Chapter 53: Chapter 53

A R I A N A

I stirred as my eyes split open, the space next to me in the bed was empty causing me to open my eyes fully my eyes falling on a small note on Dante’s pillow.

I picked it up his handwriting was neat and strong.

"I had to leave early for a meeting I am sorry I could not wake you, I will see you at the office today. Do not be late. -D"

I read the note two times.

He was expecting me to report to work today.

At his company and as his new Head of Financial Strategy we’ll that’s if I pass the interview.

A part of me felt a little happy he believed in me, he thought I was smart enough for the job.

But a bigger part of me felt sick with guilt.

I was going to use this job to betray him and it made me feel, I mean I was going to dig through his private papers and somehow find a a way to ruin him which I one it’s going to me so hard but I had to find a way.

I sat up in bed, holding the note my stomach felt tight.

I had to do this, for Asher I repeated it in my head like a prayer.

After what seemed like forever I finally got myself up and headed for a shower.

I got dressed in one of the professional outfits Dante’s stylist had designed, I never thought I’d be using theses clothes but here I was.

I looked at myself in the mirror trying to smile, but it looked fake.

I went downstairs meeting Esmeralda at the kitchen.

"Good morning, Mrs. Russo! Mr. Russo said you are starting at the company today! How exciting!"

I forced another smile. "Yes. Very exciting."

"Luca would be driving you, Mr Russo had assigned him as your new driver" she informs.

I forced a smile nodding, "Alright then, let me get going"

"Aren’t you gonna stay for breakfast?" She asked.

I looked at my wristwatch. "I’m sorry I can’t, I’m running late and I really need to leave now so bye" I say rushing out with light waiting for a response.

The driver was already waiting outside as I got there.

The car ride to Russo Corp felt long my stomach twisting hoping I don’t fuck this up if I did, I wouldn’t like the consequences that would come after.

All I could think about for the rest of the ride was what I had to do.

The car stopped in front of the tall, shiny building.

My heart began to pound.

I walked inside.

The same receptionist who had been rude to me before now smiled brightly.

"Good morning, Mrs. Russo! Welcome! Mr. Russo is expecting you his office is on the top floor the elevator is right over there."

Everyone was so nice now.

They probably all know who I was.

I took the elevator up, my hands feeling sweating.

The doors opened to the top floor It was quiet and fancy.

A man in a suit was waiting for me.

"Mrs. Russo, right this way. Mr. Russo is in a meeting, but he asked me to show you to your new office."

He led me down a hall to a big, beautiful office with huge windows there was a shiny desk and a comfortable chair.

"Uh sorry... will I be getting interviewed?" I asked.

He smile, "No Mrs Russo... Mr Russo had already taken care of that" he informs.

"Oh"

"Will that be all?" He asks.

I let out a sigh before nodding, "Yes"

"Very well then, I’ll be a call away if you need anything" he says to which I nod before he left.

On the desk was a stack of files and then a note on top said "For you to look at. -D"

I sat down in the chair.

It felt too big for me.

I looked at the files.

These were business papers thing my father wanted, now that I’m hired I was going to be dealing with a lot of them, I just needed to find a more private one.

I reached out a trembling hand and opened the first file.

I was really going to do it, I was going to betray the man who trusted me or so I thought.

The guilt was a heavy rock in my stomach but I shaked the thought away and picked up the papers and got to work

For Asher.

It was all for Asher.

My head hurt from looking at numbers and contracts for hours, my eyes were beging to feel tired.

"Ugh" I growled.

Maybe it’s cause I haven’t done this for a while, it felt new, the stress.

A knock snapped me out of my train of thoughts making me seat properly proceeding to the paperwork I was working on.

"Come in," I said, not looking up from the paper I was reading.

The door opened.

"So you are the new wife," she said, her voice mean. She looked me up and down slowly. "I do not see what is so special about you."

I looked up meeting a blonde hair woman that

wore a tight dress that hung all her curves almost like she was here for another purpose and not work.

She looked at me with a disgusting look on her face like I was something dirty she had stepped on.

I just stared at her I did not know who she was and I did not understand why she was being so rude.

"You do not deserve him," she hissed, stepping closer to my desk. "Dante Russo is way beyond your league a little nobody like you could never be good enough for him."

She leaned forward, her hands on my desk. "And if you think you can just steal him away from me that easily, you are bluffing he will get tired of you soon then he will come back to me."

I still did not say anything.

I was too surprised and confused.

Who was this woman? Did she used to be with Dante?

I chose to ignore her and looked back down at my papers, pretending to read as my hands shook a little.

The woman laughed a cold, nasty laugh. "Fine. Ignore me but remember what I said."

She turned to walk away, but then she stopped at the door.

"Oh," she said, like she had just remembered something unimportant. "Dante is expecting you in his office. Now."

Then she walked out, shutting the door behind her with a loud click.

I sat at my desk for a minute, just breathing.
