The General's Wife Wants to Leave-Chapter 35: Internal factors
Chapter 35: Internal factors
Canillas was still in deep thought about his wife who dared hurt herself, bearing the pain only to make him regard her as a sickly and scarred lady who did not deserve to be his wife.
However, regarding her action, Canillas could not detest her as she expected him to. Instead, he found her to be intriguing. How could there be a young lady who would do an insensible, audacious thing in order to end their marriage?
Fabio told him that the young madam was suffering from an allergy, which made rashes grow on her skin, causing it to be swollen and reddened. But it was not an allergy that was caused by external factors like the change of weather as she claimed to be the reason behind her sickness. Instead, it was triggered by internal factors like foreign substances contained in food or drink that were consumed and reacted in the body.
Another piece of information that was not less surprising was that the allergy had reacted less than three hours ago, not a few days ago as she said.
It had long been done by Canillas to take his men-at-arms and one of them was Fabio on a trip that was not part of his official duty as an Archessan soldier. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Having Fabio with him was like a double advantage as he could fight with him if they were attacked by any kind of enemy, and treat him and his colleagues if they happened to be hurt due to the attack. And if Fabio happened to be the one who was severely hurt, as long as he was still conscious, he might guide them to get urgent medical treatment which could save his life.
However, so far, during their private trip, Fabio had never used his skills as a doctor to treat Canillas and his colleagues. Fortunately, if there were ambushes, they always managed to defeat the parties that attacked them, without one of Canillas’ men being hurt.
But this time, it seemed to be an exception. It had never come to Canillas’ mind before that Fabio would apply his medical skills as a doctor for the first time during their private trip to examine the condition of his wife, Joanna von Rodega.
He also never thought that his wife would be suffering from this kind of illness when he came to visit her. The same illness that she suffered and used as an excuse to leave Archess.
It did not mean that he did not trust the doctor of de Lara’s family to check on her condition. It was just like what he said to her that he would find a way to cure her.
Aside from that, it would also be a relief to him if he had Fabio examine her, as he knew that Fabio would tell him the easiest way to understand her sickness, informing him of the accurate diagnosis, and providing solutions to heal her.
If there was a straight line that could shorten the distance to his destination, why should he choose a complicated one, especially in an urgent situation like now when the young lady was enduring pain?
It was not hard for Canillas to notice that she was in pain although she did not tell him how painful it was, as what she had told him so far was the absurd request which had made him full of that.
Canillas had known Fabio since they were a child, as their parents happened to be friends. Fabio’s father was a military doctor who always attended the battlefields where Canillas’ father with other soldiers had the battle.
Fabio had become an orphan with the death of his father and had been under the guardians of Canillas’ parents since then. Therefore, Fabio had become part of von Rodega for a long time, not only as a doctor but also as von Rodega’s man-at-arms.
For Fabio to be a doctor as he was now was not without any obstacles. Without the guidance of his father, who had passed away, Fabio had learned about the medical field from books and notes that belonged to his father.
However, the saying that blood was thicker than water was indeed proven by Fabio.
Despite the limitation of studying sources, he managed to improve his skills and experience as a doctor by conducting independent and autodidact medical practices in treating the wounded Canillas and his colleagues, the sick people in the von Rodega mansion, and some local communities around the land where the von Rodega mansion stood.
Therefore, Canillas was certain that Fabio would not give a wrong diagnosis as he had seen Fabio save von Rodegas’ life many times. Then, it only meant that his wife had lied to him and his judgment was not baseless.
Regarding the food or drinks that were served in the de Lara mansion, Canillas knew very well that it would not be the cause that made his wife suffer from the current allergy. It would be hard to believe that the servants did not know what food or drink to not serve for their masters.
However, it would be an exception if there was a conspiracy to assassinate their masters. But it was obviously not true, as if that happened there would have been chaos in the mansion due to the current condition of the sole daughter of the Duke of Barasca.
Aside from that, the lady who was sick after consuming something served by the servants would not have stayed in the room calmly as if hiding herself from the outside world. And she would not have said that she did not want her condition to be seen.
Then, Canillas came to his own speculation that the allergy that was currently occurring to her was caused by consuming something that was not served by servants, but herself. And it was highly likely related to herbs that were planted in the back garden of the de Lara mansion.
Recalling the garden was like a treasure for her, it was not impossible for her to study herbal plants and their properties, which made her knowledgeable in this area.
She was indeed not a simple woman. For such a delicate-looking lady, he would admit that she was way more complex than the rough-figured enemies he had faced so far.
However, apart from the lie that had been created by his bold wife, Canillas felt relieved as he got the answer behind her condition at the right moment, that she was suffering from an allergy due to herbal plants, not the weather in Archess.
As long as it was not caused by a factor that was not possible to change, such as the weather, he could take her back to his home and she would not have any other reasons to argue anymore.
He would not dissolve their marriage and leave her here in Terra. He would take her back to Archess either on her willingness or not, as she was the wife that he had chosen no matter what happened, as for that reason he had come to face her in person.

When Joanna opened her eyes, she found the sunlight that penetrated her room through the window was no more. Instead, the room was blanketed with a warm glow of orange-red light that was emitted by the oil lamps and candles that were lit.
As she adjusted her eyes, she heard a soft noise behind her, like the whirring sound of paper. Turning her head to the direction of the source of the sound, she found a man sitting on a chair next to the window, which could not be seen as the curtains were drawn closed.
His head was lowered and he seemed to be immersed in the story of whatever book that he was reading and was placed on the table in front of him.
As if sensing that he was being perused, the man lifted his head up to meet the eyes of the person who was observing him. Finding the man fixing his eyes on her, Joanna was jittery and slowly drifted her eyes away from his, settling them on the ceiling above her.
Why did he stay in her room? How long had he been here? Did he watch her while she was sleeping? Did he do something to her when she was sleeping?
Joanna turned alert yet felt nervous and embarrassed at the same time, finding a man in her room while she was sleeping. She subconsciously gripped the blanket that was wrapped around her body tightly.
Although the man was her husband, Joanna, who had never been in the bedroom with any man before, thought that it was not appropriate. But she could not make any complaints as she would be laughed at if she did that. Who would stand up for her when others knew that the man who was in the bedroom with her was her husband?
While her restless mind raced with question after question, the deep voice belonging to the man interrupted the trail of the questions inside her head.
