The Heavenly Dao System-Chapter 117: Half Eliminated
Lin Loi’s descriptions of the contestants having to face more difficulty than others as evil caused Song Jing to ponder silently.
Was she evil?
No, but she couldn’t say she was completely righteous either.
As an 8th rank alchemist, it would be a lie that she didn’t know some of the alchemists were greedy or lustful.
However, most of them still treated alchemy with respect.
Moreover, it was a cultivation world, so arrogance and bullying were very common.
She herself had bullied her own clan who treated her like dirt when she got the leverage to do so as well. Thus, she never really cared about their characters as long as they respected alchemy and the seniors.
The seniors naturally referred to those in a higher rank in alchemy.
For example, a 4th rank alchemist must respect a 5th rank alchemist even if the latter is younger than the former.
"Little Loi, is this really considered fair?" Song Jing had no choice but to ask the question. "Just because one of the contestants had a bad character, they had to face the heat of the flame more intensely than others."
Usually, Lin Loi would side with her and understand where she was coming from. After all, there was never a complete definition of bad and good in the world.
But now that she had interacted with Ye Ming, she realized his definition of bad was something else.
"Sister Jing has mistaken my words." She said.
"What did I mistake?"
"Senior Dao’s definition of bad is based on his preferences. In other words, he doesn’t necessarily see people killing someone as bad or evil. All he perceived was whether he would involve himself in the matter or not."
Song Jing furrowed her brows and frowned. Such an explanation was actually making her more confused and lost.
To be honest, Lin Loi also found herself to be at a loss when pondering Ye Ming’s actions and perceptions of the world.
"Forget it. I have enough headache as it is already." Song Jing shook her head. She had decided to become part of the audience and just watched the competition without trying to interfere or infer anything.
With that thought in mind, she returned her focus to the projection screen.
Soon, half an hour went by, and from the initial 367 contestants, only 120 contestants remained.
More than half of the contestants were eliminated without being able to demonstrate their alchemy skills.
This was definitely an unprecedented in all alchemy competition in the Tianwu World.
In the blink of an eye, the remaining 120 contestants were teleported to the open stage. Their clothes were drenched in sweat and their eyes were hazy.
One could tell that the "Hell environment" was really not something anyone could endure.
Before anyone could even react to the scene, Ye Ming emerged on the stage and snapped his finger.
Soon, some people in the audience noticed their clothes were being burned.
"Ahh, what’s going on?"
"Why are my clothes being burned?"
"Where are the guards? We’re being attacked!"
Those who were targeted all shrieked in fear and cried for help. None of them anticipated being attacked in a stadium organized by the city lord.
"Stop screaming and get your asses out of the stadium." Ye Ming snorted loudly and glared at them.
"Those who got targeted are those who attempted to help the contestant cheat. Also, some of them were even leering at the few female contestants’ drenched clothes with techniques. Do you have any shame?"
Upon being called out, some of them tried to argue and called Ye Ming a liar.
Unfortunately, no matter what they said, Lin Loi had already signaled for the city guards to kick those people out.
Based on Lin Loi’s swift action in supporting Ye Ming’s claim without even questioning, many seemed to have understood that there was indeed a special about Ye Ming.
Once this small incident was resolved, the contestants all managed to take a breather and regain some clarity in their eyes.
Just when the crowd thought there would be a break time, Ye Ming’s next announcement took them by surprise.
"Alright, let’s not delay." He clapped his hands. In the blink of an eye, each of the contestants had a bunch of herbs appearing in front of them.
Additionally, there were employees carrying a mini table to the open stage for the contestants to use. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
As the contestants glanced at their respective tables in a daze, Ye Ming proceeded to explain the rules.
"Once again, the time limit would be half an hour. All the contestants have to identify the herbs and list 3 possible usages of the herbs. There is a total of 100 herbs, so if anyone fails to identify at least 70 herbs, they will fail. Incorrectly identifying would also result in deduction points by 2."
"What, but we barely even get any rest?"
"How can we identify them when we are still exhausted from the first round?"
"This isn’t even humane!"
Without any surprises, some of the contestants already raised their voices to complain.
In a large-scale competition such as this, there should have been a break time to allow the contestants to rest for a moment to regain their stamina.
Yet Ye Ming outright denied their rights and even motioned for the second round to begin.
Of course, if the first round was relatively easy, then one could still understand why they would proceed to the second round without rest.
However, that was not the case here.
Nearly all contestants were pushed to the limit and barely passed the first round.
Alas, these contestants clearly underestimated Ye Ming’s authority once again.
"Sigh, why do people keep complaining when it’s a competition?" Ye Ming rolled his eyes.
He swiftly pointed at the few who voiced their complaints and directly said, "All of you are eliminated. You may exit the stage and go wherever you prefer. I have no interest in the eliminated contestants."
"..."
Nearly all the audience, including those at the high platform were dumbfounded by Ye Ming’s action.
Another elimination without the round commencing?
Was this going to become the norm?
