The General's Wife Wants to Leave-Chapter 214: A muffled yelp
Chapter 214: A muffled yelp
Not wanting to miss any moment, he waited for her, a few meters away, but to the point he could see her once she came out of there.
It was then that he saw a maidservant, looking suspicious in his eyes, as her gesture was too cautious for a normal person who had a normal intention with her.
His suspicion hoisted more when, not long later, Joanna went out with her in the opposite direction in a hurry with a worried gesture.
Feeling curious, which was mixed with an alert feeling, he followed them. Then he was sure that Joanna was in danger when he heard her mention of her father’s condition to that maidservant. It was then that he took action. He had to stop her from following that maidservant, who clearly lured her with fabricated information.
Managing to tackle down the seeming-mad maidservant after he decided that she was a female outside but a male inside, Marvin crouched down, unbuckling the belt of his uniform that he would use to tie the hands of the maidservant, who was writhing, cursing, and spitting while lying on her chest on the floor.
In an attempt to make the maidservant stop wriggling to escape from his lock, two black silhouettes suddenly emerged from the garden, sauntering towards Marvin in a swift movement, not giving him any second to register what was going on.
"Marvin!" Joanna shouted.
Being kicked hard in his chest by one of them, which made his body thrown out hard and hit the wall, Joanna shouted Marvin’s name before taking a quick pace backward and then turning away to avoid the other man, who did not kick Marvin, striding in her direction.
Because of that, she could not execute her attempt to help Marvin, who was now clutching his chest, curling in pain on the floor with blood trickling down from one corner of his lips.
A futile attempt indeed, as her arm was grabbed and pulled by that man when she raced, running back toward where the crowd was still gathered to ask for help.
And the "help" word could only manage to be loudly erupted once, echoing through the chill air in the now-eerie corridor, before her mouth was covered with a large palm that came from the person behind her, causing Joanna to wriggle with all her might to get herself free from whoever dragged her to disappear from the scene.
Wriggling desperately, along with a muffled grunt sound, Joanna kicked the tall, burly-framed man’s legs with her heels, harder than what she did to the man whom she cruelly accused of going to do something that she hated.
At the moment, tears began to pool in the brim of Joanna’s eyes when fear engulfed her, given the fact that the man who was now behind her back, having his arms on her body, was not the man who had soothed her.
He was not the man who had told her patiently that he would not do anything that hurt her and she disliked. He was not the man who would protect her. And the man who had treated her tenderly with a lot of respect and had a tacit understanding of her was not with her at the moment.
The man in whose arms she had found solace and comfort—the man who had never treated her rudely, never making her feel pain and disgusted like she was currently feeling—was nowhere to be seen.
Glancing at one side a few steps away from her, through the corner of her wet eyes, Joanna saw Marvin slowly manage to stand up. But she knew that Marvin could not help her as the other burly-built and tan-skinned man, who had kicked him and released the bind that Marvin made to tie the hands of the maidservant, was now dashing toward him, preventing him from helping her.
As the burly man was about to give a hard punch, aimed toward his face, gratefully, Marvin managed to dodge, as if telling them that one hard blow on his chest was more than enough, and no more punch he allowed to land on his body.
In rage and rush, Marvin fought with him. His movements were getting more unbridled, showing how infuriated he was, as not only the burly man but also the now-free maidservant always blocked him from approaching Joanna.
The daggers that both of them unfairly and cowardly used made Marvin have to be careful, not reckless, no matter how anxious, impatient, and angry he was in every movement. He could not get hurt because he had to protect the woman that he had kept fourished in his heart for so long.
’Hang on, Joanna. Hang on,’ Marvin chanted in his anxious heart and mind repeatedly, giving fuel to his attack and defense when he saw Joanna being dragged away.
Knowing that Marvin had to protect himself as he was surrounded by two scary and strong opponents, Joanna could not rely on him. She could not ruin his concentration, which would only put him in danger. Hence, she should protect herself on her own.
She had to escape to seek help if she did not want to end up being brought to another place that she did not know and not knowing what would happen to her afterward. She had to do that because she did not want to leave the people who were dear to her. She wanted to live her life safe and sound for a long time with them all.
With all the light still lit in her cloudy mind, Joanna, with a lot of strength, stepped on the foot of the burly, smelly man behind her while pulling the big hand that covered her mouth with her both hands. However, it seemed to have no impact, as there was no reaction coming from the scary man who kept on covering her mouth with his filthy palm.
A fleeting moment later, Joanna turned more alarmed, as the burly man was now trying to lift her body, as if about to carry her somewhere. But before that happened, a loud groan of pain came from the same man behind her, and it erupted after she hit his head hard with the object that she took out of her dress pocket.
As he had his guard down due to the sudden pain that was inflicted on him, Joanna bit the man’s palm as hard as she could, ignoring the unpleasant smell and thick skin that hurt her teeth. Soon, another shout of pain erupted.
With the blood-stained object in her hand, Joanna, who managed to break free, ran madly while screaming for help.
"Ahh!!!"
But then it turned into a shriek of pain when her hair was pulled from behind, pulling her to return to the initial location that she managed to leave by only four steps away.
And a gasp slipped out of her lips when, through her blurry vision as tears of fear and pain kept flowing from her eyes, she saw the man whose half of his face was drenched with blood. It seemed that the impact that she had imposed on his head was not small.
However, despite the condition that came to her view, the man was still standing straight, gritting his yellowish teeth with an angry expression obviously drawn on his scarred face.
She could see that clearly because she was now facing the man, not like before when she was locked by him from behind her. He made her face him, with her hair still being gripped by him, as if wanting to show her the impact she had inflicted on him.
Being enveloped with a wave of fear as she sensed that the man was utterly angry following the grip on her hair that was getting tighter, which limited her movement as a slight movement caused pain in her scalp, Joanna screamed when the man suddenly lifted her and placed her on his shoulder, ready to take her flee to the place that she did not know and did not want to go.
Without thinking too long, in her panic, Joanna hit the back of the bald head of the burly man with the same object that, fortunately, was unnoticed by the burly man, and she still grabbed it in her shaking hand.
Once again, it did have an impact on the burly man, as he cursed louder compared to the previous one while holding the part of his head that she had hit hard with his other hand that was not used to hold her body.
Blood oozed from the wound on his head, making his hand turn red as it was covered with blood.
The burly man seemed to become dizzy as he slightly swayed in his walk, and Joanna took the chance.
She wriggled more desperately, hitting the back of the man with the same object in her hand repeatedly, while her legs trashed nonstop. As a result, Joanna fell with a quite loud thud on the cold marble floor as the burly man could not keep his balance due to the extra pain that was inflicted on the other part of his body.
It utterly hurt, but the panicky Joanna could only make a muffled yelp.
