THE GOD EATER-Chapter 143: Good Question.
As allergic to stupid questions as he was, he still answered the question, saying, "This is obviously a grade 3 merit mission. I should expect you to know this if you checked the mission you were signing up for at all."
"That aside, since this is a grade 3 mission, you will earn 1 grade 3 merit point for every rank 3 enemy that you kill. If the rank 3 enemy has a status, you will merit points that are equal to 1 multiplied by their status."
"So if you fight and kill someone with a Dao Status of level 2, you will earn 6 grade 3 merit points. If you kill an enemy with a Dao Status of level 3, you will earn 9 grade 3 merit points."
Then he looked down at the lady who asked the question and said, "Is that clear?"
But she shook her head and said, "What if we kill a rank 4 being?"
This time, Greg laughed. He pointed at her and laughed as he said, "You? Kill a rank 4 cultivator? What a joke."
But Amelia coughed beside him, so Greg quickly stopped laughing. He calmed down and said, "Right. A rank 4 being. You will earn ten times as many merit points as a rank 3 enemy with their status."
Then he yawned and said, "I hope that is all you have to ask me. Your questions are boring and have made me sleepy. Maybe I should just go and sleep. That will surely make all of these, whatever it is, worthwhile."
However, the lady refused to give up after everything he had done. She sneered as she said, "I have more questions."
Greg beckoned for her to speak while saying with nonchalance, "Go ahead. I doubt that it’s about anything important, but feel free, nonetheless, to waste my time. Fortunately, I won’t have to waste many brain cells answering your question."
Loki saw this and shook his head inwardly as he said to himself, "What happened to yes or no as an answer? You didn’t have to say all that stuff. You could have just said yes, and everyone would be happy. But you went out of your way to offend everyone."
The lady was thoroughly offended, but she kept her cool as she said, "What about the merit points to earn for each person we recruit?"
In response, Greg chuckled and said to everyone, "See? What did I tell you? At the end of the day, it was about something trivial."
After mocking her to everyone else, he turned back to her and said, "The reward is the same as that of a rank 3 cultivator. One person will earn you one grade 3 merit point. It is, after all, a grade 3 mission."
Then he shook his head and teared up a little bit as he said, "What an amusing bunch. I didn’t think I had to spell that out to anyone. What a day."
The lady was still seething as she said, "Can we take the fight to the Martial Body Sect and attack them instead of waiting for them to attack us?"
This question made Greg roll his eyes and say, "Of course, you can. How do you not know that? Maybe I have overestimated your intellectual acumen."
But she wasn’t deterred by his insults. She had noticed that he hated stupid questions or any question in general, so she began racking her brain looking for questions to ask.
She said, "Can we build our own city and use it to recruit people?"
She expected another snide comment before Greg decided to answer her question. But this time, he paused and looked at her with a gaze full of surprise.
His voice was full of disbelief as he said, "That’s actually a good question. I didn’t expect any good questions out of you lot at all. You have impressed me, so you should be glad."
He even clapped as he said, "That’s indeed a good question. The answer is that yes, you can establish your posts.
"I believe it is a stupid idea to waste time doing that. But your question is still a valid question. Which makes me wonder how you came up with it. Did someone tell you?"
Before she could say anything to defend herself, Greg turned to everyone and said, "Who helped her with that question? Show yourself if you did. I promise not to punish you. In fact, I will praise you for coming up with the question."
When no one spoke up to claim the credit, Greg became angry. He scoffed and folded his arms angrily across his chest as he said, "Do you think I will be fooled by making her ask the question? I will tell you now that I am not so easy to deceive. So show yourself now."
He glared at everyone and said, "They say that collective wisdom is good, but this much wisdom from all of you is trash."
He saw that some people wanted to argue with him, so he said with overflowing confidence, "Trust me when I say it is trash. Your combined wisdom is not as good as the wisdom I have in my pinkie, so it has to be trash."
At this point, many people had had enough of him for the nearest mission. So some people stepped forward to beat him up.
Amelia saw that the people had reached their limit and that the conversation was about to become a violent conversation with their fists. In order not to lose the new recruits, she decided to step in and break up the fight before it started.
Despite being outnumbered, she was stepping in to protect the new recruits, not to prevent Greg’s demise. If they knew as much as she knew, they wouldn’t have dared to fight him as recruits.
She coughed and raised her voice as she said, "That will be enough for the question and answer session. I have assigned you to your posts, so it is time to leave."
