The Greatest Village Doctor In The World-Chapter 38: The Use of Wang Cai
The stars in their courses, the glow from the fire gradually weakened until it finally went out completely, and Ling Feng had fallen asleep, dreaming of embracing beauties on either side, with several of them taking turns to kiss his cheeks.
He greatly enjoyed this feeling, wholly satisfied, feeling like he was even happier than an emperor.
But after a while, Ling Feng suddenly felt someone tugging at his clothes and woke up from the beautiful dream with a start!
Looking up, he saw Wang Cai gazing at him with bright eyes, his long tongue wet and slobbery!
Touching his own face, Ling Feng immediately sat up, "Damn, was it you licking me just now?"
Wang Cai nodded, then turned his head to look outside the cave!
"What does that mean? Is there something going on outside?"
Ling Feng got up, wiped his face in a hurry, and tiptoed to the cave entrance.
He immediately saw a flashlight flickering in the dark forest outside, someone was hurrying through the woods!
Looking down at the time on his mobile phone, it was three o’clock in the morning, and it would be another hour before daylight would start to break!
"How odd, who would be entering the mountains this early?" Ling Feng mused to himself.
Petting Wang Cai on the head, he understood what the animal meant; it had sensed something outside and immediately warned him.
Watching the flashlight move further away, Ling Feng hesitated for a moment but decided to follow!
He had a sudden intuition in his heart that he would definitely find something if he followed that person!
So, a man and a wolf left the cave and, under the cover of nightfall, followed the beam of the flashlight!
Traveling at night was uncomfortable, especially since Ling Feng could not turn on any light, and he was not at all familiar with the terrain of these woods.
Fortunately, Wang Cai was there, and seemed to realize this, leading the way for Ling Feng. Whenever they encountered a difficult path, the wolf would immediately stop, then wag its tail, indicating the direction to move forward.
Ling Feng thought to himself that Wang Cai was truly a great help and resolved to take good care of him when they got back.
But he overlooked one thing: wolves are naturally pack animals, yet Wang Cai was a lone wolf; there had to be a reason for that!
As the sky gradually brightened, tracking became a little easier, but in order not to alarm the person ahead, Ling Feng had to maintain some distance.
Fortunately, after crossing two mountain ridges, there were no more Gao Shan in front of them, just a slope covered with green grass!
Seeing this, Ling Feng immediately stopped and said to Wang Cai, "Wait, let him go. Now no matter where he goes, I can see everything!"
Wang Cai stopped immediately upon hearing this, squatting on the ground, its ears turning this way and that, picking up sounds from around them.
Although the sun had not risen yet, visibility was already high, and Ling Feng could now see that the person was the old man from yesterday!
He now felt glad that he had followed, as the old guy was entering the mountain before dawn, seemingly to pick mushrooms!
Indeed, after the old man went down the slope, he stood there looking into the distance, drew something on his hand for a while, then proceeded to walk forward.
From his position at the mountain summit, Ling Feng had a very broad view, so he simply sat down on the ground and sneered, "I’d like to see where exactly you old man find those mushrooms!"
Upon hearing this, Wang Cai turned its head to look at him, its eyes filled with confusion, clearly not understanding what he meant.
"I wasn’t talking to you, let’s rest for a while before we continue," Ling Feng said with a laugh.
The old man had climbed the grassy slope, and just before reaching the top, he suddenly stopped in his tracks and began searching through the grass.
Ling Feng squinted his eyes, "So you’ve found mushrooms just like that?"
Sure enough, the old man suddenly bent down, picked something up from the ground, and cheerily put it into the basket on his back!
Ling Feng found it very strange, how did this guy know there were mushrooms there?
After watching closely for a moment, he suddenly had a flash of insight!
The grass where the old man was looked different from the other areas!
While the grass everywhere else was emerald green, the spot where he had found the mushrooms was a dark green!
Because of the distance, it was ironically clearer to see. It was a circular area with the surrounding wild grass having a somewhat deeper color. If you didn’t look carefully, you wouldn’t notice it!
Although he had detected something fishy, Ling Feng still didn’t move, sitting quietly there, watching the old man pick a few more mushrooms before heading off into the distance.
"I guess you’ll head to the next patch of darker grass," Ling Feng muttered to himself.
As expected, the old man hurried on for a bit and stopped in that area that had already been targeted under Ling Feng’s watchful gaze.
Ling Feng chuckled, knowing he had seen through the old man’s trick, and then he turned around, "Wang Cai, it’s your time to shine."
Wang Cai, clueless, turned back to look at him with eyes full of confusion.
"Go chase that old geezer away, but don’t bite him. Just scare him off," Ling Feng said.
"Whoosh!"
No sooner had he finished speaking, Wang Cai bolted out, so fast he seemed like lightning!
By the time Ling Feng’s gaze refocused on him, the creature was already in the valley!
Afterward, he heard Wang Cai let out a wolf howl, then charge up the slope, heading straight for the old man!
The old man, initially picking mushrooms contentedly, turned his head after hearing the wolf howl, and immediately screamed for his mother before turning tail to run!
Wang Cai was indeed very smart, fully grasping Ling Feng’s intentions, merely following behind and never closing in for a bite, always maintaining a certain distance from the old man.
Even so, the old man was already scared out of his wits, and threw away his basket, fleeing wildly along the rough slope!
As the man and wolf gradually disappeared from view, Ling Feng snickered, thinking to himself that the old man deserved it for bullying Madam Boss.
He then rose and descended the mountain, first going over to pick up the old man’s basket. Seeing several white mushrooms inside, he smelled them and immediately confirmed they were the type of mushrooms he was looking for.
Pleased with the find, he carried the basket forward. Reaching a patch of darker grass, it only took a few seconds for Ling Feng to spot a flash of white among the grass.
Nearing it, he found a mushroom as big as a bowl and plucked it from the ground immediately!
"Now I understand, this thing grows in a distinctive place, it has characteristics!" Ling Feng spoke to himself.
But this realization wasn’t actually of much use. The old man had been scared away and might return tomorrow, and Ling Feng couldn’t have Wang Cai scare people every day, could he?
Ling Feng’s real intention was to find wild mushrooms, understand their natural habitat, and then figure out a way to cultivate them artificially!
Once that was accomplished, not only could he satisfy Madam Boss’s needs, but he could also supply to the major hotels in the county town. Wouldn’t making money be both easy and delightful?
With these thoughts in mind, Ling Feng quickened his pace, searching through the grass.
