Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Both Arrested, Rescue at Night

"Wind Blade!"

Allen didn’t dodge. A sharp wind blade whistled toward the burly man.

Boom!

Power surged, and wild winds raged. Both of them were blasted backward.

"Stage 4 peak!" Allen frowned as he realized the man’s strength. Even though he was at Stage 4 peak, he was a Rare Bright Knight class, making him even stronger than the scarred man.

"Form up," the burly man said coldly, though he was also shocked by Allen’s power. He quickly swung himself back onto his horse.

Clatter... clatter...

The sound of hooves echoed as dozens of Bright Knights surrounded Allen and Lilia. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

"Hmph, think you can stop us with just you two?"

Allen said with a grim expression. Flames surged around him, and two massive fireballs formed. He hurled them violently at the group.

"Holy light surrounds them! Kill the villains!"

A chorus of shouts rose. The men raised their silver spears high. Sacred light flickered, interweaving to form a giant net.

Boom, boom...

The fireballs exploded, sending flames flying everywhere. But the holy light grew even brighter, hardening to block Allen’s Forbidden Spell attack.

Immediately, the giant net of holy light plunged down.

"How is this possible?" Allen panicked. He never expected that a group of Stage 3 Bright Knights could block a Forbidden Spell.

"Wind Blade!"

Allen gritted his teeth. Two wind blades formed before him and shot out, trying to tear through the net.

"Hmph, you’re overestimating yourself!" The burly man sneered. He tossed his silver spear, which turned into a flash of cold light. It pierced straight through the net, aiming directly for Allen.

Slash...

Blood splattered. Allen was thrown backward, his shoulder pierced, pinned to the ground by the spear.

Meanwhile, the two wind blades were blocked by the holy net, turning into a gust of wind that slowly dissipated.

"Allen!"

Lilia panicked. She rushed over, trying to pull the spear out so they could escape.

But the moment her hands touched the spear, a searing, burning pain shot through her. She immediately let go. Inside her body, the power that had been suppressed just moments ago began to rage once more.

Allen sensed something was wrong. He sliced his palm again and pressed it tightly over Lilia’s mouth, whispering urgently, "Don’t show yourself. That man clearly recognizes who you are. They won’t dare harm you."

Lilia forced herself to calm the raging power inside her and nodded slightly.

Just then, the burly man walked over slowly. With a sharp tug, he pulled the spear from Allen’s shoulder.

Blood splattered everywhere. Allen grimaced in pain.

"Hmph!" The burly man sneered disdainfully. "You should be thankful for the mercy of the Light Pope. Otherwise, a villain like you would have died instantly!"

"Heh, villain?" Allen let out a cold laugh. "You probably know the underground casino operated by the Butcher shop, right? That guy behind the scenes has done so many dirty things, and now I’m the criminal?"

"Did you slaughter so many people and still think you’re the good guy?" the burly man shot back, ignoring Allen’s words. "Take them away and hand them over to the Priest."

Four knights stepped forward, pinning Allen and Lilia down, and dragged them back toward the Church of Light.

...

In the darkness, a small figure emerged. Watching the Knights of Light leave, she murmured to herself, "What a hassle. I came to ask for help, but now I have to save you instead."

She leaped lightly, landing on a nearby roof. She scanned the area, her eyes sharp.

"The City Lord’s Mansion should be in that direction."

She looked toward the mansion, four or five streets away, several kilometers off. Even in the pitch-black night, her vision was perfectly clear; the darkness affected her not at all.

In a series of quick blurs, she moved with incredible speed, heading straight for the City Lord’s Mansion.

"Who goes there! Stop!"

As soon as she appeared at the mansion’s gate, a group of soldiers blocked her path.

Keeping her head down, the woman reached into her waist pouch and pulled out a thin jade leaf. She handed it to the soldier and said, "I’m here to see Simon. Please let him know an old friend is visiting."

"Simon?" The soldier took the jade leaf, looked at it curiously, and hesitated for a moment. "Wait here for a moment."

After giving a few quick orders to another soldier, the man turned and sprinted toward the City Lord’s Mansion.

Moments later, Simon appeared, trailing behind the soldier.

"Your Highness, it really is you!"

Simon recognized the woman instantly and rushed forward, bowing deeply.

