Chapter 55: Chapter 55

A R I A N A

I walked back to my office, my mind still spinning from the tingling a from Dante’s kiss my hand still felt warm where he had held it so tightly.

I sat down at my desk and tried to focus on the papers but it was hard my thoughts were everywhere.

Then, my office door opened without a knock.

I looked up, expecting maybe Dante’s secretary or another employee.

But it was not.

It was Angelo.

My heart jumped into my throat.

What was he doing here? How did he get into the building?

He walked into my office and closed the door behind him he leaned against it, looking at me with a mean smile.

"Hello, Ariana," he said. "Or should I call you Mrs. Russo?"

I stood up from my chair, my hands shaking. "What are you doing here, Angelo? You need to leave... now."

He ignored me.

He walked slowly toward my desk he looked around my big, fancy office.

"Look at you," he said, his voice full of mockery. "In your big office playing house with my uncle. Do you really think you belong here?"

I felt anger push aside some of my fear. "Get out, Angelo you are not suppose to be here this was never part of the deal" I say my lips quivering in fear.

He reached my desk and leaned across it, he reached out his hand like he was going to touch my face.

I slapped his hand away. "Do not touch me!"

He laughed, a cold, ugly sound. "You need to be careful, Ariana you’re playing a very dangerous game lying to a man like Dante Russo... it will not end well for you but then again, I want to see you crumble Ariana while I prosper... after getting me those papers, I’d finally get to where I’ve always dreamed off, where I truly belong and then you’d be at my mercy"

He moved around the desk, coming closer to me I stepped back, but I hit the wall refusing to say a word to him as he was of no use.

They way he put this it was almost like they weren’t the ones that put me up to this.

"I miss the taste of your lips," he whispered, his face too close to mine. "I wonder if they still taste the same."

Before I could react, he grabbed my face and crushed his lips against mine.

It was nothing like Dante’s kiss It was harsh and forced and disgusting

I fought against him.

I pushed at his chest, but he was too strong.

So I did the only thing I could think of trying to break free, i bit his lip hard.

Angelo yelled in pain and stumbled back from me.

He put his hand to his mouth, he pulled it away, there was blood on his fingers.

"You bitch!" he snarled, his eyes blazing with anger.

"Get away from me!" I screamed, my whole body trembling. "If you ever touch me again, I will tell Dante everything!"

He wiped the blood from his lip, glaring at me. "You would not dare you know what will happen to your precious son if you do."

The threat hung in the air between us.

The reminder of why I was here why I was doing this.

I felt all the fight go out of me.

He was right.

I was trapped.

He had the upper hand.

"Just leave," I whispered, my voice breaking. "Please, just leave."

Angelo looked at me for a long moment, his eyes cold then he turned and made his way out. Stopping at the door.

"Make things quicker, I can’t wait to be the new CEO of Russo Corp and just maybe I may consider taking you back" he winked before walking out.

I slid down the wall to the floor, shaking as I burst into tears I was in way over my head.

I hated that I was being used and I couldn’t do anything about it.

After what seemed like forever I finally mustered the remaining courage left and proceeded to do the remaining work left.

My stomach growled remembering I didn’t even have breakfast, I glance at the clock, It was time for lunch.

I walked out and headed toward the elevator The hallway was busy with people going to lunch.

I kept my head down, not really wanting to talk to anyone.

Suddenly, I bumped into someone, a young woman carrying a stack of files.

"Oh! I am so sorry!" I said quickly, helping her pick up the papers she had dropped.

"No, it is my fault! I was not looking where I was—" The woman stopped talking and looked up at me her eyes went wide. "Oh my! You are Mrs. Russo!"

She looked nervous now. "I am so sorry for bumping into you! Please forgive me!"

I smiled, trying to make her feel better. "It is okay, really, It was an accident."

She kept staring at me. "You are even more beautiful in person," she blurted out, then blushed bright red. "I am sorry! That was rude!"

I laughed a little. "It is okay. Thank you."

She was still holding her files, looking flustered. "I am such a mess I am always dropping things. I am really sorry ."

She kept talking, a nervous rant about her job and how she was always making mistakes It was actually kind of funny.

"Are you going to lunch?" I asked her.

She nodded. "Yes! To the cafeteria."

"Me too," I said. "Would you like to walk together?"

Her eyes lit up. "Really? Yes! I would love that!"

We walked to the elevator together.

She talked the whole time, her name was Chloe.

She worked in the marketing department on the third floor she had been at Russo Corp for two years.

We got our food from the cafeteria and found a small table in the corner.

We talked for the rest of the lunch hour, it was nice and normal.

It was the first friendly conversation I had in a long time and it made me realize how lonely I had been.

When lunch was over, Chloe hugged me. "Thank you for eating with me, Mrs. Russo."

"Please, call me Ariana."

She beamed. "Okay, Ariana. See you around!"

I watched her walk away, feeling a little bit lighter.
