The Gourmet Innkeeper: Cooking Monsters in a Fantasy World-Chapter 289: Staff Members in Action
While the Innkeeper and the other powerhouses were outside, the Inn was managed by the remaining staff members: Micc, Tumble, Ranran, and Haurus.
By this time, the Inn was never without a customer anymore. Sometimes, it was only a small group, but the average increased as time went on.
Before this, the Lotus Town Adventurer Team had been keeping the place for themselves. It was why there were always a few dozen people going in and out of the Inn, but they also knew each other.
The Innkeeper did not mind this. He liked these people and had trade partnerships with them. Besides, it was not like he had an abundance of rooms that could comfortably accommodate more than what they were already receiving.
It was just that not long after the Innkeeper left for the extension, there were more and more customers coming in, many of whom weren’t entirely familiar with them.
They were all adventurers though, and it was clear that the place had been spread among them well.
Interestingly, it was not limited to Lotus Town adventurers anymore. There was no way to contain it. After a month of monopoly, people started noticing that the group was leveling up—in terms of strength and wealth—way too quickly.
If it were just one or two teams, it wouldn’t have garnered attention, but an entire guild? Yeah, there was no way. There must have been a trick!
More and more visitors from other towns would come by the Lotus Town adventurer guild and, at some point, got wind of the news of them heading to a ’training ground’. Some openly asked to tag along, while some followed behind the groups.
Anyway, the staff had become more and more proficient with their tasks. The goblins had a bit of a challenge with some guests who liked to look down on them, but fortunately, Micc and they would warn guests that if they made the staff uncomfortable, they could get blacklisted.
Like this, the goblins soon got used to people speaking for them, and it made their hearts full and their courage more and more solid.
So now, even when encountering troublesome customers, they no longer faltered, nor did they appear excessively humble.
’Respect and professionalism is required in the hospitality industry’ the Innkeeper told them before. ’But the image of the staff also reflects the Inn’s. We give back to this world much more than most, and we have saved countless lives. This is our pride, and we must reflect it.’
This was why the two goblins’ heads were now raised, staring straight into arrogant customers’ eyes, ones filled with hostility. There was no doubt that, if this happened outside the inn, the men would’ve slapped the goblins, possibly to death.
"The inn-home is all-full, sir," Tumble said, shivering a bit, but he kept his stance. "Have to stay-wait for room-available, sir."
"Like I said, my name is Buwaya from the Tanggi Mercenary Team," he said, as if everyone was supposed to recognize it. "Your establishment doesn’t want to make enemies of us."
The goblin did not back down and Buwaya raised his hand and poked at the little one’s wide green forehead. "Listen here, I’m not sure you understand. Where’s your owner? What’s a little slave doing talking to customers?!" 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
"Tumble is no slave! Tumble is proper-staff!!"
His tone apparently irked the man, and he raised his hand, prepared to really slap the thing. This person was already well into the toughened stage, and it would definitely hurt a little green goblin—whose race could not go beyond the Awakened level—if not kill him outright.
Pang appeared at the side, prepared to kick the bastard out, but then he saw the goblin’s sharp eyes and also remembered how hard the little one trained in the [Staff Training Room].
One had to know that even if there was no time limit for staff to use the room, it would still take a lot of energy.
Because the creature inside they were fighting was created based on the person training, energy was taken in the stead of the creature too. Normally, people would be exhausted after half an hour inside.
Tumble, before sleeping, would always train for at least an hour, even if he was crawling after that.
The goblin race’s limitation was that they not only had a hard time awakening, with only half having the potential to do so, but they could never pass awakened level either.
However, it did not mean they could not try to make up for their deficiencies in other things. Tumble recognized this and worked hard. Even if he could only stay as an awakened, he could at least surpass most in terms of strength and skills.
The goblin stepped forward instead of passively accepting the slap, used the man’s fat knee to jump up, and slapped his face over and over instead.
"WHATT!?!!" he screamed. Naturally, he wasn’t injured that deeply due to the level differences, but his pride was cut deep and his eyes bloodshot in anger and humiliation. "I’LL KILL YOU, YOU DAMNED SCRAPRAT!!!"
The goblin did not give in. He used his small and agile frame to avoid another hit, using the man’s strong arms as bolster to jump up. He landed on his head and grabbed his hair, pulling it with most of his strength and he even bit part of the man’s face.
"AHHHH! YOU DAMNED SCRAPRAT! AHH!"
The man screamed and even if his injuries were small, the goblin was fast and he built upon small injuries above small injuries.
Buwaya’s people gasped, confused at first, before finally stepping forward to intervene. However, a stone wall appeared in front of them, and a fluffy panda stood on top. "Let them be," he said. "Or we will kick you out, too."
While the men were deliberating what to do, the battle on the other side of the wall continued.
At some point, Buwaya decided to ram the back of his head, thinking the goblin would be hit instead of his face. Unexpectedly, just before his head touched the ground, the goblin jumped back with impressive agility.
BANG!
Buwaya’s eyes reddened due to the pain and humiliation. Unable to stop himself anymore, energy surrounded him, intending on using his deadliest skill to obliterate this damned green thing!
And it was only then that Pang could finally kick the bastard out, transforming into a big teddy bear that literally grabbed the bastard’s feet and threw him out the barrier, never to be able to enter again.
