Chapter 429: Chapter 429 - Before The Bandit King’s Battle [ Part 5 ]

"How do I operate this thing?" Peter asked as he looked at the numerous places of the cannon.

To Peter, the cannon was something out of understanding. It looked so basic with its long structure and had a giant hole on the front, but Peter couldn’t tell what to do with it.

"You have to light that rope and it will blast it."

"Okay, let’s do it." Peter said and was about to light it.

"Wait! We still need to prepare the cannon. Otherwise it won’t work." I stop Peter who was being impatient for no reason.

"Alright, do it quickly!" The guy ordered and I deadpan at that.

I call some of my own soldiers, "Prepare the cannon."

They came and lifted the barrel before filling the muzzle with black powder and wadding it. The soldiers brought one stone ball with them and put it inside the muzzle.

Finale, they used a stick to place it roughly inside the barrel and finished it.

"That’s it?" Peter smirked, "It doesn’t take too long. Just enough for the enemy to come in and skewer us with their swords."

"If you’re planning on using this on ordinary soldiers, don’t." I tell Peter, "This thing could topple a building from afar with great power."

"Is that so? Let me check it then." Peter said and went to light it again.

"Hold your horses!" I stop him by the shoulders, "What do you think you’re doing?"

"What do you think you’re doing by stopping me?"

"Okay, first of all, this cannon and its legitimacy are mine so don’t get any funny ideas." My words pop a vein on the young Viscount, "And second, do you even know what will happen when you start it?"

"Where it could land and who it could hit? And to make it sound more vital, this things range is very long, it could go past the Religias household and hit a civilian place."

"What do you think the causality will be then?"

Peter, who was about to scream, closed his mouth when he heard Henry’s latter part. Because as connective he is, this was still another person’s region and that too of an Earl.

Unlike Baron and Viscounts, Earl’s were a level up and true practitioner of nobility. They couldn’t be disregarded so easily.

"Alright... I understand." Peter grumbled and stayed quiet.

"Before we start, anyone have any question?... Lord Seman." I point to Seman who raised his hand.

"What is the black thing you put at first?"

"That’s black powder, think of it as the fuel for blasting the ball. It’s an explosive powder that works similar to sigmat crystal explosion, but at a much lower cost and also power and range in that matter."

"Oh!" Seman’s face lit up, "Why did I not know about this black powder?"

"Because it didn’t exist before, now it does and its origins are a bit iffy and secretive so that’s all I can answer at this point about it."

Seman nods, "I understand and what’s the thing you put after the black powder?"

"That’s called wadding. It’s placed between the ball and the black powder so that when it explodes, the force behind it works perfectly for the push the ball needs."

Seman put a hand on his chin and nods with eyes closed, "That’s good, I understand it."

"Anyone else?"

An Earl who hasn’t said much about me put his hand up, "And the ball? Is it thing that will attack?"

"Yes, that’s the shot that will launch out of the cannon and attack its target. The stone ball is heavy and strong in nature so it won’t break with the initial force and will pack quite a punch at the target."

"Anything else?" I say and a few other nobles raised their hands as I answer their questions.

I heard Peter grumble beside me as I waste time answering a few questions of the same nature multiple times. This weren’t high school students of the future era, so I needed to treat them like rich old bastards with elementary level IQ.

But the most childish was Peter. I could see that he wanted to learn about it, but he didn’t ask himself, he whispered to the other nobles to ask for him.

But it’s okay, it’s not like they were asking how its build... well, they did but I didn’t tell them.

Because its creation was still a product of the kingdom and only Abigail had the power to decrypt it... and frankly, I don’t know the details.

"Can we shoot it already?" Peter groaned as he lost his patience.

"Alright... since Viscount Peter clearly can’t hold it anymore, let’s do it." I say as some of the nobility smile, those that turned to my side now.

"Viscount Peter" I call the guy, "May I ask what nature your sigmat is?"

"Quartz." Peter said, "I have the ability to produce, restructure, contro-"

"Good to know." I nod, interrupting his long explanation, "Lord Seman, would you give us an empty space for testing it?"

"Of course" Seman pointed to a large space at the courtyard, "Would that work?"

"Yes" I nod and turn to Peter, "Viscount, create a pillar made from your sigmat attribute and do try to make it the hardest you can."

"You want to try it against my sigmat?" Peter smirked, "Do you even know how strong my ability is? It can withstand powerfu-"

"Would you start already."

"Grrr... alright." Peter said as he thought otherwise, ’Oh, I’m going to make you a strong pillar. I’m going to make it so strong that you can’t even scratch it.’

Peter looked at the spot Seman pointed and focused on his ring. The blue ring glowed brightly as the ground Peter looked at broke and something penetrated out of it.

The ground shook as the quartz penetrated to the sky and build up to 15 meters high. The pillar wasn’t just long, but it was very thick too. The suns light filtered through the almost white transparent quartz and shone beautifully.

"Woah!"

"That’s quite tall, I’ve heard that lord Peter’s Quartz is very tough."

"It looks very strong, I’m sure it is much stronger than any wall I’ve seen."

Peter secretly smiled hearing the praises.

"You did good, Lord Peter." I said, "That would work."

’Hah! Let’s see how long your courage takes you.’ Peter thought as a drop of sweat fell.

"Point the cannon at the pillar." I order the soldiers.

They take the crystal and quickly place it. The barrel pointing straight at the Quartz pillar.

"Lord Peter, please." I gesture him towards the cannon.

Peter smiled and proudly walked to the cannon before lighting the rope. The rope slowly burns down to the touch hole as I say, "Oh yeah, make sure to be careful of the recoil."

"What?" Peter asked, but it was already late.

"BANG!"

The black powder exploded as the cannon ball shot out. The recoil of the explosion immediately moving the cannon back and directly hitting Peter.

"Argh!"

Peter grumbled as he fell back, holding his stomach. He thought somebody would help him, but all were focused on something else.

Peter who was in great pain, lost everything when he looked at his pillar.

The pillar of quartz stood tall. But at its head, the cannon ball pierced through half way and cracks spread around the surrounding space.

"Huh... that was... quite powerful."

"Really strong."

"It was even able to enter Lord Peter’s pillar."

"Ahn..." I sigh, "Your pillar is quite strong Lord Peter. The cannon ball only broke through half of it. Quite strong, indeed."

Peter didn’t hear any of it as his focus was still on the pillar.

’My... My strongest pillar...’
