Ling Feng nodded and gathered the remaining meat, wild boar heads and trotters were roughly the same as chicken ribs, not as much meat as domestic pigs, but it seemed a pity to throw them away, so he decided to leave them as snacks for Wang Cai.

At that moment, Chen Yuhe popped her head out of the house, her little face smeared with a few streaks of black soot, "Hey, the water is boiling, when are we going to stew the meat?"

Ling Feng turned his head to look at her and chuckled, "You’re so anxious, I’m coming right away!"

There wasn’t a pressure cooker at home, so they could only stew the tender ribs and loin, which also amounted to over ten pounds, enough for three people.

After the sun had set, Ling Feng’s pot wafted with the intense aroma of meat, and Chen Yuhe breathed in deeply, intoxicated, "It smells so good!"

The black soot was still on her face. Ling Feng, out of a playful spirit, didn’t remind her, and Mo Jiaolan, for some reason, didn’t mention it either.

As the meat was almost ready, Ling Feng couldn’t help but ask, "Shall we have some wine with tonight’s feast?"

"Sure!" Mo Jiaolan immediately nodded.

However, Chen Yuhe looked at him warily, "Drink wine? You’re not planning to get us drunk and do something bad, are you?"

"Silly girl, if I wanted to do something bad, I could do it even if you don’t drink!" Ling Feng laughed.

His remark made Chen Yuhe blush, who then thought to herself that he had a point. After all, she had been staying at his house for two days without any issues, right?

So she nodded, "Alright then, let’s drink a little, who’s afraid?"

With the girls’ permission, Ling Feng immediately ran out the door, heading straight for the village store.

Upon arrival, he also smelled the scent of meat from inside and called out with a smile, "Old Zhang, stop eating meat for a moment, and get me a bottle of liquor!"

Hearing his voice, the owner of the store hurriedly ran from the back room, "Is that you, Ling Feng? Planning to have a big drink and big meal tonight?"

"That’s the plan. What’s the most expensive wine you’ve got?" Ling Feng asked with a smile.

Mo Jiaolan and Chen Yuhe were both daughters of wealthy families, who had tasted all sorts of fine wines, but given the limited options in the village, he would have to settle for the priciest one available.

Old Zhang chuckled, "The most expensive isn’t necessarily the best. I have some twenty-year-old sorghum liquor here; I’ll get you two bottles!"

Saying so, Old Zhang ran to the back and quickly brought out two bottles of white liquor. Owing to the passing of the years, the labels were nearly worn off.

Ling Feng was familiar with this liquor; his father liked to drink it when he was a child. Back then, the community was simple and honest, products were genuine, and this sorghum liquor was a proper grain alcohol, without any adulteration. Sadly, it was no longer for sale in later years.

"Wow, Old Zhang, you still have stock of this?" Ling Feng asked in surprise.

"What stock? I forgot a box in the side room when I was stocking up years ago. Then the side room turned into a woodshed, and I only found it recently. Otherwise, how could it still be here?" Old Zhang laughed.

"This is indeed good stuff, how much?" Ling Feng nodded, ready to pay.

But Old Zhang slapped his hand away, "What are you talking about? You’ve given me meat twice; how could I charge you? Just take it and enjoy!"

"Come on, after being stored for twenty years, you could sell a bottle for a hundred bucks easily outside!" Ling Feng argued.

Old Zhang glared at him, "I never intended to sell it for money. It was for my own drinking. Stop arguing and take it; I have a pot of meat stewing in the back!"

Ling Feng was speechless; Old Zhang was indeed a foodie, too impatient even to talk properly, not wanting to delay his stewing meat.

So without further ado, Ling Feng happily carried the two bottles of aged liquor back home.

The dining table was already set up, with cilantro and minced garlic all prepared. Just by looking, Ling Feng knew this was Mo Jiaolan’s doing; Chen Yuhe would never be so meticulous.

He placed the liquor aside, lifted the pot lid to check, and upon finding the meat thoroughly stewed, he immediately announced that it was time to eat!

A moment later, a large dish of wild boar meat was brought to the table.

Three people sat down, and Ling Feng grabbed a cup and poured a drink for each of them.

Mo Jiaolan glanced at it and immediately froze, because the wine was not only clinging to the cup but also had a viscous feel, so she quickly asked, "What kind of wine is this?"

"It’s stock that survived a disaster twenty years ago. It was a good wine at that time, and after being stored for so long, it should taste even better," Ling Feng said with a smile.

Mo Jiaolan lifted the cup to her nose and sniffed, a gleam of appreciation in her eyes. "You’re right, it’s truly an aged fine wine, much better than those mixed with essence!"

Ling Feng was somewhat surprised, "You haven’t even tasted it, you know just by smelling?"

Chen Yuhe pouted, "Didn’t you know? My sister is a wine taster, a high-level one; what wine hasn’t she tasted?"

"I see, that’s good. Otherwise, bringing back those wines that cost ten or twenty yuan would have been a bit inconsiderate of me," Ling Feng said with a laugh.

Mo Jiaolan gave him a glance but said nothing, carefully sipped a small amount from her cup, and then praised, "Good wine!"

Her comment made Chen Yuhe unable to resist trying a sip, and afterward, she exclaimed with a pleased expression, "So fragrant!"

Ling Feng thought to himself, could it really be that miraculous? So he too took a small sip, feeling a line of fire travel from his throat to his stomach. However, it wasn’t uncomfortable; soon after, a rich and mellow fragrance began to permeate between his lips, indeed very nice!

"Good wine, good meat, let’s drink up tonight!" Ling Feng said with a satisfied smile.

The dinner lasted until nine o’clock in the evening; they finished off the wild boar meat, and not a drop was left from the two bottles of wine!

The previous plan to go to town to deliver pork was now impossible because everyone had drunk too much.

So Ling Feng could only pack up everything and then take it to Old Zhang’s house.

When he knocked on the door and saw Old Zhang’s flushed face, Ling Feng laughed, "You didn’t drink less, did you?"

"Aren’t you the same? Your face is as red as a monkey’s butt!" said Old Zhang with a bleary-eyed look.

"Alright, no more chit-chat. So, is your freezer empty?" Ling Feng asked.

"Freezer? It’s full of ice cream," Old Zhang said.

"I’ll buy all the ice cream, so hurry up and make space; I need to put meat in there."

"That would be a waste. Better to take it to Wang Yan’s place, they have a freezer too!" Old Zhang burped and said.

Ling Feng was startled, remembering he had seen her when distributing the wild boar meat, but this time she hadn’t said a word, just took the meat and left in a hurry.

"That works, I’ll go check it out. If her freezer is also full, I’ll come back to you!"

Ling Feng staggered away from the grocery store and turned towards Wang Yan’s house.

It was already dark, and many homes in the village had turned off their lights for the night. When Ling Feng arrived at Wang Yan’s doorstep and saw the light still on inside, he called out loudly, "Auntie, are you asleep yet?"

A moment later, Wang Yan came out, wrapped in a jacket, to the gate to see him, "You little rascal, have you been drinking? What are you yelling about in the middle of the night?"

"Auntie, I heard you have a freezer. Can I store this meat at your place for the night?" Ling Feng asked with a smile.

Wang Yan looked down, nodded, and said, "It should fit, give it to me."

"No, it’s too heavy; I’ll bring it inside for you!" Ling Feng said.

Wang Yan, smelling the strong scent of alcohol, knew the boy had drunk too much and hesitated, but still said, "Then come in!"

After opening the door, she whispered a complaint, "You damned boy, shouting so loud the neighbors heard you, how annoying!"
