Chapter 226: Chapter 226: Yvette Aston Is the Esteemed President’s Wife

"Mr. Grant..." Yvette Aston got into the car, feeling a bit nervous.

Was Ethan Grant mad at her?

"Weren’t you dismissed?" Ethan Grant reminded Yvette.

Yvette made a sound of acknowledgment, only then realizing it.

"Then what should you call me?" Ethan’s face clouded as he asked.

"But... that’s not right either." Yvette thought that the title was a bit embarrassing.

"Does it burn your tongue?" Ethan was displeased. "Or am I not worthy?"

"No, it’s not that." Yvette quickly waved her hands, looking down at them in a panic. "Are you mad at me?"

Ethan sighed and pulled Yvette into a vengeful kiss. "Why would I be angry?"

Yvette, with flushed ears, glanced around in a panic. They were at the school gate... Luckily, there weren’t many people.

"Did Harrison Sterling come to find you?" Yvette asked softly.

"Got wings now? Contacting Harrison Sterling behind my back?" Ethan held Yvette’s hand with one hand while driving with the other.

"Just... a collaboration." Yvette glanced at Ethan sneakily and explained. "The Sterling Family wants to establish a foothold in the Meridia Market, and partnering with Grant Group can accomplish that effortlessly."

"So, you sold me out?" Ethan gritted his teeth. "Do you know what this behavior of yours is called? Human trafficking."

Yvette looked at Ethan in astonishment. How was that human trafficking?

"Mrs. Sterling’s biological daughter hasn’t been found yet. They gave me a year’s time, and I thought a year would be enough for you." Yvette explained again.

"Is Harrison Sterling an idiot?" Ethan wouldn’t believe that Harrison would let Yvette go so easily. "What else did you promise him?"

"Just... to be his assistant, to help him secure the Sandbar Village project." Yvette looked down, her voice growing smaller.

Ethan slammed on the brakes, stopping at the roadside.

The Sandbar Village project was managed by the Aston Family, with Stellan being the main person in charge.

Was Yvette planning to compete with Stellan?

Ethan frowned and looked at Yvette. "Are you sure?"

"Fair competition... I didn’t mean to harm the Aston Family, I didn’t mean it that way, I..." Yvette was flustered, her eyes reddened. Whenever she was anxious, she couldn’t explain completely.

She was afraid Ethan would misunderstand her as malicious.

Afraid that Ethan would think, like Harrison Sterling, that she was a venomous snake that couldn’t be fed.

"Unfair competition is fine too." Ethan’s chest ached, and he squeezed Yvette’s hand reassuringly. "Yvette, you don’t owe anyone anything. You’re a victim. The Aston Family might have raised you for twenty-one years, but that’s no excuse for them to harm you."

Yvette breathed rapidly, trying hard to calm her breath.

"I’m afraid... of you getting hurt by Stellan," Ethan feared Stellan would agitate Yvette.

Those past memories were torturous for Yvette every second.

Ethan had Zane look into Yvette’s past experiences in detail, but the information was left sitting there—he didn’t dare to look.

He was afraid he would lose control of his emotions.

Let alone Yvette herself.

"No... I won’t." Yvette shook her head.

Biting her lip, Yvette looked at Ethan firmly. "I want to help you."

She just wanted to be a valuable woman to Ethan.

Ethan’s heart skipped a beat, a feeling of suffocation lingering.

He often blamed himself for not falling in love with Yvette sooner.

He even wished he could go back to six years ago when Yvette’s real identity was exposed, to take her away and give her a home.

Every time he thought of what Yvette had been through, Ethan felt suffocated and powerless.

He couldn’t change the past; he could only strive to create a secure future for Yvette.

"Yvette, do whatever you want. I’ll always be behind you." Ethan initially wanted to say that she didn’t need to do anything, just be with him.

But that statement sounded too selfish.

Instead of restricting and restraining Yvette from blossoming, he should give her enough security to let her bloom freely.

"Whatever you want to do, do it boldly. Win or lose, I’m behind you."

Yvette stared at Ethan blankly, just staring for a long time.

So, this is what it feels like to have someone behind you.

Taking the initiative to give Ethan a kiss, Yvette startled herself. What was she doing?

Her mind was racing, and she wanted to flee.

Ethan was also surprised, but he reacted faster than Yvette, reaching out to hold her head and smiling. "Teasing me and then trying to run?"

"I... I didn’t." Yvette said, blushing and looking down, not daring to look at Ethan.

"Let’s go." Ethan laughed, driving Yvette home. "We’ll settle this at home. Properly explain to me why you want to be Harrison Sterling’s assistant. This is the only thing I disagree with."

Yvette looked at Ethan in fear. "I can’t. I’ve already agreed with President Sterling."

"I don’t agree." Ethan’s face was dark; Harrison Sterling was no good, not much better than Henry Jennings.

"Why..." Yvette sniffed.

"Because I’m your husband." Ethan glared at Yvette.

Yvette felt warm inside, secretly looking out the car window.

Her face was so hot. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

She thought her heart had long been numb, but it was still capable of beating.

"You just said I could do whatever I wanted..." Yvette muttered softly.

"Yvette, is your wing growing?" Ethan ground his back teeth. Was his little wife starting to trick him?

"It’s... what you said." Yvette mustered the courage to speak. "Besides, I’m just going to work, I won’t have any personal interactions with Harrison Sterling. I’ll leave after work."

Yvette raised three fingers to swear.

Seeing Ethan hum twice, Yvette felt unsure.

She decided to act coy...

"Husband..." Why did it feel so awkward to say it?

"The Sterling Family wants a firm foothold in the Meridia Market, there will be competition inevitably. Know your opponent to win, I can be your spy." Yvette looked at Ethan pleasingly.

Ethan was amused by Yvette.

"As the grand CEO of Grant Group, do I need my wife to personally go undercover?"

He raised his hand to rub Yvette’s head, wanting nothing more than to hold her and spoil her.

"Gaining more understanding of the enemy is good too." Yvette puffed her cheeks as she spoke. Why was he so stubborn?

If she were to tell Harrison Sterling now that she wouldn’t be his assistant, given Harrison’s temperament, he might just be furious.

Ethan remained silent.

As a man, how could he not know what Harrison Sterling was trying to do? While speaking ill of Yvette, Harrison’s eyes kept wandering over her, not even as straightforward as Henry Jennings.

At least Henry dared to admit he liked Yvette.

"Ethan..." Yvette grabbed Ethan’s arm with both hands, shaking it, imitating Faye Lawson’s way of ’coquettishly’ pleading.

"..." Ethan parked the car in the slot, drawing in a sharp breath.

Was this acting coy? She pinched his arm red.

Getting out of the car, Ethan opened the passenger door and, without a word, hoisted Yvette up and carried her into the house.

Yvette was left stunned, nervously clutching Ethan’s clothes. "What... What are you doing?"

"You’ve made me mad, I’m going to punish you." Ethan spanked Yvette on the butt. "Begging for mercy is useless, today’s get-out-of-jail-free card is used up."

"Then... can I go be Harrison Sterling’s assistant?"

Ethan took a deep breath, speaking through gritted teeth. "It’s not impossible... Please me and I’ll consider it."
