Chapter 181: Reassuring smile

Canillas really hoped that his wife would never bring up the topic that he did not want to hear from her anymore. He did not want to get back to the moment when she used all of her determination to avoid him.

However, before he could say anything to explain what he just did so that she would not be angry at him, he found Joanna looping her hand on his arm. As a result, relief washed over him after he took a few seconds to digest the reality that was happening.

All the worry that appeared inside him was washed away, and he felt that he was back from the void to be able to breathe again.

"Let’s go," Joanna said with a reassuring smile.

She could sense what he was thinking, which made him lose his mind, as he had never walked dragging her like he did a while ago.

It did not take long for Joanna to realize that the peculiar yet familiar sensation that she felt through the part of her body was not another test that was given by him.

His facial expression told her clearly when she stopped him from doing further. He looked confused and blank as if asking himself what he was doing before he came to his senses and retreated, and after that, he looked like he was occupied by himself.

It was his desire. But she somehow wanted to give him a sign that she was not angry at him and that she trusted him, because he did stop when she asked him to stop.

He would never hurt her and would never force himself on her because she was dear to him and he cared for her. Joanna wanted to trust it, and he had proven it.

Feeling relieved by the confirmation he saw through the reassuring smile that was offered to him, a smile to tell him that she was really fine and not angry at him, Canillas smiled in return to his wife, wrapping her hand that was on his arm more tightly than he had before.

Together, they resumed their way towards the place that both of them were actually eager to avoid.

Gradually, the sound of noise was back to be heard. As the sound increased in intensity, the light became more dazzling with every step that was taken.

But Joanna did not stop her pace. She kept on walking hand in hand with the man whom she believed would be by her side to provide solace for her, like how he shielded her from coldness, although his hands were freezing cold.

As Joanna and Canillas were back to divide the sea of people whose attention somehow felt more suffocating for Joanna compared to when she passed the same path before, she wondered if there was something not right with her appearance.

The guests were not only staring at her but also whispering to people next to them.

Not able to bear the many eyes and murmurs that she was sure were aimed at her, Joanna turned her head to see Canillas, which made him shift his calm gaze toward her, as if he were always aware of where her attention was directed.

Noticing that Joanna was about to talk to him, Canillas leaned over so that he could hear what she was going to tell him, as the air surrounding them was far from tranquil, filled with various voices that came from many eyes that watched over them.

Positioning his ear near Joanna’s lips, he heard her question him. "Is there something wrong with me? Have you... Have you fixed my dress properly?" Joanna trailed off when speaking, as what happened when he buttoned her dress was still playing clearly in her mind.

Even the feeling of his lips kissing her nape was still there, causing the memory of sensation to reappear along with the rapid heartbeat that drummed in her chest.

However, she could not help but ask him, as she needed to make sure everything was in the right place. That way, she could conclude why all the eyes were stubbornly directed at her.

"There is something wrong with you."

Seeing Canillas nod his head before delivering those words as an answer to her question made Joanna think to change her direction right at the powder room, where she could check her appearances more clearly, as in there there would be plenty of light that was more than enough to help her get a better look at her appearance compared to where she was a while ago.

However, before she told Canillas that she needed to go to the powder room, she had it canceled because of the next words that came from his honeyed lips.

"You are too perfect, and that’s wrong for those who can’t keep their eyes away from you." Joanna took an abrupt halt from her track, which was soon followed by Canillas at what she was hearing.

For a moment, Joanna unblinkingly looked at him, who was smiling at her, with her mouth slightly agape.

She could not believe that he was the same man who looked like he was losing his mind and words a few seconds ago. Joanna was amazed at how fast he reserved himself and said those honeyed words to her.

"And your dress..." But it seemed that he had not completely reserved yet, as now he was back to his perplexed look and averted his gaze, which mostly never left her, when he talked to her.

Canillas, who was now staring ahead of him as he had a hard time looking straight into the eyes that were always captivating him, was indeed having difficulty completing his words. The memory that passed a few moments ago drifted back to his mind.

The delicate skin around her long neck, which was exposed before his eyes, made his mind disoriented as his desire to explore more came to the surface. But he had to compose himself and regain his senses for her, who had forgiven him and not made it into a complex issue to make their relationship worse.

"I have fixed it properly. So you don’t need to worry." Canillas managed to answer after clearing his throat, trying to show a calm demeanor.

However, unbeknownst to him, this time he failed to create a façade to camouflage his true emotions, and his wife was able to read it from his blushing face and unsettled expression. The way he avoided her eyes was the strongest sign that implied he was not as fine as he expected himself to appear.

But Joanna did not prolong to ensure herself that her observation was not wrong, as she found that his current look, which she had never seen before from him, was somehow amusing.

With that thought, Joanna resumed taking her steps, shifting her gaze from the amusing man to look ahead of her, where many eyes still had their attention on her and her amusing husband.
