THE GOD EATER-Chapter 97: Already Enemies.
It was clear to the three of them that Skarg was determined to apprehend that person. Simon, who had something else to say but wasn’t sure about its reception, decided to use this opportunity when their father was in a good mood, to say what he wanted.
He asked tentatively, "Father, what are we going to do about Death Envoy’s attempt on my life? It is clear that the slave boy made a deal with her, and she is supporting him."
Skarg shook his head and said, "It is indeed clear that she is working with that slave and has made a deal with him, but it is not clear whether she truly wanted to kill you."
"Trust me, if she wanted to kill you, you wouldn’t have returned that night. I believe that she did all of that just to put up a show for the slave."
Simon wasn’t satisfied with this, so he asked, saying, "So what if it was all a show? The fact remains that she disregards us and dares to move against us. Are we going to let it go?"
In response, Skarg chuckled and said, "I know what you’re trying to do. You’re trying to make me angry. You should know better than to think that you can rile me up and make me make decisions based on my emotions."
"What you should have appealed with is something that benefits me, such as the fact that she might be an obstacle in my path of becoming the city lord. If you had said that, I would have no choice but to take her as my enemy."
His words made Simon smile and say, "But what use will that be? After all, you’ve already regarded her as your enemy."
This time, Skarg laughed and said, "Good one."
He even clapped just to show how amused he was by Simon’s words.
After laughing, he said solemnly to them, "You’re right. She is already my enemy. It is also probably the case that she already considers me her enemy, too. This would explain why she would dare act against us."
"So I must retaliate, but I have to take her seriously. After all, she isn’t like Rusty, who only has a level 3 status. She has a level 4 status, so she has to be taken seriously. This means that I must hit her hard and fast with the sole goal of killing her."
"As for that slave boy, I think there is something fishy about him. The way he won all of that money during the initiation program is suspicious. If not for the fact that he is already a forger, I would have believed that he was a cultivator of Luck Pathway."
"Anyway, continue to keep track of him. If you find anything suspicious about him, you can report back to me. If you don’t, then we should wait until he reaches rank 3 before we make a move on him. That way, he can maximize his value for us."
Simon bowed his head slightly and said, "Yes, father."
If Simon hadn’t been attacked that night, Skarg wouldn’t have cared that Death Envoy wanted Loki. He would have let her have Loki because he wouldn’t want to antagonize her for no reason.
Death Envoy is just too powerful to mess with without a good reason, and Loki isn’t a good enough reason to offend someone as powerful as her. But if Death Envoy is already making a move against him, as she did when she orchestrated the attempt on Simon’s life, then all bets are off, and he has to prepare to fight her.
With that sorted out, Skarg turned to Slav and smiled broadly as he said, "How is the genius of our family? How’s your preparation for your advancement?"
Slav looked in pain as he replied, saying, "I am trying my best. My trainer is also pushing me. I’m sure that I will be able to reach 100% energy saturation rate soon. Then I will be able to advance to rank 2."
Skarg walked over to him and patted him on his shoulders before he said, "Well done. You need to be in top shape for your listing. If you are listed as having advanced to rank 2 in a little over a year, then your share value will be very high."
Skarg’s words were spoken with good intentions, but Slav still felt a sting of emotional pain when he heard them. This was because Skarg had said that his share value would be well if he advanced to rank 2 a little after a year after awakening, which means that someone else who had awakened at the same time as him but had already advanced to rank 2 in less than a year must be way more valuable than whatever he could ever achieve.
The worst part is that he has been trying his best and training day and night. Yet, his energy manipulation skill is only crawling forward. It is not moving as fast as he wants it to be.
This means that no matter how hard he works, the gap between him and a certain someone who has already advanced to rank 2 will only continue to increase daily. No amount of wealth will help him make up for the gap because no amount of wealth will help him advance to rank 2 without meeting all the requirements, especially the one for skill.
He was not satisfied with this, so his face fell, and he said to his father, "But father, how did that slave train his energy manipulation skill so fast?"
His question made Skarg smile and say, "There are two reasons I can think of for his fast improvement in skill. They are innate talent and a high Dao Heart."
"You should remember that your instructor during the initiation program already noticed that his mind was more powerful than everyone else. I’m guessing that’s why he was able to free himself from the slave shackles."
