes widened as realization dawned.

"If monster Sages are older... they’re much stronger than our newly awakened ones!"

Nerzalia’s smile deepened, and she turned back to Alex. She brought his face inches from hers.

"No! No—don’t!"Selene screamed.

She fell to her knees, her voice breaking into sobs as she cried.

But Nerzalia didn’t look back. Not this time.

She stared into Alex’s trembling purple eyes, watching the chaos and desperation flood through them.

His heart pounded violently in his chest. He heard Selene’s voice—he felt it crash into his soul.

And then—he struggled.

Crack.A finger twitched.

It moved—just barely—through the frozen space.Tears slipped down his cheeks.

His mind screamed:

"Selene! Selene... DON’T COME NEAR! STAY BACK! PLEASE!"

But Nerzalia’s smile never faded. She brought his face even closer to hers.

In Alex’s vision now, only one thing remained—those golden eyes, with their abyss-like vertical slits.

Then he felt it.The weight.The despair.The hopelessness.

It crushed him.

He was weak. He’d always been weak.Weaker than most.He had lost so many—too many—Because of this cursed, crippling weakness.

His tears flowed freely.

Nerzalia sniffed near Alex’s face. She felt it.

Yes—her ancestor’s blood pulsed within him. But there was something more...Something older, stronger—something that even she didn’t recognize.

A glint flashed in her golden eyes. She muttered,

"I have to confirm it further..."

Her red, cherry-like tongue—soft and squishy—slid out between her lips.

Slurp! She licked the right side of Alex’s cheek.

His eyes widened in disbelief. His thoughts froze—blank. Numb.

Marshal Sebeth’s eyes flew wide with horror.Selene, mid-scream, froze.

Tears streaked her cheeks as her eyes widened in stunned silence.

Across the battlefield—monsters cackled.Soldiers stood stunned.Many trembled.

Then—

Slurp!

She licked the left side of his cheek.

"Hmm..."

A soft, breathy sound escaped her lips—like a wine taster savoring a rare flavor. She closed her eyes, savoring the sensation.

When she opened them again, they shimmered with hunger.

"I need a little blood too."

A collective gasp echoed across the battlefield. The word—"blood"—rippled like a curse across the soldiers’ ears.

Far in a shadowed corner, Bane, hiding with eyes wide in twisted glee, grinned. He whispered under his breath,

"Yes... eat that bastard."

Then Nerzalia’s gaze dropped—to Alex’s lips.She smiled.

Leaning in, she pressed her mouth close—and bit into his lower lip.

A warm drop of blood slipped from his lip and trailed down her throat. She threw her head back and moaned,

"Ahhh... That’s the taste!""Hmm..."

Soldiers recoiled. Some took steps back in instinctive fear.

Selene collapsed to the ground, shaking, her voice lost.Marshal Sebeth gritted her teeth and tried to push through the frozen space—but it only tightened around her like a vice.

Crack.

A groan escaped her lips as her bones began to strain.

Nerzalia wiped the blood from her lips with the back of her hand, then looked back at Alex—his wide, tear-streaked eyes locked with hers.

She leaned in again.Alex shivered—despite being frozen stiff.

Am I going to be eaten alive by this monster?Helpless again... Why does fate always toy with me?
