The General's Wife Wants to Leave-Chapter 33: Nothing to be hidden between husband and wife
Chapter 33: Nothing to be hidden between husband and wife
Joanna saw the General purse his lips into a thin line, looking displeased at her response.
She then heard him say, "Don’t forget that you are the von Rodega family now, Joanna. And it is normal for von Rodega’s doctor to check on the condition of their mistress. Besides...," Canillas trailed, capturing a hint of panic on her countenance. "You said before that you felt abandoned by your husband. Although I disagreed with you as I left for the battlefield at that time, I respect your feelings. Therefore, let me make amends, and let me show you that I care for you, dear wife," Canillas stated, an indescribable smile appearing on his face.
He then turned his head to the side, and nodded, gesturing to the man named Fabio, who stood a few steps away behind him, to come closer.
After tying the other side of the drapes that he had not drawn open before to the bedpost, Canillas lifted a chair that was available in the room and placed it next to the side of the bed.
He once again directed Fabio with the movement of his head, which was understood by Fabio as he soon took a seat on the chair beside the bed. Meanwhile, Canillas took a seat on the bed, next to his wife.
"Let Fabio examine your condition, Joanna," ordered Canillas to the young lady, who looked nervous but trying hard to look calm. But, to her unbeknownst, the General had caught all the odd reactions from her demeanor that she had tried to hide from him.
Watching the wife of his master giving no response as she just sat still with her head lowered, Fabio then asked politely, "May I check on your pulse, Madam?" Joanna was still not responding, as if not hearing anything at the moment.
Canillas sighed and took a free pillow on the bed that was not used by Joanna. He then placed it between Joanna and Fabio where Joanna could put her hand on when her pulse was being examined.
"Come on, Joanna. Please cooperate. Don’t you want to get healed soon?" demanded Canillas.
Observing the quiet young lady who did not look as cold and confident as before, he said, "You will not act like this if you are not hiding something from me. Don’t you think so, wife?" Canillas tried to hit another bull’s eye from his wife as he saw her obstinate reluctance to cooperate.
Upon hearing that, Joanna did not speak for a few seconds before lifting her head to look straight into his eyes. "What if I am hiding something from you, Sir Canillas?" Inquired Joanna, as if challenging the General.
The sunlight that streamed through the window reflected in the cold, hazel eyes that were staring right into his deep, green eyes, not only holding valor in them but also filled with a glint of confidence. Such an intriguing, irresistible charm, thought Canillas about the woman in his mind.
"Then you just need to reveal it," Canillas hummed, shrugging his shoulders as if it was not a big matter at all. With a smile that held mirth on his lips, he added,
"Because as husband and wife, we need to learn not to hide anything between us. That way, our marital relationship will flourish and you will not bring up such an absurd request anymore. Isn’t that what a married couple wishes in their marriage?" Canillas grinned, holding her cold gaze that remained unwavering at him with excitement.
"So, now, stop playing around with your obstinacy, and let Fabio examine you," demanded Canillas, his expression turned serious.
Joanna was overwhelmed by his response, which tended to take no weight on anything coming from her words and behavior. But it was not for long as something suddenly came to her mind. She wanted to know what he would do if he found out about the fact behind her sickness.
He had shown a strong disagreement about their marriage annulment after many reasons she had for him. So, there was nothing to worry about if he happened to know about what she had done to make her body in such a horrendous condition.
Who knew if he found out that she had given false information about her sickness, he would despise her, think that she was a liar and an insane woman, and then agree to end their marriage right away, as he did not deserve to marry such a disrespectful woman.
With that thought, Joanna then placed her left hand on the pillow without any doubt, in a position where von Rodega’s family doctor could check on her pulse.
With her eyes drooping, she could feel Fabio carefully put his fingers on her wrist without grabbing her hand as if maintaining the boundary between him and his master’s wife.
From the corner of her eyes, she could also tell that the doctor observed the rashes on her exposed forearm.
After a few seconds, Fabio removed his fingers from Joanna’s wrist, and Joanna shifted her gaze to look at him. She saw the doctor knit his eyebrows and turned his head to see his master. Joanna then moved her gaze toward Canillas to find him looking at the doctor before directing his eyes toward her.
However, it did not take long for them to stare at each other as Canillas then pushed himself up from the bed, which was followed by Fabio who stood up from the chair. Both of the men walked away towards the door, leaving Joanna alone once again in her bedroom.
He found out. Joanna guessed in her mind. She was not sure but she noticed emotions that she had not seen before in his eyes when he looked at her prior to leaving her room.
She became restless as she could not hear what was reported by the doctor to the General. But, she did not need to worry about that as long as it would cause the end of their marriage.
Her husband might be back in her room to pour out his resentment at her before leaving her forever and never coming back again. He might think that there would be no use in maintaining a marriage with an insane woman. freēnovelkiss.com
"I hope it will be that simple this time," Joanna murmured in a whisper, a tired sigh slipping out of her lips.
