The General's Wife Wants to Leave-Chapter 198: A natural flow like a wind tide
Chapter 198: A natural flow like a wind tide
"Please don’t say something that will ruin my concentration, Sir Canillas," Joanna retorted while trying to place her concentration back on track so that she would not miss her steps, which would only humiliate not only herself but also the man who had led her well until now.
She was indeed amazed at his surprising talent, but she could not tell him that, as if she did, she somehow had a sense that they would indulge in prolonged conversation that would then take the whole of her concentration on the topic they were talking about. Because she was not as good as him at dancing.
She needed to keep her focus intact, pushing aside all her curiosity, which would become one of the reasons why she had a sense that the conversation would take more time than necessary.
There was one ground that made Joanna have a strong eagerness to avoid any attempt that asked for her hands for a dance, and it was because what she told her current dancing partner was not a lie—that she was not good at dancing.
She indeed could dance, but she was not good at it. And she could dance because none of the Terrans, particularly those who came from upper-class society, missed being taught to dance, as dancing was seen as a tool to engage with society. Therefore, that most basic skill had to be learned by those before stepping into society.
Nonetheless, becoming skilled or not was a different matter.
Joanna did learn to dance when she was a kid, but she was not confident enough that she would perform flawlessly if she happened to dance with many eyes on her, remembering what problems she had been struggling with.
She did not want to become a laughing stock if she stumbled and fell when she danced with whoever gentleman she decided to dance with. What was more important than that was that she did not want her family to be humiliated because of her incompetence in a skill that was regarded as a piece of cake by the majority of Terrans.
Aside from that, she had not danced for quite so long now, even before her brother, whom she used to have practice with and whose feet she stepped on so many times, left for studying far from Barasca. And now what she had to do was recall all the memories she had about the dance and collect her resolve to follow the steps of her current dancing partner, who had unexpectedly expertly guided her.
Joanna somehow felt no worry grow inside her when she decided that she would accompany her husband for the dance.
She somehow believed that he would not leave her alone or mock her when she made a mistake in her steps or when she stumbled and fell. She also somehow believed that he would accompany her to the end and hold her, not letting her fall down.
Therefore, she told him about her condition, saying that she was actually not good at dancing, although she daringly offered herself to accompany him in the dance. She wanted him to know about her condition, telling him the problem she had, just like he had suggested that she could tell him anything that she wanted to share with him and that they would resolve it together.
To her relief, she indeed felt calm after getting a reassuring response from him, although she was skeptical about his skill in dancing.
One thing that Joanna thought at that time was that if they had to be laughed at because of their clumsiness in the dance, they would be laughed at together. At least she was not alone, as he would share the same situation as her.
But now, knowing that he was beyond her expectations, catching her well after she twirled and swirled around, and guiding her very well in taking every step of movement that made her feel relaxed to the point she felt they eventually developed a natural flow like a wind tide, she had a responsibility to not ruin the effort he had built to be the leader in the dance they were having at the moment.
Joanna also felt that she did not want to taint the perfect movement they had until now. For her to have such an unexpected experience that was beyond her expectations was an opportunity that she did not want to throw away because of her clumsiness.
Thus, she could not let the wind tide collapse. She could not let the leader of the dance make any remarks that would ruin her concentration. They had to be silent in order to have a flawless movement to the end.
On the other hand, the leader of the dance had a contrary thought from the lady who looked so nervous and whom he led to dance. It was the first dance that he had never expected to come this soon with his intriguing wife. He had never expected that she would ask for them to have a dance in the first place, beating him in three breaths away as he still gathered his courage to ask for her hand for the dance.
When she mentioned dance, his heart suddenly palpitated in his chest. He knew the direction of the question she gave him at that moment, and he knew how it would end up in the end. When he said that he did not want to dance alone, it was actually a hint he sent her that he wanted to dance with her. He wanted to have the first dance with her, his wife.
Dancing alone was not the thing that became his concern, as there were so many individual folk dances that were established in Archess that he could pick one to entertain all the eyes who seemed to be eager to witness the General of Archess dance if he had to.
Nonetheless, dancing alone was not on his option list at that time. The only thing he wanted to achieve at that time was that he wanted to dance with his wife, who had allowed him to feel like her real husband this very night. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
There were so many genuine, heartwarming smiles that she had shown to him, although he was not sure if she did it on purpose or not. There were so many skin-to-skin interactions they shared this night that he could feel the softness of the skin that belonged to her.
There was more intimate conversation they had as well, although a larger portion was still on his plate. But he felt full and grateful for every interaction they had this night.
Overall, he felt like he was completely with a woman that he had married this night. It was really like they were not strangers but husband and wife who were not only in name.
