The Greatest Village Doctor In The World-Chapter 122: Harsh Words Hurt People
"Of course not, I understand your intentions and appreciate them very much; it’s just that I’ve always had the habit of solving problems on my own whenever possible," Ling Feng quickly explained.
When he said this, he wasn’t just being polite. If he really needed money, whether it was Li Shiyun, Mo Jiaolan, Chen Yuhe, he could borrow it merely by asking!
But he always felt that this wasn’t right. Their relationships were originally very pure, and once money was involved, they seemed to take on a different quality.
Li Shiyun took a deep look at Ling Feng and nodded slightly, "Then I’ll keep an eye out for you. As soon as the loan is approved, I’ll notify you right away!"
Early the next day, the people of Shiliu Village suddenly found a dozen trucks in the village, along with many workers wearing safety helmets.
Surprised villagers came out of their homes, watching the vehicles head towards the west end of the village and then stop at Ling Feng’s land!
Realizing that he might be starting another project, many curious folks ran over to watch the excitement.
The contractor for this construction was the same one who had built the breeding farm. Ling Feng had confidence in the head contractor’s abilities; everything would be taken care of without him having to worry at all.
As the villagers watched workers start to level the ground with machinery, the already grown corn was knocked down, leaving many dumbfounded!
In their hearts, the crops were their lifeline, tied to their annual income and sustenance. To see them pushed down so carelessly, it seemed like a waste of resources!
So someone stepped forward and asked, "Ling Feng, what are you up to? The corn would be ready to harvest soon. What a pity!"
"There’s nothing to pity, this bit of grain isn’t worth much," Ling Feng said with a smile.
Wang Yan, standing in the crowd, couldn’t help but ask after hearing him, "You really are throwing your weight around now, huh? What do you want to use this land for?"
"Building houses, growing mushrooms!" Ling Feng answered.
Everyone in Shiliu Village knew about his previous mushroom farming venture, but no one knew exactly how much money he had made from it.
Now seeing that he wasn’t content with just planting in the fields but was actually going to build houses, everyone was very curious.
Old Zhang, who ran the village shop, asked at this moment, "Ling Feng, building houses is no small matter. Looking at this setup, it must be costing you a lot, right?"
"Isn’t it just! Just calculated the cost yesterday, it’s going to take five hundred thousand to finish," Ling Feng said.
"What? Five hundred thousand!"
The villagers all gasped in unison when they heard that!
To build a spacious and well-lit tiled house in the village would cost only about a hundred thousand or so, but he was spending so much money just to grow mushrooms!
"Who would’ve thought, Ling Feng, you’re so rich now?" someone in the crowd asked.
Detecting the hint of envy in their voice, Ling Feng smiled slightly, "Not at all, it’s all cobbled together!"
"Being able to cobble it together is a skill in itself! For us folks, not to mention five hundred thousand, we couldn’t scrape together even fifty thousand!" the person said.
"Exactly, you need to have the skill!"
"Of course, Ling Feng has the skill. Didn’t he meet two beautiful girls in the county town recently?"
"Right, those two ladies looked wealthy at first glance!"
People whispered and gossiped among themselves, and although Ling Feng heard it all, he didn’t retort.
They could think whatever they wanted; he didn’t care in the slightest.
Just then, Old Sun head suddenly came over and asked, "Ling Feng, you’re putting on quite a show here; does that mean you’re going to need to hire people?"
"Yeah, I was just about to ask you, after the constant temperature room is built, would you come and work for me?" Ling Feng asked.
Old Master Sun was somewhat surprised but quickly nodded: "Sure, as long as you don’t mind my old bones and the age!"
Ling Feng laughed: "Look at you, there’s no need for any heavy physical work here, it’s all automated. You just need someone to look after things!"
When the people present heard this, they all felt a bit of regret, cursing themselves for not asking sooner. Otherwise, this cushy job would not have gone to Old Master Sun!
What they didn’t know was that Ling Feng had this all planned out well in advance, with no intention of hiring anyone else!
As the construction project unfolded, many men and women, young and old from Shiliu Village, came by. While they watched the commotion, they were also whispering among themselves.
Li Yumei had come with her child as well, but she didn’t go near the site, watching from the roadside instead, astonished that Ling Feng could cause such a stir.
She hadn’t been watching for long when she abruptly felt as if someone was looking at her. She turned to glance around.
Turns out that it wasn’t just one person watching her—many villagers looked at her with strange expressions!
Li Yumei was curious when suddenly Widow Wang from next door came up to her: "Yu Mei, you are so fortunate!"
"What’s the matter, Aunt Wang?"
Li Yumei was startled. Widow Wang was notoriously aggressive in the village. Although their houses were next to each other, they barely interacted because Yu Mei knew this woman was eccentric and could start a row over nothing at all.
Now she approached with a secretive air and made such an intriguing comment.
Widow Wang snickered. "Still playing dumb? Ling Feng got rich, and you get to bask in his glory!"
"Aunt Wang, don’t talk nonsense!" Li Yumei said, her face turning red in a rush.
But Widow Wang wasn’t interested in dropping the subject. She looked at Yu Mei with a smile: "Won’t admit it? Everyone in the village knows about you two. Only someone as pretty as you could entice him. Others wouldn’t stand a chance even if they tried!"
Li Yumei was astounded upon hearing this, and after a flicker of panic in her eyes, she responded angrily, "What do you mean by that, Aunt Wang?"
Seeing her displeased, Widow Wang withdrew her smile and said coldly, "I don’t mean anything much. It’s common for young widows to be unable to keep to themselves. These days it’s not unheard of for a wife to find someone else the day after her husband dies!"
"You!"
Li Yumei’s face flushed bright red instantly, as Widow Wang’s words were as venomous as a knife stabbing straight into her heart!
Perhaps sensing her mother’s mood change, the little girl in Li Yumei’s arms squirmed and suddenly burst into tears!
Ling Feng, who was observing the construction from a distance, heard the cry and immediately looked back. Noticing Li Yumei’s off expression and the redness around her eyes, he promptly walked over!
Without giving it much thought, he first took the child in his arms and then asked, "What’s wrong?"
Li Yumei, with a red ring around her eyes, bit her lip and remained silent, uncertain how to explain the situation to him.
Widow Wang, on the other hand, did not hesitate to make a big deal out of it, smiling at Ling Feng: "This child really takes after you, doesn’t even seek others out!"
Sensing the sarcasm in her tone, Ling Feng glanced at her: "Aunt Wang, what did you say to Yu Mei?"
"I didn’t say much, just wanted to know when we’ll be having your wedding candy. And I must say, Ling Feng, you’ve got quite the eye. Though she’s a widow with a child, just look at that face, that figure, tsk tsk, you’re certainly not losing out!" Widow Wang said suggestively, winking and grimacing.
Getting the implication, Ling Feng responded: "Aunt Wang, you can be reckless with food, but you can’t be reckless with words!"
"Come on, you’re already living at Yu Mei’s place, do you think everyone around is blind? What’s there to hide?" Widow Wang scoffed playfully.
