The Happy Farmer Wanderer-Chapter 161 Han Mei’s Worries and Threats_1
After coming out of the hospital, Li Qing gave Gao Li a call.
The guy said he was still at the building materials market and asked Li Qing to wait a bit longer, or else to come find him at the market.
Li Qing thought about it and, having nothing else to do at the moment, took a bus to the building materials market.
"Qingzi."
As soon as Li Qing got off the bus, he saw Gao Li directing several people to move things onto a double cab.
Gao Li, with his sharp eyes, spotted Li Qing at once and ran over.
"Qingzi, these bastards are so unscrupulous. Just because they have a few big orders in front of us, they deliberately pushed ours back. If I hadn’t come over today, we probably would have had to wait for several more days," Gao Li cursed indignantly.
"After I argued with them, they knocked off two hundred bucks and agreed to deliver for free!"
Seeing Gao Li’s self-congratulatory manner, Li Qing gave a reassuring smile and said, "Brother Gao, we would have had to wait several more days if it weren’t for you. Now we have more and more Wenguan Leaves, and without a few more racks, there’s simply no place to dry them."
This made Gao Li somewhat embarrassed, and he laughed heartily, "Qingzi, I’m earning your money, after all. If I didn’t do anything, how could that be justified!"
"But I still have to thank you, Brother Gao," Li Qing said with a smile.
"Ah, it’s the least I could do, the least. Qingzi, you rest here, I’ll go load up the truck!" Gao Li was truly embarrassed this time.
Though Li Qing’s injuries had mostly healed, heavy work still had some impact on him, so he comfortably sat aside and rested. Once the truck was loaded, he followed it back to the village.
After entering the village, they encountered many villagers along the way.
In the past, they used to wait for Li Qing to greet them due to differences in seniority. Now, they warmly greeted him from a distance.
This scene left Li Qing feeling gratified, but also somewhat awkward.
Indeed, people are so pragmatic.
When he got home, Han Mei, Tian Yue’e, and Yang Xuelan were still busy in the yard outside.
Seeing Li Qing’s return, they all warmly gathered around and helped him set up the racks.
Li Qing paid the remaining balance to the furniture store’s deliverymen and just as he was sending them off, Han Mei suddenly approached with a grim expression, "Qingzi, what’s the deal with Kong Zhenggang?" 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
Li Qing glanced at Gao Li, who was sticking close to Yang Xuelan not far away, and sighed in frustration.
This guy just couldn’t handle praise.
There was no need for any doubt; Gao Li must have blabbed about it.
Li Qing had been worried Han Mei would be restless once she knew, and sure enough, he hadn’t been able to prevent it.
"Sister-in-law, this was really just an accident," Li Qing said helplessly.
"How could it be an accident? Gao Li already told me, when did you get involved with Kong Zhenggang?" Han Mei demanded.
Li Qing hung his head and began to explain everything to Han Mei from the beginning.
"It’s about the Wenguan Leaves from Sifang Village?" Han Mei asked in surprise.
She hadn’t expected that in the end, the root of the problem would trace back to her.
This made Han Mei feel a wave of guilt, "I shouldn’t have introduced you to the business in Sifang Village!"
"How are we going to handle this now?"
"Old Kong the Third is a complete villain in Sanhe Town. Compared to him, Hu Youyu is nothing," she said.
Seeing Han Mei looking upset, Li Qing spoke softly, "Sister-in-law, how could this be your fault?"
"In business, we come into contact with all sorts of people. Who could have anticipated something like this happening?"
"Now the police station is keeping an eye on it, and Secretary Zhou has also intervened. There shouldn’t be any more trouble."
In order not to worry Han Mei further, Li Qing deliberately concealed the matter with Lü Zong.
Actually, he was most looking forward to Lü Zong taking action.
As long as nothing bigger was poked out, perhaps Lü Zong’s involvement could completely resolve the matter.
"It’s just the police station and Secretary Zhou stepping in, otherwise, I would persuade you to put aside whatever you’re dealing with and get away immediately," Han Mei said with a worried face, "We’ve heard about so many things Old Kong the Third has done; getting on the bad side of such a vicious dog means if we can’t kill it, we have to hide from it."
Li Qing gently hugged Han Mei, "Sister-in-law, don’t worry too much, I’ll adapt to the situation."
"...Mhm." Han Mei’s cheeks quietly filled with a blush as she said sternly, "Also, you can’t keep things from me next time. If Gao Li hadn’t told me today, were you planning not to tell me at all?"
Li Qing touched his nose and sheepishly said, "I didn’t want to make you worry, sister-in-law!"
"If you have such worries in the future, you can go sleep with a log; don’t even think about taking any advantage of me. And I won’t let Tian Yue’e help you either," Han Mei said with a stern face, her threats severe.
Her words held an unusually effective deterrent for Li Qing.
With a mournful face, he almost swore, very seriously, "I definitely won’t."
It seemed he really couldn’t keep things from Han Mei anymore.
Others might just say such things, but Han Mei was someone who’d actually do them.
Perhaps not for long, but definitely effective for a while.
"Go take a rest; I’ll clean up after dinner!" Han Mei glared at Li Qing irritably and swung her hips as she walked into the courtyard.
Li Qing wiped the cold sweat off his forehead. Damn Gao Li, nearly ruining his happiness for the rest of his life.
After dinner, both Han Mei and Tian Yue’e said they were too tired and wanted to go to bed early.
In the blink of an eye, the once lively courtyard was left with only Li Qing as a solitary figure.
He brewed himself a cup of hot tea, picked up a small stool, and sat in the yard, enjoying the cool breeze and watching the stars.
The nights in summer arrived late, and it wasn’t until past eight that the sky turned completely dark.
But time passed quickly, and before he knew it, it was nearing eleven or twelve o’clock.
The night was tranquil, and after a day full of events, Li Qing felt extraordinarily peaceful at this moment.
"Mmm, mmm... ah... mm."
From next door, the sounds of moaning drifted over.
Yang Xuelan seemed to be somewhat out of sorts today, her cries clearly perfunctory.
Yet, her voice still set Li Qing on edge, making him uncomfortable.
"Annoying!"
He muttered to himself, pushed down the small tent that was slightly raised, and took his stool into the bedroom.
Maybe it was better to just go to sleep early.
Just as Li Qing had taken off his clothes and lay down under the covers, his phone suddenly rang.
He picked it up and saw it was from Xu Keqing.
"They’re raising hell next door and your call comes in; could it be, Doctor Xu, that you’ve heard the cry of my heart from so far away?" Li Qing teased.
Xu Keqing giggled, "You can’t touch me over the phone, you’ll still have to suffer, maybe even more so. How about I moan for you to listen to? Mmm... ahhh."
Holy shit! Li Qing instantly regretted the joke.
Xu Keqing’s voice was naturally sweet, and her moans were seductive and alluring, almost killing him on the spot.
