The Goddess Made A Mistake Again-Chapter 435 - Looking For Company [ Part 1 ]
Chapter 435: Chapter 435 - Looking For Company [ Part 1 ]
Half an hour went by as we’ve left the huntress’s party.
I’ve been keeping my eyes open for any traps or surprises in the way and didn’t find anything. Even the huntress’s party who had been following us closely before completely stopped after leaving us at the border.
There really was no sight of them.
’It really looks like we’ve left the boundaries of their village... but still, why didn’t they follow us?’
’Does she know that I could see all her people above or is there something in this part of the woods that even they are afraid of?’
The Huntress didn’t show any vibe of fear or guilt when she left us, so it might just be me who’s thinking too far.
After riding so far, I still haven’t found any trace or symbols that would indicate that someone was here. The forest possibly couldn’t hide the trace of 15 thousand plus soldiers, there is bound to be something.
But still, I didn’t find anything and maybe that’s why I was thinking so much.
Did I do it again?
Did I fucking lose directions!
If I did and instead of going ahead, I was actually going the other way, then it would definitely be a huge problem for me.
Who knows? Maybe none of those three even ventured into the woods and I had winged it completely wron-
"Hmm!" I see something ahead that immediately catches my attention.
"Slow down, there’s something up ahead." I say and Jacob spread my order around.
Slowing down a bit, we came close to what I saw and it was a good sign.
A dead body of a soldier.
I know how that sounds like, but it’s better for it to be a dead body than nothing at all.
Lucian stepped down from his horse and checked the body.
"It belongs to the royal army. He’s been dead for a while and there’s no one with him."
"The Royal Army... Miss Velma and Marva’s!" Keira said and her voice was both excited and a bit scared. "They should be nearby."
"That would be the case. Anything else from the body?" I ask and Lucian checked further before pointing to the left side.
"The blood trail leads there. Maybe that’s where the body came from."
"Alright, we’ll go that way then." I say and Lucian got up before we followed the blood trail.
And voila! More dead bodies!
This time, it wasn’t just the royal army but there were bandits too.
They laid down on the woods, all dead. Checking their bodies, the outcome was the same, fight between two forces and they killed each other.
The blood trail went further and before long we got out the forest and found the roadside. But that wasn’t the only thing we found.
There were many dead bodies lying over pools of blood. The bodies belonging to both the Royal soldiers and the bandits that wore the same clothes as those from the forest.
"There was an ambush here." I say, "Or they tried to ambush but failed."
"Yes, instead of the few poor royal soldiers, there are more dead bandit bodies. They probably thought of ambushing and cutting away, but couldn’t do it." Keira said, "But why was there an ambush here?"
"I could have asked, but all of them look pretty dead to me." Jacob said, "Body and wounds look fresh too, so the main army shouldn’t be far from here."
"Yes, they probably continued their march after stopping the ambush party." I say and look at the road, "They went by the road and didn’t take any detours, I think."
"You sure about that?" Jacob asked, "If I was ambushed, I would definitely take a detour."
"That’s you we’re talking about; this is Lady Velma." I tell him, "She’s calm, confident and the strongest person in the party. Surely she wouldn’t be deterred by an ambush, what do you think Keira?"
Keira nods, "It’s just as you say. Miss Velma wouldn’t step down from such a simple thing. She would continue on through the road until she found her mission and completed it."
"And there’s Miss Marva as well, she wouldn’t like taking a detour and being ashamed." Keira smiled awkwardly.
"Hmm, true." Lucian nods.
"Wait, am I the only one here who thinks of taking a detour?" Jacob asked, "Now that just makes me look bad."
"That doesn’t make you look bad, Jacob." I pat his shoulder, "That’s just who you are."
"...That’s not comforting."
"It wasn’t meant to be." I say and turn towards the road, "Well, since we have a location now, let’s hurry and catch up, shall we?"
"Yes!" Keira said and jumped up on her horse. Jacob and Lucian didn’t stand by and got up as our whole party headed for the road.
...
"Slash!" Marva’s needle like sword stabbed another bandit as she looked ahead for more.
"Huh? That’s it?" She said as she saw all her enemies were already dead.
"I wanted to fight a bit more."
"Control yourself!" Marva heard the annoying voice, "We are here for an objective."
"And I am doing that. Killing bandits is our objective, right." Marva answered crudely.
"That may be, but our ultimate objective is to root out all of the bandit king’s forces for good." Velma said while she controlled her vines to capture most of the bandits, "We cannot let them escape and regroup later."
"Alright, alright, just stop talking."
Velma looked away from Marva and controlled her vines to bring a few of the captured bandits in front of her.
"Where is your base?"
"We won’t eve- ARGH!" The bandit screamed the next second, "It’s there, it’s there! I swear to the goddess; the base is right there." The bandit pointed ahead.
"You idiot! Why did you tell her?"
"Now, they know of our base." They were lying.
Velma could tell.
Her vines, which could sense the vibrations from a wrapped person could discern when a person was lying.
The interesting thing was that, they didn’t lie about the base. But the two who were actually insulting the first bandit were lying about their behavior.
Something was wrong here.
"All our friends will die because of yo-... Argh!" The bandit screamed as the vines tightened around him, "Why... are you... doing this?!"
Velma brought the guy closer, "What are you hiding?"
"Hiding?" The guy’s eyes shook around, "I- I’m not hiding anything."
"Hmm... your base is in that direction?" Velma pointed and the guy nodded, no lie there. "Alright, let’s go and check it out."
"What? Why are you taking me?" The bandits asked.
"We already told you where it is so let us go now."
There was fear in them but not for the reason it should. They were afraid of going to the base.
Velma’s face didn’t change as she heard them, "Either you come with us or you die here, think."
The bandits paled hearing that, "We’ll... come."
"Good!" Marva said, "And if we find any traps ahead... you know what will happen."
The Bandits gulp and they all came towards the base.
It was a long dome like structure with stone works. The place looked quite defendable but the atmosphere around it was very quiet.
"This is it?"
"Yes, yes... now, please let us go." The bandits pleaded.
Velma thought for a moment and said, "Why don’t you go inside first and check it out."
"What! NO!" The bandit shook his head heavily, "I will not go there!"
"No matter what, I won’t go there!"