"Simon, no need for formalities," Annie said quickly, stopping him.

She was indeed Princess Annie, the Elf Saint wanted by the Assassin Guild.

Simon nodded, waved away the others, and gestured for her to speak. Leaning in, he asked softly, "Your Highness, I just heard you’ve been put on the bounty list. Did the Elves do something else wrong?"

Annie stood outside the City Lord’s Mansion; she didn’t step inside. "My own troubles can wait. I’m here about something else. Miss Lilia and a human have been captured by the Church of Light."

"What?" Simon gasped, his face filled with worry.

"Lord, I’ll go find the City Lord!" The soldier realized the gravity of the situation and quickly ran off.

Simon didn’t stop him. Instead, he hurried to ask, "What exactly happened?"

Annie briefly explained how Allen and Lilia had taken down the underground casino.

"The Butcher’s underground casino?" Simon frowned. He and Lucas had already planned to shut it down, but they had hesitated due to Kyle’s status. He never expected those two kids to beat them to it.

"What about the Shadow Guard? Weren’t they supposed to protect Miss Lilia?" Simon suddenly remembered them. Before, City Lord Lucas had ordered them to protect Lilia from the shadows.

In the darkness, a figure suddenly materialized, kneeling respectfully. "My Lord, it was my fault. I thought Miss Lilia would be safe after entering the city, so I let my men leave. I accept whatever punishment you deem fit."

"Hmph, this is a one-time warning. If it happens again, I won’t let it slide!" Simon growled. He hadn’t expected trouble to erupt in Blackspire, especially not with the Knights of Light appearing so quickly, as if they were planning it all along.

At that moment, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed.

"Simon, I don’t want to reveal my identity yet. If something comes up, go find me at the Assassin Guild," Annie said quickly. Before Simon could respond, she vanished into the night.

"Simon, I heard Lilia is in trouble?" Lucas’s voice rang out as he rushed in.

Simon nodded and quickly relayed what Annie had told him.

"Lilia’s identity is out?" Lucas’s face went cold, a killing intent swirling in his eyes.

"Probably not yet," Simon said hurriedly, stepping in to stop him. "If her identity had been exposed, the Church of Light would have already attacked. But still, inside their walls, it’s only a matter of time before she gets caught."

"Go get her back," Lucas ordered coldly. He turned to the nearby Shadow Guard. "Raven, order the Shadow Guards to quietly surround the Church of Light. If anyone tries to slip away, don’t let them."

"Yes!" Raven answered, then vanished.

Lucas and Simon immediately headed for the Church of Light.

...

Meanwhile, Allen and Lilia were locked deep in the dungeon of the Church of Light.

The burly man entered the church and reported the situation to the Priest.

"What? You’re saying the other one is Lucas’s daughter, Lilia?" The Priest gasped, his brows knitting together in shock.

Kyle was surprised too. No wonder he had felt that familiar energy from the human; he was the City Lord’s daughter.

"This is a good thing," Kyle murmured, stroking his chin with a mischievous look. "Priest, aren’t we trying to take down Lucas? Now that his daughter is in our hands, we can use her as leverage."

The Priest glared coldly at him, knowing the man was trying to drag him into this mess.

Kyle had no desire to clash directly with Lucas, and neither did the Priest.

The Priest shook his head. "No. We can get away with small tricks in the shadows, but if we tear things open with Lucas, it won’t end well for us."

Kyle sneered. He was determined to drag the Priest into this regardless. "Either way, Lilia is in our hands now. We can’t just let her go easily."

"My Lord!"

Suddenly, a clergyman ran in, looking panicked. "City Lord Lucas is here to see you!"

The Priest felt a massive headache coming on. He shot a furious glare at the burly man beside him.

You recognized Lilia, so why not pretend to let her go? Now look where we are—Lucas is standing right in front of us.

"Hmph, this guy is well-informed. We just caught them, and he’s already here," Kyle laughed coldly. He looked at the Priest. "Should I step out for a moment?"

"No need," the Priest replied sharply. He also wanted to implicate Kyle. Taking a deep breath, he said, "Please, have City Lord Lucas come in."

"Sir," the subordinate answered respectfully and hurried out. A moment later, he led in Lucas and Simon, both looking cold and grim.
