Chapter 70: Chapter 70

A R I A N A

The rest of our days in Italy were perfect exquisite if I must say, Dante made sure of it, he kepy work aside and spent every minute with me.

We saw beautiful art, ate delicious food, walked through old streets holding hands.

He made me laugh and made me feel safe all the time. Dante’s presence made me forget about all my problems.

It’s like I don’t have any worries but then again when reality hits me, I remeber that I have few days left to get my father those papers.

Our flight is later in the evening so we were currently heading down to the to have lunch in the hotel restaurant before our flight.

I was wearing a pretty dress Dante bought me, he still hasn’t asked for his card back to which I am grateful for cause I still haven’t found it, I had asked the chauffeur that took me to the mall the other time and he didn’t find it.

We were walking to our table when Dante’s phone rang snapping me out of my train of thoughts, he looked at it and his face got serious.

"I am sorry, my love," he said, kissing my cheek. "I have to take this It is important... You go ahead and order for me I will be quick."

I nodded. "Okay."

I sat down at our table by the window.

A waiter brought me a menu I looked at it, but I was not really seeing the words.

I was thinking about how I would get to the papers without Dante knowing, I wasn’t sure where he kept it but he did mention having all his important files in his home office.

The waiter came back. "Are you ready to order Mrs Russo?"

I looked at Dante’s empty chair I hoped his call would not take long.

"Yes," I said, giving the waiter a small smile. "I will order for both of us."

I was looking at the menu, waiting for Dante to come back, when a woman walked up to our table It was Jessica, Dante’s assistant.

I fought the urge to roll my eyes forgetting that this was a business trip of course she’d tag along with Dante.

What does she want now?

She looked down at me with a nasty smile. "Looking for someone?" she asked. "Dante is a very busy man if you must know, he might be sparing you some time but it doesn’t mean anything"

I looked around, hoping to see Dante coming back but he was nowhere.

I didn’t want to create a scene with her, she was already getting on my nerve.

Jessica leaned closer. "You should know something Dante Russo is way above your league everyone knows it, your are nothing."

My face felt hot.

I tried to ignore her.

But she kept talking, her voice mean. "I know why you are really with him I know your daddy’s company has gone bankrupt and you are just a gold digger. You are using Dante for his money."

Her words felt like a slap even though part of it was true my father did want me to get money from Danteit still hurt because I loved Dante really loved him.

"You are wrong," I said, my voice shaking. "You do not know anything about me or my live life with my husband, you may work for him but it gives you no right to barge into our lives."

Jessica laughed a cold laugh. "I know everything and I will make sure Dante sees through your lies he will throw you out soon and you will see."

Anger, hot and sudden, shot through me I stood up so fast my chair scraped the floor.

Before I could even think, my hand flew out

SLAP!

The sound was loud in the restaurant my palm stung from hitting her cheek.

Jessica gasped, her hand flying to her face her eyes were wide with shock and anger.

Everyone in the restaurant was staring at us.

I was breathing hard.

I had never hit anyone before I was shocked at myself.

But I was not sorry she had called me a gold digger.

She had insulted my love for Dante and that was enough reason.

Jessica glared at me, her face red where I had hit her. "How dare you!" she hissed.

I was still shaking when I saw Dante walking back to the table his lips curved into a smile as he approached but soon his smile dropped as he saw my face.

Before I could say anything, Jessica ran to him bursting into loud, fake tears.

"Dante!" she cried, throwing herself against his chest. "She hit me! Your wife slapped me across the face!"

Dante looked shocked as he held her shoulders, trying to see her face. "What? Why would she do that?"

Jessica sobbed even louder. "I only told her that you were a busy man but you still make time for her cause you love her and she took offence and accused me of puting my nose into your marital business and she got so angry! She just slapped me!"

I felt sick watching her lie I felt even sicker watching Dante hold her.

A sharp, ugly feeling stabbed my heart.

Jealousy.

Dante looked at me, his face confused and disappointed. "Ariana? Is this true? Did you hit her?"

My heart hurt he believed her. "She said horrible things to me, Dante! She called me..." I paused finding it pointless to explain.

He believed her already

Jessica cried harder, shaking her head. "I never said that! Why would I say that? She is lying!"

Dante sighed, looking tired. He looked at me. "Ariana, just apologize please this is not the place for this."

I stared at him.

He wanted me to apologize? To her? After what she said?

"No," I said, my voice firm even though I was trembling. "I will not apologize to her."

I could not stand there anymore I turned and walked away from the table heading out with my eyes stinging.

Leaving Dante standing there with a crying Jessica still clinging to his chest.
