The call came from an unfamiliar number, Ling Feng answered and asked, "Who is this?"

"Old classmate, are you stuck in traffic or what? How come you’re not here yet?" The other side was a languid male voice, tinged with a teasing tone.

Ling Feng was taken aback, "Sorry, I can’t recognize your voice, who’s this?"

"It’s me, Wu Dahai. It’s been a few years, can’t you recognize my voice anymore?" The person on the other end asked with a laugh.

"Oh, it’s you. It has indeed been a while. I really couldn’t tell at first!" Ling Feng said with a laugh.

Wu Dahai was also one of his high school classmates. At the time, they sat in adjacent seats and had a reasonably good relationship.

Knowing it was him, Ling Feng immediately thought of Lan Fei, and then he remembered the plan they had made to meet up with everyone this weekend!

He had been a bit busy these past two days and had completely forgotten about it!

At this point, Wu Dahai on the phone said, "Didn’t Lan Fei send you the address? Everyone is here, just waiting for you. Don’t tell me you haven’t left yet!"

"How could that be? I really did run into a traffic jam, you guys have fun, I’ll be right there!" Ling Feng bluffed and hurriedly hung up the phone.

In a private room on the third floor of the St. Paul Hotel, Wu Dahai hung up and said to the people around him with a laugh, "He really said he was stuck in traffic. I wonder what could be blocking that electric tricycle!"

His comments triggered laughter from everyone else, except for Lan Fei, who just sat there silently, lost in thought.

While everyone was joking around, the door to the private room opened, and a thin young man came in. As soon as they saw him, everyone greeted him, "Yuan, you’re late!"

"Yuan, was there a traffic jam outside?"

The young man known as Yuan shook his head: "No, wasn’t it supposed to be at five? It’s not even time yet, you guys came early!"

As he spoke, he looked around at everyone and then asked, "Isn’t Ling Feng not here yet?"

"Can he compare to you? You drove here, and he’s on a trike. Knowing it’s slow, he should have started earlier," Wu Dahai said, rolling his eyes.

"Don’t say that, maybe he got held up with something," Yuan said with a light smile, naturally taking a seat next to Lan Fei.

"Let’s forget it, with him being the only one missing, let’s order." Wu Dahai spoke and then called the waiter from outside.

Meanwhile, Ling Feng was speeding down the road!

He had checked the message history after hanging up Wu Dahai’s phone and indeed there were time and address details sent by Lan Fei. He had just been too engrossed in learning mushroom cultivation techniques and hadn’t heard a thing!

Riding the electric tricycle to town, by the time he found the St. Paul Hotel, it was already half past five.

The hotel was just starting to have guests arrive. Ling Feng asked for the room number downstairs and headed straight for the private room upstairs.

Upon opening the door, he saw the table was already full of dishes, with a few old classmates enjoying their drinks.

The arrival of Ling Feng interrupted everyone, and after several years apart, they looked at each other, feeling both familiar and somewhat estranged.

After they stated their names, dormant memories were awakened. Apart from Wu Dahai, there was another male classmate named Wu Bi and a female classmate named Xu Lu.

Both had changed a lot, one was the thinnest boy in class and was now a chubby man, while Xu Lu, previously stocky, had transformed into a tall and slender beauty.

After greeting them, Ling Feng managed to match everyone in his mind except for Yuan.

Seeing him sitting next to Lan Fei, with the two noticeably closer to each other than everyone else, Ling Feng couldn’t help but ask, "Yuan, are you also from our class? Why don’t I remember you?"

"Ling Feng, you’ve got it wrong. He’s not our classmate; he’s Lan Fei’s boyfriend. He organized today’s gathering!" Wu Dahai hurriedly explained.

"Oh, I see!" Ling Feng suddenly understood, feeling a faint sting in his heart.

After all, she was the girl he once had feelings for, and now knowing that she had a boyfriend, it was inevitable that he would feel a bit upset.

"Ling Feng, I heard from Lan Fei that you’re living in the countryside now?" Yuan lifted his drink, with a hint of deeper meaning in his inquiry.

"Yes, I’ve been there for several years, always in the village," Ling Feng nodded.

"And you never bothered contacting us sooner. Everyone’s doing quite well in the county town. A mere gesture could have pulled you out of that ditch you live in!" Wu Dahai said with a laugh.

Ling Feng looked at him, unsure whether the comment was sincere or sarcastic, so he responded with a slight smile, "The village is pretty good too, and I have no plans of coming to the county town."

Yuan observed him faintly, then allowed a smile, "I wonder what you do for a living in the village, farming?"

Wu Dahai and the others fell silent, their gazes shifting to Ling Feng.

Noticing this, Ling Feng sensed that Yuan must hold the highest status at the table, and it seemed as though he was being targeted. So, he nodded, "That’s right, scratching a living from the soil."

"Tsk tsk tsk, all of you classmates are doing quite well for yourselves, aren’t you?" Yuan clicked his tongue, speaking with an ironic smile.

Ling Feng could obviously catch the sarcasm, so he asked with a smile, "Lan Fei, what does your boyfriend do?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Ah?" Lan Fei appeared to be lost in thought, and at his question, she seemed caught off guard.

Taking the opportunity to speak, Yuan said, "Me? I’ve opened a company in the county town, have a few dozen people working under me, guess I’m a small boss."

He deliberately spoke modestly, but Wu Dahai eagerly laughed, "How can you be a small boss? Yuan, you’re too modest. With an annual income over ten million, if you’re still a small boss, then what are we considered?"

Ling Feng raised an eyebrow and smiled at Lan Fei, "Congratulations, you’ve caught yourself a golden bachelor!"

Lan Fei didn’t speak, while Yuan wrapped an arm around her shoulders, "Thanks. Fei Fei has been feeling down lately. I arranged this get-together because firstly, it’s lively, and secondly, I wanted to announce some news."

"Oh? Could there be some good news?" Wu Dahai immediately asked.

"That’s right. Next month Lan Fei and I are getting engaged. Everyone must come and show your support!" Yuan announced with pride.

The crowd offered their congratulations, but Ling Feng remained silent, drinking some tea, and feeling that something about Lan Fei’s demeanor was not quite right.

After casually eating a few bites, which tasted as bland as wax, and seeing everyone fawning over Yuan, with no one paying attention to him, Ling Feng also felt uncomfortable, so he stood up and said, "Excuse me, I’m going to the restroom."

As he left the private room, Yuan put down his glass, "I’ll also step out for a bit. You all keep chatting."

Ling Feng entered the restroom, regretting his decision in his heart. Had he known it would be like this, he wouldn’t have rushed over to join the buzz!

But now that he was here, leaving immediately would be impolite, so he decided to wait outside for a while, return when most people in the private room were done eating and ready to disperse, and then take his leave.

However, at that moment, the restroom door was pushed open, and Yuan stepped in with a smile at the corner of his mouth, looking at him, he asked, "What’s wrong? Not feeling so good because your first love is getting married?"

"What do you mean?" Ling Feng furrowed his brows and asked.
