The Girl Who Hacked The Magic System-Chapter 105 - See-you-laters and arrival
Chapter 105: Chapter 105 - See-you-laters and arrival
"I will miss you, Lovelace."
"We will be seeing each other every weekend, Aurea."
"I know, but I will miss you the whole week, from the moment I set off to school to the moment I’m back."
"You will be very busy at the school, you know."
"Not really. If the entrance exam is anything to go by, the standard of general knowledge is a big downgrade from Earth. I will be bored to the bones there."
"You know that you don’t need to conform to what they teach. There’s a lot to learn and train during those years."
"It isn’t like I can train freely in the school. I can’t really use a lot of my magic in front of others, and I won’t have a private training space."
"Won’t you? I thought that you would, from what Lady Lillian was talking about the other day."
"Huh? What was she talking about?"
"Why don’t you ask her?"
"I will, later."
I hold her even tighter than I was before. I’m recharging my Lovelace energy this morning by not letting go of her.
This is my last day officially living in the Palace, after all. In the afternoon I’ll take off to the Royal Academy, as tomorrow morning is the start of the academic year.
"You weren’t that clingy before, Aurea."
"I know. But I am now."
"You are sounding like a child... No, like a teenage girl."
"I am a teenage girl."
"No, you’re not. Your body’s puberty is still to come."
"Do you dislike it so much?"
"No, I don’t dislike it. I just don’t know how to deal with it. The whole mental age versus body age makes everything too complicated. And your behavior makes it even harder for me."
I finally let go and sat in a way more proper way for a princess.
"I’m sorry; I’ve been too overboard in my behavior lately."
"It’s okay. I get it that your body is giving you a lot of headaches as well."
"Yeah... most of the time I don’t even notice it, and when I see it, I’m like this."
"Just take care while you are at the academy, okay?"
"Oh, don’t worry about that. The other students there will be around my biological age. In my eyes, they are too young."
"And you are an adult, I know. They won’t see you as an adult, though, and you are beautiful enough to warrant some attention."
"Did I hear that right? Do you think I’m beautiful, Lovelace?"
"Of course I do! It’s an undeniable fact; you ARE beautiful."
"So, do I have a chance?"
Lovelace sighs and puts her hand to her forehead.
"I won’t answer that before you have an adult body."
"That’s not a denial."
"..."
I’m smiling from ear to ear now. She basically admitted that I might have a chance when I’m an adult. I’ll hold her to her word.
"Thank you, Lovelace. You just made my day a lot better now, and the prospect of being in the Academy all those years doesn’t seem so bad now."
"That’s good. Now, finish your breakfast properly; I have work to do."
"How is the whole Court Wizard thing going on?"
"It’s been quite uneventful. My main assignment has been to guard the King so the vampire doesn’t attack him again, and in the meanwhile I’ve been launching some investigation to track him down."
"Any success on that side?"
"No. There are certain areas in the city that block any form of magical perception. Most of them are inside or under buildings that belong to the Church."
"Could the Church be hiding him?"
"That’s a working hypothesis, yes. If he is in the city at all, he might have escaped to neighboring towns."
"It makes sense... but he will have to feed at some moment, won’t he?"
"Yes. He has to feed at least twice per week, I think."
"So, if he isn’t feeding on the King, it means that he found another victim. Why don’t you focus on trying to track down potential victims and then use that knowledge to pinpoint his location?"
"Aurea, you’re a genius."
"Hehehe... Of course I am. Oh, and please. If you find him, try to set the chase time for the weekend, please? I would like to participate in any exciting stuff."
"Okay, okay. I won’t promise anything, but I’ll try."
:::
"Welcome, Princess Aurea Annes. I’m Emma Hicks, the residence hall director of the Royal Academy of East Rising. I will now guide you to your quarters."
"Thank you, miss Hicks."
The two maids that came with me in the carriage are in charge of carrying my stuff, so I just follow the hall director as she guides me.
Having other people take care of my stuff just feels wrong, but the etiquette teacher, my mothers, and even Lovelace drilled into me the need for acting my social status.
"This building here is the residence for the female students. Male students are forbidden from entering here, and having one within your quarters will get you into trouble. Am I clear?"
"Yes, miss Hicks."
She guides me to an apartment on the ground floor and opens the door with a key she then hands to me along with a few others on a large keychain.
"These are the keys to your quarters. Of course, I have a copy of each one of them."
"Thank you, miss Hicks."
"Here, let me show you."
She enters the apartment right after me. It’s a luxurious apartment, with plenty of space for just one student to live.
I can see how the student is expected to have a dedicated maid to take care of chores to maintain a space like this.
This room is a large living room, and there is a small kitchen at the side. The Academy serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the canteen, so this kitchen is more for the maid’s use and for eventual tea parties or stuff.
’Tea’ parties, as there is no tea in this world.
The main bedroom is also lavishly furnished, and on the bed there is a box.
"There are your uniforms. Tomorrow right after breakfast there will be the welcome lecture at the main hall. I wait for you there."
