Chapter 201: Would you come with me?

"Would you come with me?"

"No. It is impolite since His Majesty just asked for a meeting with Sir Canillas."

Still finding Canillas standing in front of her with a slight crease growing between his brows, as if contemplating something, Joanna said, "Please don’t worry about me. I will be waiting here with my father." She tried to diminish any worry that might be felt by the man before her, who seemed to be worried if she would become distressed if she was alone.

It was not long before the banquet ended, where several guests performed a folk dance in groups as part of a tradition to wrap up all the night’s merry events, that a royal servant approached the table where Joanna and General von Rodega were seated.

Different from the previous servant who approached their table to deliver a special royal gift to General von Rodega, who had been pointed out as an honored guest but ended up having to repay in the form of a dance with his wife, at that moment the servant approached to deliver a message that King Ordoba requested a private meeting with General von Rodega after the banquet ended.

Upon hearing the message that was delivered to him, Canillas realized that his reluctance to accept anything that was given to him was not baseless and had now taken effect. Nonetheless, regardless of the realization, he was aware that he was in a position and situation where he could not disobey a sovereign of a kingdom that his homeland allied with, particularly one who had showered him with the tremendous generosity that had been witnessed by hundreds of pairs of eyes to him.

Further than that, his King was already aware of anything that would have him involved in the land where his wife was born, as the fact was not to be ignored that his marriage to Joanna de Lara had made him part of Terra as well. For that main reason, King Ordoba eagerly bound him into a marriage alliance with her.

And tonight’s event had made him more realized and awakened to that matter—a matter that could not be ignored as his wife was a Terran.

However, what was most important for him was that, until now, he sensed that there were no ill intentions from any party regarding this matter, despite the fact that both of the Kings competed to win his favor. Therefore, he could only nod his head when he obtained confirmation about the validity of the request, as from the dais, he saw King Ordoba nod his head, indicating that he was indeed asking for the General of Archess for a meeting.

As the confirmation had been accepted, he wondered what made the King of Terra ask for a meeting with him, as if it were an urgent call that could not be delayed even for a day. Did the King know that he would leave the capital for Barasca the next day, as it was what had been planned by him and his father-in-law as he considered returning to Archess as soon as possible? Canillas was not sure.

Or perhaps the issue that was going to be discussed was very urgent. Canillas guessed.

Nonetheless, although Canillas felt warm joy flooded in his heart when he heard Joanna say that she would wait for him here with her father instead of saying that she would leave with her father first, leaving him alone like what she heartlessly demanded when they indulged in the dim room in the inn, he thought that it might not be a good idea for her and her father to wait for him until the meeting was over.

It was simply because he had no idea about the agenda of the sudden meeting and how much the urgency was that would make the meeting take longer to deal with. Then, wasn’t it better to ask her to leave first with her father? Canillas contemplated.

Tilting her head to the side while wondering why Canillas was still not moving from where he was standing while keeping on looking at her even after she said that, Joanna found her father making his way from behind Canillas toward their direction.

"Father," Joanna called out. Her gaze was directed across the back of Canillas, which made Canillas turn his head to look behind him, only to find his father-in-law coming closer toward them.

There were about three-fourths of guests who stayed in the main hall, as others had left right after the King and his family left the great hall to return to the King’s building, which became their dwelling place, indicating the end of the birthday banquet of the Crown Prince.

If the General had not been invited for another unplanned activity that made them unable to leave the castle, Joanna would have been part of the one-quarter of people who left the main hall where the banquet had taken place.

However, leaving the castle immediately, right after the banquet was over, was rare, as if the opportunity was rare to obtain for most of the guests to meet colleagues or relatives. Hence, another round of conversation would be held again in the front hall before they would soon be separated by distance and time.

"What a good performance from the two of you," commented Duke de Lara with a broad smile spread across his face when he reached where Joanna and Canillas were standing. "It is a surprise to know that my daughter danced well," the Duke commented more.

Pride, mixed with surprise, clearly laced both his demeanor and voice. A low chuckle that followed after the comment was made caused Joanna to feel her cheeks burn, as she also did not realize that she could dance well without making a single mistake.

It was also the first time for her father to praise her for something that she had never performed in public before. This kind of reaction from her father made her wonder what her brother’s reaction would be when this news reached his ears. But Joanna strongly predicted that it would highly likely make her more ashamed than she was at the moment, as her brother would not let her go easily from his cheekiness.

"Father, His Majesty is inviting Sir Canillas for a meeting, so sorry that we can’t return home yet," Joanna said, informing the Duke while distracting him from making any more comments that would make her more embarrassed. But the reply to the information that she relayed did not come from her father.
